I really liked this one.
Keep it up you are doing a great job. I completely enjoyed this story. I will be looking for more.
Slow reading with characters that were hard to buy into. I didn’t finish the book.
Lady Chrystable dances to her own tune. She works until she gets what she wants even though it’s against the law. She loves Christmas, but she and her family are forced out of their home. On their journey in a snowstorm they stop at a house to rest and get stranded for a couple of days. Christmas is outlawed but Lady Chrystable is going to celebrate at all cost; even if her hosts are against it.
I didn’t bother to finish. It was a bit silly.
Crystabel believes in love at first sight after she meets Joseph Tremayne. Chrystabel, her sister Arabel, and her brother Matthew are on the road to Wales in an ice storm after their home had been confiscated by Oliver Cromwell. As the roads grew worse and the cold intolerable, the group headed toward a castle visible a mile from the road, the home of the Tremayne’s. This rollicking tale centers on Chrystabel who believes that she’ll be betrothed to Joseph in three days. Fun read, especially at Christmas.
I definitely learned more about Oliver Cromwell then I had before. I didn’t love the story but it was clever and I liked many of the characters. I was interested enough to look up other books in the series although I haven’t purchased anything else yet. Still, it made our car drive a lot faster.
What a cute, sweet Christmas story. Loved it!
It is very slow to develop. The female character was portrayed as somewhat weak and fearful. I prefer a strong one. Maybe she finds her spine but I am too impatient to wait. I might try to read this later.
Not particularly believable but fast and different. You probably won’t take away any “nuggets” to remember
Good portrait of the time. The heroine has lost so much because of her family supporting the Royalists; the hero and his family chose to go far enough away that they were not of interest to the followers of Cromwell.
There are enough romantic tropes for more than one book and the required HAE. This is a sweet romance rather than a steamy one.
I love Chrystabel but I also want to smack her sometimes… she repeatedly risks her benefactors lives with her selfish desire to celebrate a holiday that has been outlawed. She is also a bit of a gold digger but a loveable one. I thoroughly enjoy all the Chase books.
A lovely well written romance. Early potatoes were so hard to digest (esp lumpar) that they were thought of as food for peasants. High yield/food per acre.
Really enjoyed this book – great plot – the history of life under the Protectorate was fascinating!
Great fun at Christmas especially with covid hanging overhead. Just think it could be OliverCromwell outlawing Christmas too!
Sure to get you humming Christmas tunes and decorating the castle
Thank you for the lovely story
As with all of Lauren Royal books, you won’t be sorry you spent the time reading ir. You will even look for more of the UTHOR’S BOOKS.
Rather boring, and somewhat silly
Beautiful writing from two talents.
Another great read during the holidays.
