BREAKING NEWS: The Bad Boy of Baseball, Maddox Paige, is totally and utterly whipped. Okay, that might not be the headlines in the newspaper this morning, but it’s the reality of my current situation. It all started a month ago when I received a call from my best friend, Kinsley. She got a new job in Chicago and needed a place to stay. I’ve known the girl since I was five, what harm would it be … harm would it be to have her stay at my place for a while?
Ha! Total disaster.
Now instead of going out every night with my teammates, I’m couch surfing and sketching endless photos of my best friend . . . but that’s the least of my concerns.
The disaster, you ask? I’m rapidly falling head over cleats in love with my best friend, my roommate, and my number one fan.
And she has no idea . . .

I’ve read books by this author before and I always like her style of writing and this book really captures your attention and from the very first page this book will pull you in. It is a real friends to lovers romance and this a a real sport romance with a totally slow burn love.
Maddox is a guy that is a very well known man and everyone sees him as the totally bad boy of baseball and he totally loves this label. He is a very sexy confident guy that is never short of female company and woman are always throwing themselves at him which he also loves.
Maddox is falling in love with his best friend and now he doesn’t know what to do. Ever since he agreed to let her stay with him he has seen a new side to her and his feelings are growing stronger for her by the day.
Kinsley is his best friend and these two have known each other for years and she has just got a new job and is desperately in need of a place to stay and she ends up staying with Maddox. She has no idea that the feelings he has for her are so strong and are totally there growing more and more. She always puts him in his place and she also gets to see the caring side to him.
This author is fantastic at writing characters that the readers can really connect with and these two were awesome. Kinsley is a great, very likable and passionate and she is totally opposite to Maddox and these two are so cute together and I love how protective he is of her. This love that is growing between them both and is a real slow burn romance and they have awesome chemistry too, especially because they have known each other for so long and she gets to see the real him. The story completely flows and you cant get enough of reading this book it was so hard to put down as I wanted to see what was going to happen. I love books that have prologues and epilogues to as I always feel like they always add that some thing extra special to the story and you get to see where everyone ends up which I always love. This book is told from different points of view to which is great. Thank you to the author and the publishers for allowing me to read an early copy of this book. ARC provided in exchange for a complimentary honest voluntary review. This is an awesome romance book written by an awesome author and I highly recommend that everyone reads it.
OMG…. Kinsley and Maddox…. my heart is all I have to say. Childhood best friends. She’s the quirky animal loving vegan. He’s the pro baseball player. They’ve always been there for each other.
Kinsley gets a chance to take a job in Chicago and Maddox says, stay with me.
I love when they awkwardly start having feeing for each other. It is a rom and com and totally Meghan Quinn can gives us these crazy laughs that make us laugh and cry.
Love this:
“I spend a few nights with my best friend, a few consecutive conversations, and suddenly, I’m looking at him like a . . . like a . . . piece of tofu, freshly grilled with asparagus?” Oh Kinsley… I love her.
She has always been his rock- he’s gots childhood issues and they always been there for one another.
When they fall for each other, it’s beautiful. What challenges them and almost breaks them made me cry.
Maddox is amazing, he’s a man…. he messes up and what he does to get Kinsley back is sheer book perfection. It’s why I read romance.
Read this book to find out about Herman, Marcy, all the baseball guys and gals we love and how they take care of each other! I want Meaghan to write a book about all of them in retirement…. it would be amazing!!
This is definitely a top 2020 read for me!!
I’ll be the first to admit that I am not a baseball fan, but I sure am a fan of the Rebels!
Ms. Quinn brings the team back in this story of all-star pitcher Maddox and his life-long best friend Kinsley.
Kinsley has been Maddox’s best friend since they were five! That’s a long time and even when distance and life have separated them, they both are still are each other’s rock and safe place to fall.
Maddox’s image is the bad boy of baseball, but Kinsley knows his true self.
I was so invested in their relationship. The trepidation of the both of them wanting more, the desperation and feelings of vulnerability on both. To read Kinsely and Maddox navigate through their feelings was both beautiful and sometimes heartbreaking.
Now don’t be scared, there is also the fantastic humor and laugh out loud moments you come to expect from Ms. Quinn. You won’t be disappointed!
Now like all her other stories, this can totally be read as a stand-alone, but as a superfan, like I am, I have read them all and it was so much fun to “see” past characters make appearances and love the team family come together to help a fellow out when it’s needed.
Like I said at the beginning, I am not a baseball fan. However, Meghan Quinn has made me a Rebels fan for life!
This might be my favorite book in the series. Maddox is mine and I’m not afraid to fight for my man. I know for sure this was one hot book. This was by far the sexiest book Meghan Quinn has written. I mean I think I needed multiple fans from a certain kitchen scene. Wowza.
Maddox was the ultimate alpha male. Who doesn’t love a tatted bab boy with a sweet and soft side. I absolutely loved Maddox and want to just snuggle him hard.
But this book was more than the great chemistry and hot scenes. This was about two souls perfect together and finally given into the connection that was always there. It was about finding your person.
I loved everything about this book and I can’t stop raving about Maddox and Kinsley’s book. It was the perfect friends to lovers romance and one you will definitely want to read!
Another hit from Meghan. I was waiting *not so* patiently for Maddox’s book and he did not disappointed. Since Cory’s book, I knew he was more than the baseball bad boy who likes to fight and honor his team. And I love to read his story and the depth the author gave to it, a thing that while she did I other books, in this one made even more special.
Maddox went through a lot when younger, with his mom, his violent and drunk father and that crap brother. But he always one person in his corner, to hold his hand, to cheer him up, to sass him up, to protect and to love, that’s Kinsley, his girl best friend since they were 5. When she is offered a job in Chicago and nowhere to stay, Maddox jump in and offer his apartment.
It was so funny, good and heartwarming learning their friendship, their nicknames, how they are sassy and wit with each other, but also how supportive, protective and loving towards one another they are. What I loved the most was how they were changing their relation from friends to lovers, every little interaction, flirtation, it was so good. But let me tell… they were HOT together, OMG I was melting from the heating! I think this the steamiest book I’ve read from the author!
I also liked Kinsley a lot, she is so fierce, lovable, with a heart of gold and her love toward the animals was awesome. However, sometimes I was annoyed with her, being a vegan she was trying to change him a lot and clearly disrespecting his house rules, more then once and a lot of times without even asking him. Like, he needed to fit her world but she didn’t care to fit his, in his house.
But when their relationship spiral out control, I was glad he talked some things to her, but hell, he was rash in the rest of the 90% of the things he said. I liked how she knew her value and wouldn’t accept anything less, even if it hurts her emotionally. His groveling was epic!
I freaking loved the ending, everything was perfect and so deserving for both of them. I could read so much more from this couple, now my only hope is that we get a Lincoln book as soon as possible, because the guy is awesome, and I’m certain will see my boy Maddox.
Who would have ever thought all it would take to take down the bad boy of baseball would be his childhood best friend?
Maddox is known around the world as the Bad Boy of Baseball and he wears that badge proudly. He’s not afraid to throw punches to protect his team. He’s got a slew of willing females at his beck and call. That all changes when his best friend, Kinsley, calls to let him know she got a job in Chicago, the only hiccup, she needs a place to stay. Maddox has never been able to tell Kinsley no, so he offers for her to stay with him. When Kinsley arrives and flips his world upside down, he finds that the girl he thought was meant to only be his best friend is quickly turning into more. The only problem….Kinsley has no idea.
Meghan Quinn has done it again. Seriously, she has written such an amazing story for Maddox and Kinsley. We get to see a different side of Maddox in The Change Up than in previous books. He’s always been a mystery, and we get to see who Maddox Paige really is in this story. I also loved Kinsley and all of her quirks. She’s not afraid to tell Maddox what she thinks or put him in his place and I think that’s exactly what Maddox needed. I think with every book in this series, I fall deeper in love with all of the boys of baseball. We got to see more of Jason and Cory in this book and I freaking love their back and forth. This series continues to get better and better with each book that releases. Please keep the boys of baseball coming Meghan!!
Maddox Paige…….well, what a surprise he turned out to be!! He’s really close to knocking Jason off the top spot of my favorite baseball men from Meghan!
I loved seeing a different side of Maddox, instead of just his “bad boy” persona that the world has come to know. After his best friend Kinsley moves in with him, you could really start to see that softer side to him, that only she could bring out. They were complete opposites in almost every way possible (except for one….and ooh boy, did that make for some fun times!), and Kinsley with her quirkiness was super endearing, so it’s no wonder Maddox fell for her. And for as confident as a guy could be, he sure was nervous and unsure of how to make the move on Kinsley. Having to ask his teammates for advice was priceless! (Seriously, Cory, Jason…..and Linc had some amazing moments in this story! Jason, always the scene stealer. Bowling, anyone??)
I really couldn’t get enough of Maddox and Kinsley together, as that transition from friends to lovers was just so great. So when THAT moment of the story came……my heart was shattered, knowing everything that they had been through over the years. But, I trusted in Meghan to know that something amazing would come out of what happened and that everyone’s hearts would be whole by the end.
And the epilogues……..ahh, my heart is just so happy right now!
Whenever I think that Meghan Quinn has written the perfect book boyfriend, she surprises us with a new one who is incredibly sexy with his confident swagger, amazing tattoos, and most importantly, his caring personality. Maddox is a gifted athlete who owes his success to his best friend, Kinsley, who has always been his biggest fan. She was his safe haven when he was growing up and now he wants to be her port in the storm, while she starts her new life in Chicago. I love the devotion he has for Kinsley, because it is pure, beautiful and everlasting. Kinsley is an animal loving, carefree young woman, who adores Maddox and values their friendship more than anything. Kinsley arrived in Chicago like a fastball over home plate, with her vegan lifestyle and infectious smile. Maddox’s life changed that day for the better, because instead of calling Kinsley once a month, he could now talk to her every day, while gazing at her beautiful face. They were both scared of the romantic feelings they were having for each other now that they were living together, but they were too strong to ignore. Will togetherness result in sexy times for Maddox and Kinsley, or will something happen to tear apart their storybook romance?
*4,5 stars*
I’ve really enjoyed this series and couldn’t wait to read Maddox’ story and see if someone could tame this bad boy we’ve come to know. I hope we get some more in this series!
Kinsley is in a tough spot and needs a place to stay in Chicago; luckily Maddox is able to help her out and offers her to stay with him so she can settle in her new job. But he never thought that he would slowly fall in love with her. They’ve been best friends since they were kids and know everything there is to know about each other. Although Maddox has a big reputation, there’s so much more underneath the surface and his past seems to catch up with him in a way he never thought would happen. Kinsley always has stood by his side but slowly feelings are starting to show and both don’t really know what to do as they aren’t willing to risk their relationship but sometimes feelings are too strong to stay hidden… Will they take a chance to find love with each other?… Or will Maddox’ past stand in its way?…
SOOO MANY FEELS! The author did a great job on making me fall in love with these characters! They were just so likeable and I was cheering for them from the very beginning. What could go wrong with the bad boy baseball player and a vegan, animal and mother nature lover?
Meghan Quinn knocked it out of the park with this friends to lovers romance. What started off as a friend helping out a friend developed into more attraction, more touching. Then, THEN the waiting and anticipation for that first kiss! I just about died waiting! The author went above and beyond with the hotness in this book! But it worked so well with these characters because of their history and chemistry. We got the heat, we got the drama, we got the feels… It was a story I absolutely loved!
Maddox Paige-the bad boy of baseball. Tattoo covered, fight starting pitcher for the Chicago Rebels. He is everything you expect from a Rebel Baseball player. But what you don’t know is he has the softest kindest heart when it comes to his best friend Kinsley.
Kinsley-vegan, animal lover, doing her part to save the world. Maddox’s biggest cheerleader.
Maddox and Kinsley have been best friends since age 5. They grew up next door to each other and have always been each other’s soft place to land. So, when Kinsley is offered her dream job in Chicago, Maddox invites her to move in with him.
This was such a great story. It was a very well-done Friends to lovers romance. Quinn has a way of writing make leaders who should come off as super macho alphas to being theses truly sensitive caring creatures. Maddox has a lot of baggage from childhood and it is part of what causes him to go slowly into a relationship with Kinsley. He has so few people he trusts and he doesn’t want to do anything to ruin that. I loved getting small glimpses of characters from her other Rebel books.
If you are missing baseball there is just enough sports talk in this to help fill that void. This is a fun summer read, with just enough sexy to keep it steamy. The Characters do engage in a lot of internal dialogue it does cause a bit a lag in the movement of the story line. Overall, I would give this a 4/5 read. I am not overly sold on the bad boy with the big heart trope, but Quinn’s characters are well written and developed that it is very relatable.
Another book Meghan Quinn hit out of the park.
The epic hotness of this book is legitimately off the charts, Maddox and Kinsley were not ones to shy away from trying something new and that upped the “melt my panties” moments in this book.
It was clear with only a phone call that Maddox and Kinsley had chemistry and the moment they were physically together that chemistry grew that much more. Meghan Quinn’s ability to write dialogue is phenomenal, she can take the characters from awkward, funny, flirty to alpha hotness flawlessly making it so every conversation between the characters is entertaining and feels like you’re right there with them.
I fell in love with Maddox and Kinsley immediately and the harder they fell, the harder I fell. I shed more tears in this book than any of the previous, there were some heartbreaking situations that left me shattered right along with them. My heart hurt and my chest had a tightness in it for pages. This book was filled with the amazingly fun banter between the players that made me laugh but I also felt like this book hit a more emotional level too. A good mix of playful banter between friends, flirty and fun banter between Maddox and Kinsley, Maddox had the alpha possessive swoon factor, Kinsley was quirky and adorable, and a double dose of feels was the equation to my new favorite Rebel.
Maddox brought his A game to win Kinsley, nobody deserved a happily ever after more than Maddox Paige
Meghan Quinn just cannot do anything wrong when it comes to delivering a swoony, sexy, witty and full on entertaining sports romance. The Change Up gave me all the feels in full force. The smiles and full belly laughs. The melting my heart and panties kind of romance. With just the edge of angst and heartache.
Maddox Paige is the bad boy of Chicago Rebels. He is known for his hot attitude, tendency to lose temper and also his legendary skills in baseball field. But inside he is a big soft man. Who draws and sketches. Who is ready to do anything for his life long best friend Kinsley. Even letting her move into his private life and private apartment and allow her to turn his life upside down. Because his feelings for Kinsley are no longer in friendly territory. And Kinsley can no longer deny her feelings. But Maddox has baggages. And it will be a difficult journey.
What I love most about Meghan Quinn’s writing is it doesn’t feel like she is WRITING. Does that make sense? Her words are so organic and the flow is so smooth that I feel like I am sitting in the heads of her characters and getting the first row peek. Maddox is a complex guy yet I fell for him so easily. He is broken. He has more issues than I can count. He has trust issues and a tough exterior. But he is also the most loyal friend, most supportive team mates and most thoughtful best friend. Kinsley is an amazingly colourful character. I won’t deny she is a handful. I ( just like Maddox) sometimes felt overwhelmed with her no boundary, no filter and all in kind way of living. Vegan, environmental enthusiast, earth lover, animal whisperer- she has so many feathers in her crown. But her best asset is her bigger than ocean heart. She supported Maddox through some dark times and she is always there for him. To support him. To calm him down. They have this very special kind of chemistry. Best friends to lovers never felt this good! The slow burn, the heat build up, the heartbreaking angsty interlude, the sweet as hell happily ever after- everything made The Change Up an unputdownable read!
The Change Up by Meghan Quinn was an irresistible sports romance! The characters were so easy to fall in love with. The emotions warmed me from inside and also wrecked me in the best possible way!
Received ARC for honest review

I needed to collect my thoughts after finishing this epically beautiful story!
I also need a hug….the emotions this book drew out of me had me in a spin! One minute I was laughing, the next I had tears and I just couldn’t put it down!!
Maddox Paige is the man!!! High profile Pitcher who truly has a heart of gold! Kinsley has been his best friend since a young age! They are each other’s support system! She has a new job opportunity on the cards and when Maddox invites her to stay with him, neither is prepared for how they will cope!
This book was so incredibly beautiful that I don’t know what I say can do it justice!
The honesty and open friendship they have is just wonderful and I wondered whether being in such close proximity will cause feelings to come into play! They are the epitome of true friends!
And the steamy moments were off the charts sizzling that you very well may need a cold shower as well!!
What happens when you make assumptions?? When something happens and you just don’t know how to get through it! His teammates and their partners would be fantastic friends to have as well! Loved the comradery!
There is really nothing else to say other than you need to read it, devour it and be prepared to go on an amazing journey with these wonderful characters!!
This book left me speechless. Honestly.
Maddox Paige is the bad boy of baseball, but really he’s a big softie who likes to draw pictures of his best friend Kinsley and have solitude. Kinsley is an earth-loving-save-all-the-animals firecracker who doesn’t put up with Maddox’s crap. It starts all sweet and innocent and the BAM you get hit with a kitchen scene that is WOWZER! I had to read it twice just to make sure I read what I thought I read.
All of Meghans book put me in a trance where I started reading and got completely engulfed in the story an finally looked up from my kindle hours later and had no idea where I was. I loved seeing Cory and Jason and seeing more of Lincoln. I hope we get his story soon!
~Paige
This book hit my kindle right when I needed it….I’ve been curious about Maddox Paige since The Lineup….bad boy of course, but what was his story.
Well, here it is!!! When Maddox was first “introduced” to me, I did not care for him….he was a d^ck! However, you know that old adage “never judge a book by its cover”? Yup, that’s Maddox! Learning his story and meeting his best friend, Kinsley, made him so like-able!
Kinsley I just adored!! Her affinity to care for animals hit me right in my heart (I love animals!!). Maddox and Kinsley together……they just may be my fav MQ couple yet!!!
The Change Up is a best friends to lovers / baseball sports romance and I must say it’s my absolutely favorite book of this series!
This book is about Maddox Paige, he’s called the bad boy of Baseball with all those tattoos covering his body, but his best friend Kinsley knows Maddox since they were five and she knows he is not the bad boy everyone think he is. So when Kinsley got her dream job offer in Chicago he invited his best friend to stay with him at his place, because he has a big heart and will do everything for his best friend. But living together wasn’t as easy as he thought it would be…
Even if their characters are so different from each other the friendship between those two is special and their chemistry is off the charts!
The Change Up is definitely the hottest story I’ve ever read by Meghan so far. I had so many laughs while reading this book and it also has very emotional moments. I can’t express how much I loved this book! We also get to read a bit about Maddox team members which we know from previous books. And as you might know, reading books with dual POVs is my jam.
Meghan totally got me hooked and EVERYONE should read this book ASAP!
I got an ARC provided in exchange for a honest review.
Maddox Paige. The bad boy of baseball. Falling in love with his best friend Kinsley. This was hands down another epic story by Meghan Quinn. Already in the first chapters I was laughing so hard, tears were streaming down my face! Meghan Quinn hit a homerun with their banter going back and force! It was awesome to see how they slowly realized their feelings for each other and how good he was to her.
“’ , .”
But then. The unspeakable thing happened and I wanted to throw my kindle away. I yelled at it. Meghan Quinn is an author who brings out all these feelings in me!!! Every. Single. Time.
So let’s talk about the rest of this book. It was hot. Holy hot. Funny. Very much so. Swoony. Hell yes. Sexy. Double yes to that. Devastating. Uhm yeah!!!

. . ! ? !
Maddox is known as the bad boy of baseball, and that is a title he owns. Kinsley is his best friend and when she gets a new job she needs someplace to stay, and Maddox agrees for her to stay with him. Maddox has never been able to say no to Kinsley, and when she moves in he begins to question his feelings about her, and she is the perfect match for him as she does not let him get away with anything. This is a beautifully written story which is humorous and entertaining throughout. I was completed hooked throughout this awesome story and I highly recommend for all.
4.5
This Baseball series by MQ is definitely one of my favorite sport romance series. They can all be read as a stand-alone novel, but to get the time line right, it is best if you start from the beginning. Maddox has made an appearance in the previous books, and more so in The Trade. We got to know him a little, and some of it wasn’t that lovable as he is a strong and dominant man who is centered mainly on his game. That’s what I love about a MQ book, she can have you not a fan of a character in one book, then when they get their own story to tell us, you fall for them completely. Maddox is that character. Yes he is harsh, stubborn and unyielding but we find out why, what made him that way. We also get to see his flirty side and his sexy swoony charm. And the person who brings all these emotions and feeling out of him is Kinsley. This pair have known each other since they were five, so you can imagine that they know every embarrassing moment as well as their most treasured achievement. They confide to one another about everything.
Kinsley is polar opposite to Maddox. She is an animal devoted, earth loving vegan. After scoring her dream job in an animal shelter, she finally gets to move out from under her parents shield. Her best friend Maddox has offered for her to say with him till she gets settled in Chicago city. Once they start flatting together, they both discover there are more deeper feelings involved in their relationship but they don’t want to ruin their friendship in any way. And as fans of MQ will know, she is going to give us heartbreak and sorrow before we reach the HEA. Kinny and Maddie were made to be together but when Maddox feels betrayed by Kinsley, he reacts in a big way. Was it over the top and out of character for him, in my opinion yes. His childhood issues ran deep for him and it sends him spiraling. This is the first book in a while where I didn’t know who I was suffering along with more. I had tears for both of them and my heart was aching. Have no fear, MQ heals all and we also get an endearing epilogue that will remedy any hurt. Is this the last baseball hero in this series, I don’t know, but I have a feeling that Lincoln from the Rebels wants to share his story with the girl he has had an infatuation to us. I for one want to hear all about it.
