I Lost The Love Of My Life… Billionaire Romance, inspired by Alexandre Dumas’ “The Count of Monte Cristo”. It’s a thrilling and steamy story of jealousy, betrayal, lust, and revenge. This is a stand-alone novel with no cliff-hanger and a HEA, the first in the Classic Billionaires series.more
*First time reading author
I want to say I loved this story, but I didn’t. I want to say that the characters of this book blew me away and I couldn’t put it down, I can’t. The premise of this book is good, and I think if the characters had more chemistry and maybe if I actually liked Hazel I could enjoy this book.
I tried to finish The CEO of Cristo but to be honest I made it to where Ethan gets out of prison and then I gave up. I didn’t like Ethan or Hazel. I was actually rooting for the bad guy Van. He was the only one in this book that had any kind of character or feelings in this book.
I hope someone else can enjoy this story, but it just wasn’t for me.
Sophie Lark has written a wonderful nuanced book with incredible characters. It’s completely unique in that you get the heroine, hero, and villians point of views. Ethan and Hazel’s journey from carefree, trusting young adults to world wary jaded adults is painful. There reunion is beautiful to read. Great great book! Definite 5 stars!

Love the cover! Love the adaptation! Love the ending! MORE than 5 Stars…
This book was sooo good. It is inspired by “The Count of Monte Cristo” by Alexandre Dumas and diverges enough to make me happy. I suggest either before or after reading this book (which you really MUST do) look at the movie with the actor Jim Caviezel playing the part of the Count. You will see why I am happier with this version. I also like that Ms. Lark has us feel compassion for the oft misunderstood character of Van first, before our impressions ultimately change.
Van is the stereotypical rich kid whose father never expected much of him and so he lived up to those expectations. He has coveted the relationship between Ethan and Hazel for years, waiting for his opportunity, which comes after an especially horrific event. Nerdy Ethan and Hazel are so in love and so very innocent to the ways of the world. They are totally caught off guard. Knowing the story of “The Count of Monte Cristo” I felt heart-pounding dread as events unfolded. Ethan’s bike ride home the night before everything changes for him is so gripping. I couldn’t read fast enough. Read straight through b/c I needed the happy ending.
The steam is limited to basically a few scenes but they are very visually tantalizing. Oh. My. Word…there are so many things I would like to say but they would be spoilers. I read a lot so when I say that this is one of the most suspenseful and best written books I’ve read lately. it is no exaggeration.
It comes highly recommended for readers who enjoy fast-paced suspense, mystery and some steam, but more importantly true love. I give it 10 stars. I received an advance review copy for free (thru BookSirens), and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This book kept me guessing! It was a great book to read and an even greater one to read the bonus epilogue! The passion and love of hazel and Ethan draws you into their web.
This book was so different from Sophie’s other books that she has written. This book tells the story of Van, Ethan and Hazel and the hardships that these three went through. Will Hazel end up with Van? Will Hazel end up with Ethan? You will have to read this book to get those answers. This book as so many twists and turns that you don’t really know how the story is going to end.

This is book one in the Classic Billionaires series. I was introduced to this author through the Colours of Crime series. This was an easy pick to read for me. A modern twist on The Count of Monti Cristo, just adds to this story. The characters are amazing, they have the ability to captivate and pull you along through their journey. Can Hazel, Van, Ethan and Matt find their own happiness or will it shatter them all apart for good? A great read, highly recommend this author. Enjoy!

Ethan and Van were best friends in college. Ethan was on scholarships and Van came from money. When both guys met Hazel they both fell for her, but she fell for Ethan. They graduated and formed a company with the help of Van’s father’s money. Van was jealous of Ethan and framed him for a murder that he committed. The turmoil it caused ruined Ethan and Hazel. But Ethan sought revenge when he was released from prison early and things weren’t as anyone thought they were.

If you enjoyed the book “Count of Monte Cristo” or the movie “The Man Behind the Iron Mask” you’ll love this book. Love triangle, revenge, suspense, drama, and some crazy twists and turns, this book has it all. Ethan and Van are roommates in college, best friends, and eventually business partners. They both fall for Hazel, but it appears Ethan has won her heart, but Van won’t go away quietly. Van is a master manipulator and does all in his power to get Hazel and get rid of Ethan. The book moves quickly, the storyline is great, all the characters grow and are so interesting, even Van. I read it in an evening simply because I couldn’t put it done. Great Read. Free with KU and a great weekend read.

4 1/2 Stars
The drama suspense and angst in this storyline wasn’t between the hero and heroine, but focused on the intense emotions of Van whose selfish and entitled personality had him falling off the deep end when it came to his obsession with Hazel.
His twisted desire had him plotting Ethan’s ruin to get him out of the way for his own HEA with Hazel.
I really liked the way the author introduced Van first with his POV. It set the tone on the storyline that was filled with suspense and intrigue. Ethan’s relationship with Hazel endured the test of time even though he was a bonehead to push her away.
Well written and deep.

OMG – What a thrilling story of jealousy, betrayal, lust and revenge that immediately grabbed me and pulled me right into the middle of all that was happening and I just couldn’t put the book down until I read the last word. The twists and turns and ups and downs kept me on the edge of my seat, turning the pages as fast as I could to see what was going to happen. I really liked Hazel and loved her attraction, undeniable chemistry and devotion to Ethan. Ms. Lark has become one of my favorite authors and this is the perfect start to her Classic Billionaires series. Can’t wait to read more from this gifted author. Fantastic job Sophie, thanks for sharing this bad boy with us.
I really enjoyed this author’s modern twist on a classic story and devoured it in one sitting! It was engaging and well-written with sweet and likable main characters.
My small complaint is that it felt rushed, especially the first part, so it was a bit hard for me to connect more deeper with characters.
I recommend this book and look forward to read more from this author!

Will Ethan rise to revenge his past and claim his love
You will not believe the plot twists in the book! Van and Ethan separately meet Hazel at a party, but only one of them walks away with her number. What follows is a story of friends uniting to form a startup followed by deep heartache when Ethan is framed for murder. Hazal is destroyed by Ethan’s conviction, but joins Van in the launch of their successful app. Hazel and Ethan each have something to share, but when Ethan goes first, Hazel keeps her secret. But years later when Ethan is released from jail, he seeks revenge against the real murderer. It all comes together in a spectacular ending.
Van murders Matt, then frames Ethan for it. Ethan sends Hazel away from visiting him in prison, saying it’s too long for her to wait for him. Van is biding his time until he can make Hazel his. Ethan is released from prison due to the efforts of the Innocence Project, and begins plotting his revenge. Holy cow – this is one wild ride! Disclaimer: Although I know the basic story line, I never read The Count of Monte Cristo, so I didn’t come in with any preconceived notions about what should happen. I love Hazel, such a smart young woman, good mother, loyal to a fault. Van turns out to be as much of a spoiled, self-absorbed prick as I thought he was after reading the first chapter. It wasn’t much of a stretch to imagine him as the villain. Meeks (Ethan’s first cellmate in San Quentin) – not really “friends”, but he took good care of Ethan in appreciation for Ethan having his back, setting him up to be able to exact his revenge. The quotes at the beginning of each chapter are so perfect for what’s coming up. I previously read one other book from this author, one that was really good, but this book just blew me away.
