A millennium into the future two advancements have altered the course of human history: the colonization of the galaxy and the creation of the positronic brain. Isaac Asimov’s Robot novels chronicle the unlikely partnership between a New York City detective and a humanoid robot who must learn to work together. Like most people left behind on an over-populated Earth, New York City police … York City police detective Elijah Baley had little love for either the arrogant Spacers or their robotic companions. But when a prominent Spacer is murdered under mysterious circumstances, Baley is ordered to the Outer Worlds to help track down the killer.
The relationship between Life and his Spacer superiors, who distrusted all Earthmen, was strained from the start. Then he learned that they had assigned him a partner: R. Daneel Olivaw. Worst of all was that the “R” stood for robot—and his positronic partner was made in the image and likeness of the murder victim!

Every few years i treat myself to a re-reading of one of Asimov’s series. I love the Caves of Steel! Great introduction to a not-impossible future.
The “Caves of Steel” is science fiction now over fifty years old. It is interesting partly because it touches upon themes and questions currently presented to us by the advances in artificial intelligence. It is always interesting, when reading older sci-fi, to note how accurate the author’s presentiments of the future were. Asimov’s creation of a …
A detective story
part of Asimov’s long story our conquest of the galaxy
As with all of his books your view of everything is broadened and challenged to contemplate were our society can go or where it will go or who will we meet when things change.
Love the ties to the Foundation series. Have always been an Asimov fan.
I love Isaac Asimov and have done for years. This was not the first time I have read this book but I enjoyed it as much as the first time. It feels a little dated, given when it was written and all the scientific developments since then, but nothing can repress the author’s genius for creating characters and situations, some of them so very …
It wasn’t as good as when I first read it at age 13.
Classic
Great futuristic read from long ago.
Anything Issac writes is worth reading especially his robot stories.
I would love to see a movie made from this book. I could see Will Smith as the New York City police detective Elijah Baley. Elijah had little love for Spacers or their robotic companions. He is sent to investigate a murder that involved a prominent Spacer. The Robotic Laws play a big part in he solution. It appears a robot did the killing, but …
This man’s vision was amazing. If you’ve never read Asimov and are a SciFi fan, do yourself a favor and start reading his books.
I loved all of Asimov’s Robot and Foundation novels.
Classic Asimov. My father introduced me to Dr. Asimov 60 years ago at N.I.H where he was giving a speech. It was one of the most interesting I’ve ever attended.

The classic!
An excellent book that is part of an integration of a future human history spanning thousands of year.
All of the above and it is worth re-reading.
this is a book I’ve remembered for long.
For me, it was a foundation (no jokes) for my sci-fi reads. The characters are believable and moving. The plot is very well built and will have you hanging until the last pages. If you haven’t read it yet, go for it !
I am a big Asimov fan and enjoyed all of his foundation and Robot stories I read this quite a while ago, so I cannot remember the details other than it was part of a series.
