BREAKING NEWS: The Bad Boy of Baseball, Maddox Paige, is totally and utterly whipped. Okay, that might not be the headlines in the newspaper this morning, but it’s the reality of my current situation. It all started a month ago when I received a call from my best friend, Kinsley. She got a new job in Chicago and needed a place to stay. I’ve known the girl since I was five, what harm would it be … harm would it be to have her stay at my place for a while?
Ha! Total disaster.
Now instead of going out every night with my teammates, I’m couch surfing and sketching endless photos of my best friend . . . but that’s the least of my concerns.
The disaster, you ask? I’m rapidly falling head over cleats in love with my best friend, my roommate, and my number one fan.
And she has no idea . . .

GAH, The Change Up was INCREDIBLE! Meghan Quinn keeps knocking it out of the park (pun intended) with this phenomenal series of interconnected standalone baseball romances, and I honestly can’t get enough.
The storyline was fantastic. I’m a huge fan of the friends-to-lovers trope, but best friends-to-lovers combined with sports romance? Even better! Meghan Quinn has taken her writing to the next level, and I. AM. HERE. FOR. IT. She completely blew me away with Maddox and Kinsley’s story in The Change Up. It was super HOT and SEXY, incredibly sweet and swoon-worthy, emotional and heartbreaking at times (the conflict was brutal, but the road to happily ever after was epic and totally worth it), and laugh out loud hilarious. Quinn’s sense of humor was phenomenal, and her love stories have never failed to make me laugh, smile, and swoon. Maddox and Kinsley’s story was truly unforgettable and one of Quinn’s BEST romances to date.
The characters were beyond amazing. I adored Maddox and Kinsley with my entire being. They were two very special characters that immediately captured my heart, and I loved their personalities and the extremely deep and strong bond and connection they shared. Maddox and Kinsley had smoking HOT chemistry together, and I loved nearly all of their banter and interactions with each other. I also loved the secondary characters, especially the familiar faces from previous standalone baseball romances from Quinn. They were a riot as always, and provided an abundance of laughter and entertainment.
The Change Up was a sexy, hilarious, emotional, swoon-worthy, and wholly entertaining standalone sports romance, and definitely one of the BEST novels from Meghan Quinn to date! Maddox and Kinsley’s story is a MUST READ, and I can’t wait to devour more love stories from this exceptionally talented author!
Best friends to lovers perfection! The Change Up is amazing from start to finish. Nobody knows you better than your best friend, until it comes to matters of the heart… A feel-good, friends to lovers romance that will leave you with a smile on your face. Meghan Quinn is an author I can one-click and always be guaranteed laughter and romance.
Out of all of Meghan’s baseball series standalone’s (read them all because this tribe is amazing) Maddox and Kinsley are my absolute favorites!!!! Best friends since childhood, their friendship spans years. When Kinsley comes to Chicago for a job, Maddox has her move in with him. As they spend more time together they realize they both have been suppressing their feelings for one another. This book has major heat, bad-boy with a heart of gold, laugh out loud moments, and their tribe behind them.
Maddox to Kinsley:
I want more with you. I feel it deep in my soul that we’re supposed to be more than just friends, that you’re in my life for a bigger reason. I’ve been fighting with that reason, hoping it wasn’t the need pulsing through me every time I thought of you, but no matter how hard I tried to ignore the obvious, I couldn’t. These feelings aren’t going away, and I don’t want them to. I want you to be with me.”
I really enjoyed this book..my favorite of this series….liked both main characters, good story
You can’t have Maddox Paige. He’s all mine, ladies.
I don’t know how Meghan Quinn does it, but each guy in her baseball series outshines the one who cam before him. And Maddox was nothing like what I expected him to be! We’ve met him before in The Line Up (Jason) and The Trade (Cory), so I knew that Maddox was the surly, intimidating bad boy of baseball. I was not expecting him to be a sweet, vulnerable artist with a soft spot for his vegan, animal-loving, free-spirited best friend, Kinsley.
Kinney and Maddie were so adorable. There is so much history between them, and their love runs deep. Having been best friends since they were 5, Kinsley and Maddox already have a deep love for one another. But when she moves in with him and they become roommates, the feelings that have always been simmering under the surface for 20 years tips them both over to falling in love. Their chemistry is off the charts, as are their sexy times. I loved how they take things slow when it actually comes to having sex for the first time, but the rest of their fooling around was fan-worthy. Seriously, that kitchen scene must be one of MQ’s best fooling around scenes ever!
MQ did a fantastic job with this story. As a reader, I felt every ounce fear that both Maddox and Kinsley had about changing their relationship. I felt how uncomfortable Maddox was when she started changing up his life, and how he felt like his “safe space” was being taken over. When I read the details of his childhood and his abusive father, it gave me a new insight to the guy. When it came to The Break Up, Maddox was way wrong in how he assumed without giving Kinsley a chance to explain. But I got why he reacted the way that he did. And the downward spiral that their split sends him on — the depression he felt over how he treated Kinney once he realized how wrong he was — was hard to read at times. The last thing Maddox wanted was to be anything like his father, and that was exactly the position he found himself in.
I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
I absolutely ADORED Maddox Paige’s story! We’ve met him before and got to know him a bit better in The Trade. But nothing and I mean NOTHING could’ve prepared us for this beautiful man’s story! Megan Quinn got it right and I don’t think it is possible to love this story more than I did! Everything about it was perfect! The characters, the storyline, all of the steamy and swoon-worthy moments…together they melded into the perfect story. It’s funny and sexy and readers will love seeing Maddox brought to his knees by Kinsley. She’s the complete opposite of Maddox but together they work. These best friends-turned-lovers are the perfect match. Don’t miss this standout story!!! 5 stars
Maddox and Kinsley are best friends and are always there for each other. Kinsley wasn’t going to take a job but Maddox said to take it and stay with him. Maddox and Kinsley start to feel things for each other. Can they be more than friend? Great characters and storyline. Highly recommended. Amazing Book.
Fabulous baseball sports romance
I gave this book
The Change Up by Meghan Quinn is a Baseball Sports Romance with Comedy were Bestfriends turned into lovers.
This was my first book I read by this Author, and it won’t be my last. I loved this story it was a swooning, loving, emotional, steamy, funny, book, but it also has it’s seriously intense moments to due with alcoholism it’s effects on the parenting and long lasting effects on its children that can last a lifetime.
Maddox and Kinsley are very best friends since they were small, she’s been his safety blanket, and support system as they grow up together. Maddox now is a big time famous baseball player, Kinsley is a sweet soul, with a kind heart that loves to save and protect all animals. She stayed behind in their old small town, while Maddox left became famous. She just got an opportunity to come work for a nonprofit animal shelter in Chicago, a dream job for her. She really wants it…..so now it’s time for Maddie to step up, and give that support back to Kinny by inviting her to stay with him while she gets settle in her new life. Things and feelings begin to change as they find themselves living fulltime together…..their chemistry has sparks flying.
This was such a great story, I loved the animals, the secondary characters their friends are hilarious. This was a total complete romance to me it was A PERFECT BLEND and I can’t wait to read more books by this Author.
No cliffhangers, standalone, no cheating.
Hands down my favorite book of 2020! I absolutely LOVED this book. I laughed, I cried, and I fell in love with Maddox and Kinsley.
The Change Up is everything I’ve been waiting for in a baseball romance. Meghan Quinn delivers the perfect balance of slow burn, a bit of angst, and a whole lot of chemistry in this friends-to-lovers, opposites attract (with a healthy dose of close proximity) story.
Maddox Paige is the resident bad boy of Major League Baseball. His copious tattoos and bench clearing brawls are the stuff of legends. But he does have a soft spot for one person: his best friend, Kinsley. When she needs a place to stay in Chicago, he readily offers. But things start to shift between the two, things start to get complicated.
I loved this story, and thought that both Maddox and Kinsley were interesting individually, as was their bond and attraction to each other. You really feel like you’re along for the ride, and I liked the fact that I didn’t quite know where this story was headed. A great, entertaining read.
I loved this best friends to lovers romance! It was hot and steamy, sweet and sexy.
Maddox is rough around the edges baseball player who has been labelled as a bad boy because of his past and reputation.
Kinsley is a complete opposite of Maddox but they’ve been best friends since they were five. Despite their differences the two have been best friends since the age of 5.
When Kinsley lands a job in Chicago she calls Maddox who invites her to come live him until she can get on her feet. Everything seems to be going smoothly until their friendship started shifting into more.
I loved everything about Maddox and Kinsley! Their friendship was amazing, the sexual tension was off the charts.
I definitely recommend this one!Meghan Quinn
I knew there was more to Maddox Paige than meets the eye, and I couldn’t be more in love with his story!
This man is so much more than just the ‘bad boy’ of baseball. He has the biggest heart. He’s artistic, creative, funny, charming, a little bit awkward, and a whole mess of sexy! But he’s not perfect by any means. Maddox is broken and has a bit of a tortured soul. He’s been through a lot to get where he is and fear still plays a huge part in his life. The man is going to break your heart and make you want to shake him. Be patient with him. He’s in way over his head.
Kinsley is amazing. I absolutely love her! She’s such a force of nature and a constant bright spot in Maddox’s life. She pushes him out of his comfort zone and challenges him every day. She also drives him a little bit crazy which is fun to watch. She’s charming, sweet, and has so much love to give, especially to her best friend. There’s nothing she wouldn’t do for the boy she grew up with.
There’s nothing better than a good best friends-to-lovers romance and this one checks every single box you can think up. Heat and heart fill the pages of this story. MQ will break your heart in this one, but don’t worry. She’ll put it back together again in the most beautiful way. This book gets all the stars from me. I’m absolutely in love!
Maddox (Maddie) is the consummate bad boy of baseball. Always getting into fights. But there’s a side to him that most people don’t know/see.
Kinsley (Kinney) is Maddox’s best friend since forever. She has a job opportunity that would cause her to move to Chicago… Only she has no where to stay. Maddox offers his place.
The longer they co-habitate together the more they notice latent feelings that have been hiding for each other…
The question is will they or won’t they cross the line. Definitely one-click this story now.
WOW– I REALLY loved this book. First off, I wasnt expecting such a sexy romance book but WHEW!! Super sexy!!! I also loved the fact they were friends and then turned into lovers.
I thought I couldn’t love this series more and then Meghan Quinn goes and writes Maddox’s story and bam even more in love with this series. I don’t even know what to say exactly about this book word are just not flowing out of me. What I’m trying to say is that she has completely outdone herself with this book. It was so devastatingly good. It packs a punch of emotions that will knock you down only to bring you up to a high like a roller coaster of emotions. I absolutely LOVED the depth of this relationship. These two are lifelong friends who have had each other’s backs since childhood, and that share a connection that is absolutely amazing. It’s probably the best friends to lovers romance I have ever read hands down. They have seen each other through all of life’s highs and lows with that when they allow themselves to really see each other they find themselves seeing their relationship from a new perspective a deeper connection . But this bad boy has earned his rep for a reason, and you’re going to want to brace yourself for impact. He is going to live up to his bad boy persona and break Kinsies heart not only hers but all that care for him. I don’t want to give much away because trust me you will want to read it. All I’m going to say is that I was so invested in their relationship from the get go. There is so much chemistry between them and so much history. These two are total opposites yet so perfect for each other. Kinsley is free spirit and a yet a wonderful mess while Maddox is organized and likes to follow a routine. It was so easy to root for these two and fall in love with them both.
Stephannie’s 5 Star Review:
I loved diving into this book to see the real Maddox. I loved how I didn’t have any idea that he was more than the bad boy of baseball who likes to fight. I really loved the kind of man he is and loved seeing the side he keeps hidden. I also loved his long time friendship with Kinsley . She has been there for Maddox ( Maddie) since they were little kids and now she going to be moving in to be his roommate. Kinsley is a sweet, kind and honest person. She loves animals, saving the earth, and is vegan.
This is a friends to lovers romance but the question is will they get their HEA? There are parts that I laugh, swoon and cry. But it is a great book. I love this series and this one a great read. One click this one today!

There’s just something about a Meghan Quinn book that gets my blood pumping. Her stories slay me every. single. time. After reading Quinn’s other baseball books, I have to admit that Maddox Paige was a character that I was extremely curious about. His story was better than I ever could have imagined.
When Meghan Quinn writes a book she doesn’t hold back. I’ve always loved that about her books. Her books just have an essence about them that speaks to me. Her writing style is one that I could pick out of a line up at this point. It is always smooth and inviting. I feel like I am in the zone every time I read one of her books. Her stories are always riveting and I am always completely captivated by them.
Kinsley and Maddox were characters that captured my heart. I felt so connected to them. They were realistic characters that were relatable and likable. I loved the depth that the characters had, which included an intimate shared past. Maddox has some great character growth in the story. I really loved all of the representation of friendship in the book. It was just beautiful. I love how we get to see characters from some of the other baseball hottie books by Quinn. The characters from every single book imprint on your soul and when they show up again in other books it makes your heart soar.
The romance in this book had my heart beating out of my chest. I was a total goner for these two. I can’t even tell you how much I loved this couple. They had such a deep and intense connection that comes from being best friends their whole lives. You could really feel that connection between them through the writing. It was a palpable thing. Their friendship was beautiful and real and everything that makes your heart full. Their devotion to one another was so touching. Their banter and dialogues felt so natural and riveting. Their chemistry was pretty dynamite too.
Overall, this is a story that completely dominated my heart. I fell so in love with these characters and this dazzling story. You can’t go wrong with a Meghan Quinn book. I’ve said this before, but Meghan Quinn is a romancelandia queen and I will follow her anywhere. Every single baseball hottie book that Meghan Quinn releases is better than the last. I don’t know how she does it. I didn’t think that anything could top Cory’s book but Maddox’s story has definitely won me over. I desperately hope that there will be more baseball hottie books from Quinn because I cannot get enough!
Steamy, sexy, and soooo funny – after all, come on! It’s Meghan Quinn!
Kinsley and Maddox are pure gold! Best friends to lovers, yowza…….loved all of their interactions with each other. Could there be a better group of guy friends than Lincoln, Cory and Jason? I absolutely loved how these guys supported and had each other’s backs. So great.
I have been waiting to see how Meghan was going to make me fall in love with bad boy Maddox Paige and boy oh boy did dId she make me fall hard!!
Meghan is so good at writing quirky characters and I think that Kinsley is probably the best one yet. Her love of animals, especially those who are less than perfect, her out look on life in general is endearing and her personality infectious to those around her and she is just what Maddox needs!
Privacy is critical to Maddox and despite his bad boy persona on and off the field, deep down he is shy and just wants a quiet life away from the chaos that was his life growing up where the only person he could count on was his “Kinny”
Kinsley bounces into his life with her earth saving products, her vegan diet and a three legged dog called Herman and turns it upside down and before they both know it things are rising to the surface that neither of them expected – or did they??
This has to be one of my favourite friends to lovers stories and yet again Meghan has written a page turner of a book
