BREAKING NEWS: The Bad Boy of Baseball, Maddox Paige, is totally and utterly whipped. Okay, that might not be the headlines in the newspaper this morning, but it’s the reality of my current situation. It all started a month ago when I received a call from my best friend, Kinsley. She got a new job in Chicago and needed a place to stay. I’ve known the girl since I was five, what harm would it be … harm would it be to have her stay at my place for a while?
Ha! Total disaster.
Now instead of going out every night with my teammates, I’m couch surfing and sketching endless photos of my best friend . . . but that’s the least of my concerns.
The disaster, you ask? I’m rapidly falling head over cleats in love with my best friend, my roommate, and my number one fan.
And she has no idea . . .

This is professional baseball player Maddox Paige’s story and it’s the one I have been waiting for, once again Ms Quinn did not disappoint this book was everything I expected and so much more.
Maddox will do anything for his friends so it was a no brainer when his best friend Kinsley asked if she could crash at his place while she looks for a place to rent, what neither of them realised was this decision to be roommates was going to change their lives and their friendship forever….
This book has all the feels and it ticked all my boxes, Maddox is a man who will steal your heart, he is everything you could ever want in a man , thoughtful, kind, funny, caring and he will certainly have you swooning from the time you start his romance. A romance based on a very special friendship could have this couple falling in love or have their friendship falling apart, the line they are about to cross will change their lives, will it be worth it ….
Ms Quinn is the queen of romantic comedy and for me this book rates up there with the best of 2020, I swooned with the chemistry and I laughed at the banter Maddox and Kinsley shared but most importantly I loved this couple’s personality, I loved how honest their friendship was and how honest they are with each other. This book also has us catching up with past favourites all offering Maddox advice and I loved that. This book will certainly be on my best reads of 2020 and I highly recommend you all one click this gem of a read.
Oh my my my!!! This book was a scorcher! Almost melted my kindle and I was loving on these characters. I could not stop reading even when it was way past my bed time. You get the quirks that come with a Meghan Quinn book! You get a steam factor that will make this heat wave keep getting hotter! I loved this bad boy baseball player and I loved this story. The Change Up is EVERYTHING! Plus the cover was great eye candy any time I needed it 😉
5 star review of The Change Up by Meghan Quinn
The The Change Up is professional baseball player Maddox Paige’s story and I fell for him hook, line and sinker. This is a friends to lovers story that ticked the boxes for me.
When Maddox gets a call from his best friend Kinsley asking if she can crash at his place, he readily agrees, not knowing that this decision will chance not only the course of their friendship but their lives forever.
I fell hard and fast for Maddox, he was everything I wanted and so much more; such a charismatic hero that I couldn’t help but fall for him. Not only is he swoon worthy and hot, but he is caring and protective. The chemistry between Maddox and Kinsley was hot.
Meghan Quinn has a way with words that quickly draws you in and keeps you captivated from the first to the last chapter. As with previous books that I have there was humour and laughter and at times I found myself laughing out loud. I loved everything about the characters and the story.
The Change Up is part of a series of standalone Sport Romances. This is Maddox Paige & Kinsley “Kinny’s story. Maddox is one of the Bad Boys of Baseball and he plays for the Rebels.
Kinsley and Maddox have known each other for a very long time. Kinsley is a mess and her life is pretty disorderly. Maddox is very much a neat freak and this is a story of opposites attract. Kinny is a vegan and a very natural, don’t harm the planet type of girl. She is also very messy and an animal lover. Maddox is very neat, very private and a meat eater.
Maddox is willing to overlook how messy Kinny is because she is his BFF. Even though it’s been a while since they have seen each other they have stayed in touch by talking to each other once a month. Now she is going to move in with him in his 1 bedroom home. I love Maddox and Kinny’s story but I will let you read it for yourself.
This book has it all! It was emotional & funny. So my scattered thoughts are. POOR Clyde and I love Herman. It was also great to see Maddox’s teammates too.
The reading order is:
The Locker Room – Knox Gentry & Emory Ealson’s Story
The Dugout – Carson Stone & Milly Potter’s Story
The Lineup – Jason Orson & Dottie Domico’s Story
The Trade – Cory Potter & Natalie Orson’s Story
The Change Up – Maddox Paige & Kinsley “Kinny”
Now I know I say this for almost every book that Meghan Quinn writes but she really is a MUST READ author. She writes heartwarming, sexy, emotional & laugh out loud books. 5+ STARS
3.5 stars!!
this book was just so lighthearted, easy to read and fun.
the chracters chemistry was what i loved so much about it and honestly maddox as well. he was such a nice and cute guy. like imagine a guy drawing you and just being so in love with you ? yea that was maddox.
although i loved maddox, i disliked kinsley. she was so entitled and didnt have a filter. she took advantage of maddox way too much like girl get a grip. there was also a bit of miscommunication that i was like :/ about.
overall the book was good, really enjoyed it. this was my first meghan quinn book so ill definitely give her other books a try!
WHEW! Maddox might be my favorite baseball boy! Don’t tell Jason or Knox! I can’t help but fall madly in love with each and every character Meghan creates and each book I read of hers is the best little escape from the world. I can’t get enough of her broody, goofy, and overall swoon-worthy baseball boys! They are each one of a kind and Maddox is sure to win you over in this one! He’s everything I thought he was while also being everything I didn’t think he could be! It’s the best of both worlds with him!
When we met Maddox he was this broody playboy always looking for a fight on the field. But The Change Up really shows us Maddox behind closed doors. He’s an ooey-gooey big ole marshmallow with a heart of gold. He has a tough exterior but you will see just how amazing he really is. And we get to thank Kinsley for helping us see that! She was hilarious to read about! Her heart is just as big as Maddox’s and she is full of spunk! She has so many little quirks that are hilarious to see Maddox fuss over. But at the end of the day, these two just have so much love for each other and my heart was just overflowing at times.
This series is definitely one I will be rereading for years and years because of how amazing I feel after finishing each book. There has been a smile on my face every time I have thought about Maddox and Kinsley in the past couple of days. Her books and characters always stick with me and leave me with this fuzzy feeling inside. Sometimes it takes a little heartache to get there, but it’s all worth it in the end and I really think you are gonna love The Change Up!
Maddox is EVERYTHING!
Yes he comes off as such an ahole but once you get to see his true side, he will win your heart.
I loved reading his story and seeing how he interacts with his best friend and now roommate Kinsley.
Their friendship and chemistry was off the charts!
And the groveling was the cherry on top of making this book a Must read!

Gahhhh! Maddie Maddie Maddie! This fellow is something else. You may know him as the bada$$ on the team. Always ready for a fight. But he is also one of the most loyal players. And when his long time best friend moves in with him, we get to see the man behind the mask. We see that he has a heart and is a good kind man… even if he likes to keep that part of himself to himself. We also get to see what makes him the way he is. Diving into his past. Now onto his BFF. She is quite the character herself. While she isn’t broken or damaged, she is a unique person. She’s a save the environment, work in animal shelters, plant eating vegan, trying to open Maddox’s eyes to all things bio-degradable. Poor Maddox doesn’t quite know what to do with himself. Though to be fair, he know all these things about her before she moved in and took over his place. She’s got the biggest heart of all, and that helps ease the transition for him. There are plenty of laughs (and yes folks, Jason is around.) There are many sweet moments. There is that devastating break up, followed by lots of turmoil. But rest assured, there is a happy ever after. As is the usual from this author, the story is well written and keeps your attention from the very beginning. While the actual sex scenes are limited, there is a lot of talk about it, as both characters are very sexual individuals, and not afraid to talk sex. (What may embarrass some people, don’t make them think twice.) So is more suitable for mature readers. It alternates between POVs. While this is part of a series, each book can be read as a stand alone. Each following a different couple, but you will see many of the characters make appearances in each others book.
I loved this book so much!!! It is a definite must read! It is a true Meghan Quinn romcom! You will be laughing, but be prepared to get smacked with all the feels! I was sucked into this book from the very beginning and didn’t want to put it down! Maddox Paige will be near the top of my book boyfriend list! I absolutely would recommend this book!!
Received an arc for an honest review.
Overall Grade:
One of my favorite romance genres is sports romance. There is something about these muscley, hardworking athletes that create chemistry and strife in a way that hits me right in my gut. I’ve read some of Meghan Quinn’s other baseball players, but there was something about her Maddox Paige that piqued my curiosity so much that I NEEDED The Change Up. And in true Meghan Quinn form, she did NOT disappoint.
Now, to be fair, I am working slowly through Quinn’s booklist, so there is still much for me to read. Yet, out of the books I’ve read thus far, I think The Change Up is my favorite. There are so many reasons for this…
Maddox Paige. This hero has so many qualities that I love in romance heroes. For one, he is grumpy. Set in his ways and wanting a more solitary life than most, Maddox gives you butterflies. He’s obviously handsome and $exual in a way that feels different from Quinn’s other heroes. He talks about being a $exual being, and Quinn doesn’t hold back with him. Some of Quinn’s other heroes have felt almost effeminate. That is NOT the case with Maddox Paige. Besides his grumpiness and sensualness, Maddox is complex. He’s layered in his depiction that he hides behind the wall of his grumpiness. Kinsley, Quinn’s heroine, is the key to the lock that is Maddox Paige. And man, do I LOVE heroes with this level of complexity. There is more to him, and as the story evolves, like an onion, Quinn, through her heroine, peels back those layers to find the heart of Maddox Paige. Heroes such as Maddox Paige are my favorite type of heroes.
Kinsley. Oh my gosh. Kinsley is some of the comic relief of this story. Her heart is huge for the environment and animals and, well, Maddox. You can’t help but love her. As I’ve stated before, she is the key to unlock the best of Maddox. Like him, she too is very $exual, so their chemistry in the bedroom is some of the steamiest I’ve read in a Quinn book. In fact, it’s some of the steamiest I’ve read in a few weeks. These two are kindling to a fire, and their chemistry and burgeoning relationship drive you into their story until you find yourself emotionally entangled in their romance.
The emotions of this story. The last third of the story found me with tears streaming down my face. There is an emotional gravitas to this romance that you don’t expect. Obviously, with a best friends to lovers trope, there is the potential for it, but Quinn invests us heavily in her characters by making them likable that when the difficulty of their relationship occurs, you can’t help but feel their pain. For me, when you emotionally connect me to your characters, it’s an instant 5-star rating.
I knew that I wanted to read this book, but I didn’t realize how much I would connect with Maddox and Kinsley’s story. Everything I love in a sports romance is found in The Change Up. It’s a multi-layered story about best friends realizing their feelings and exploring those deeper feelings. It’s about finding “your person” and having the tenacity to move beyond the fear of potentially losing them. So much is wonderful in Meghan Quinn’s The Change Up. If you’re a fan, this should be a must-read, If you’ve never read her books, today’s the perfect time to start with this book.
I love this series and I’ve already claimed my man (Cory) but boy did Maddox came close to making me change my mind. I loved everything about this guy.
Maddox and Kinsley have been friends for years, they talk regularly on the phone but it’s been a while since they’ve seen each other. Kinsley has recently been offered a job in Chicago and needs a place to stay. She’s Maddoxs best friend so why wouldn’t he offer to let her stay with him? He’s not expecting her to have such a massive effect on him though. He’s gone from bad boy baseball player who likes the odd fight and been young, free and single to suddenly living with his vegan best friend who loves animals and who surely but slowly has him becoming a better person.
I absolutely loved Maddox and Kinsley. She is a sweetheart and a genuinely caring person who’s got a heart of gold. She’s a little quirky but I liked that. Maddox is completely different to what I’d been expecting. I loved how thoughtful he was when it came to Kinsley, the guy can’t say no to her and I really liked how wrapped around her finger he was. The banter and chemistry between them was perfect and I may have even swooned a time or two (that sweet side of Maddoxs is a killer).
This is another fantastic book from Ms Quinn. Full of witty banter, toms of chemistry and really likeable characters, this is a definite must read.
Hot…Hot…Hot!!! Meghan Quinn has always been my go to author and I guess I shouldn’t be surprised by now, but somehow she always outdoes herself!! The Change Up was a perfect example of Meghan’s talent. It was hysterical, swoonworthy, and oh so sexy!!
When Maddox’s best friend Kinsley needed a place to stay, he didn’t hesitate. As she started adding her touches to his place she was also leaving them on his heart. Maddox was the bad boy in baseball…who knew he would be taken down by one girl.
Seriously?? Where does she get this stuff?? I had tears from laughing so hard…Clyde…and Herman! This was easily my new favorite from Meghan!! Maddox was such a complex character, it was like watching a puzzle coming together right before my eyes. And Kinsley…could they have been any more perfect together?? Do yourself a favor and read this book!!
Maddox is a sexy baseballs player. He has his fair share of woman, he even has a schedule of who he hooks up with and when. He’s also an alright guy. He had rough childhood. Kinsley has been his best friend for ever. When Kinsley is given an opportunity to move to Chicago for a job, Maddox says she can stay with him. They are each others rock. Kinsley is an animal lover, a vegan, and care for the environment. I really loved her. These two are the greatest of best friends. The both have felling for each other other then friendship though. These two are so cute and they slowly transition from best friends to more. Things were going so great for them and then a huge curve-ball is tossed in and Maddox has to work really hard to repair things. I loved everything about this one, it’s a great read.
4 1/2
Give me a good friends to lovers book any day and I’m a happy girl. Combine that with the humor that Meghan Quinn adds to all of her books and this one hit a home run for me!!
Now, normally you’d see me immediately gushing about how much I loved a book by Meghan Quinn. And don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed it, I just feel like I expected more of an edge from Maddox, the player we loved to hate because of what a jerk he really was, or seemed to be. But this book unfortunately really didn’t show much of that. I get that we needed to fall in love with him, but I still needed that hard, acerbic man we had met, and without it, I just felt something was missing. Honestly he didn’t seem to have that much to change in order to win the girl in the end for me. Yeah, we got how his childhood had been and how much he had dealt with, and that was really the great connection between him and Kinsley.
Of course the story had a lot of the fun pop culture moments that I love, like a reference to the movie The Money Pit, one of my all time favorite movies, and there was a lot of humorous banter between the characters as usual from this author. And the steaminess of it was top level, I mean when nothing was actually even happening, just all talk, well I was fanning myself for sure! Then, the piercing, yes! The relationship seemed just a little bit too easy at first, and then when the big fight or dramatic moment came, I also felt that the two characters gave up too quickly, it wasn’t something I am used to from this author. I usually can totally understand why her characters do what they do and don’t think it’s drama for drama’s sake. Now, again, don’t get me wrong, I still had tears running down my face after the big showdown though. And I loved the dog, Herman, I wanted to cuddle him myself! So while I recommend reading this if you’re already involved with the rest of the Brentwood Baseball series, I’d say don’t start with this one. Although once again, Jason, my favorite, steals the show at times.
“I’d fight anything, anybody it if means I get to have you.”
I was so excited to read that Maddox Paige would get his own book, along the books we get little sights of Maddox, the bad boy who doesn’t share anything with anyone and doesn’t get close. Meghan is the only one who could imagine his perfect match and I can assure you that this book is steamy, original, funny and so much more!!
Kinsley has a heart of gold, there’s not an evil cel in her body, she gives everything she has with no regrets and never thinks to get something back from it. Her new job is at a shelter that needs a heart like hers, in Chicago the same city her best friend lives; so, when Maddox offers a place for her in his apartment, she moves right away, only to discover that maybe the feelings she had for him weren’t just as friendship but she is afraid of what could happen if she decides to act on them.
Maddox is the bad boy, you know the one who gets into fights, the true Rebel at heart and as baseball player, his whole life he’s only had one unconditional person, Kinsley; the only girl who knows him better than he does, she’s been with him in every step of the way, she is the only one who can make him a softy. But there’s a reason he is the way he is, his past was not good or happy, and there’s always something that triggers the past but he never thought he could push away the only one on his side…and maybe there’s no going back.
This book is perfection, I mean the hot scenes …pff some of the bests I’ve read, if there’s something you can be sure about any of Meghan’s books is that you’ll get an alpha male and some serious steamy scenes, not only that but I have to point out that Maddox is one of her best characters, I am sure is the bad boy vibe and the fact that this couple is EVERYTHING, the chemistry between these two is palpable… I am bewitched and I can’t wait to read anything Meghan throws our way!!
My favorite fun and flirty boys of baseball are back! I hope it’s a long time before Meghan Quinn runs out of these sexy, amazing players’ stories to tell, because I am loving this series and baseball has never been so exciting for me. This book is equal parts funny, sexy, sweet and steamy. This time it is Maddox’s turn to fall in love, which seems like a pretty far stretch for the Bad Boy of Baseball. That is until his BF since they were 5 years old, Kinsley, gets a job in Chicago and she moves in with him temporarily. And let me just tell you, this man will steal your heart before you know it! All bets are off as Maddox finds himself wanting to be way more than Kinsley’s friend. The love he has always had for her as her friend is quickly becoming the – OMG I’m in love with her kind of love. But she seems immune to him in that way at first. Kinsley is so sweet and quirky and I just love what a truly good person she is trying to save the planet in all the many ways she does and also save all the animals while she is at it. I love the job she moves to Chicago for. She is also quite sassy in a funny way and puts the cocky Maddox in his place, which I love! But eventually they get on the same page and as their relationship evolves, I absolutely love the honest, easy way they are with each other and how it all seems so organic. But despite everything and how close they become, will a misunderstanding of epic proportions tear them apart? Let’s hope years of friendship and love will get them through it.
I love Maddox and Kinsley’s story so much!
I adore Herman with all my heart! The epilogues were fantastically epic!! Love this series so much and can’t wait for more!!!
Kinsley and Maddox’s story is fantastic, this is a friends to lovers, sport rom-com, one you will be enjoying so much you don’t want it to end, with the perfect humor as only Meghan Quinn does, you will be hooked from page one until the last one. It all starts when she moves in, after all, they are best friends who have known each other since childhood, but chemistry and sparks fly and now everything gets way more interesting. Brilliant five stars!
5 CHANGE UP STARS!! OMG….I love baseball players and Maddox is the perfect players. As always Meghan Quinn transports me into the her story land and I can’t get enough….I never want the story to end. Maddox and Kinsley are best friends and they will take you on a journey you will not forget. Their story has all the feels and will keep you turning pages.
The Change Up is one of the BEST friends to lovers stories I have ever read! Maddox has taken over the top spot in my list of Meghan Quinn book boyfriends. He’s tattooed, sexy, protective, and did I mention sexy? The relationship between Maddox and Kinsley was amazing and that transition from friends to lovers? I loved everything about it! This was one of Meghan’s HOTTEST books ever and then she did what she does best…destroys the relationship 😉 Meghan knows how to break a couple up and then puts every piece of their relationship (and your heart) back together again! I highly recommend this book and the entire series!
