Well-Imagined Paranormal Romance Series
The first book of this series is actually one of the first paranormal fantasy books I read when I started reviewing a lot of books back at the beginning of 2019. It immediately charmed me, reading and reviewing each book as it came out. The author well imagined this world and created complex characters whom I loved reading about.
As I said in my first review (with a few additions from my second review): With elements of fantasy, the paranormal, intrigue, romance, magic, secret societies… what’s not to like!
Below you’ll find some abbreviated reviews of the books in this series.
Book 1: Coven at Callington: Witch Wars, Intrigue, and Romance in Fantastical Regency England
Fresh from fending off an attack by hellhounds, Guard of the Green Cross—a secret arm of the Anglican Church meant to handle evil forces and entities if they rise from darkness—the Earl of Braden gets new orders from the Archbishop that are directly opposed to a central tenet of the guard’s code: do not interfere in disputes between witches and warlocks. Centuries ago witch hunts blackened the name of guards (then known as knights), so meddling is now forbidden. Braden has been tasked with retrieving the son of a warlock, who was supposedly taken by a demon, as well as destroy the coven in the area. More is happening at Callington than Braden imagined, and he is more than tempted to enlist the aid of the coven protectress, Merryn, to help figure it all out. Merryn believes that the same warlock who killed her younger brother has taken the boy.
The author has done a fantastic job of creating a magical version of Regency England. I love how the first scene in Regency times a flame in a streetlight is talking! I literally did a double-take to see if I was reading correctly! There are other magical elements as well, some of which are not truly explained until later. I thought the idea of having this secret group of guards under direct orders of the Archbishop of Canterbury was inspired. Braden is a complicated, fascinating hero to watch wrestle with right and wrong, on both personal and professional levels.
Book 2: Warlock from Wales: Pulled into a Danger, Magical World She Never Knew Existed
Just like the first book in the series, this book is a delight to read because of its complex interweaving the story and character arcs as well as the classic fight of good vs. evil. There are gradations, of course, as what one person sees as good, another may not. Romance is in the air on several fronts, which adds another element that deepens the suspense of the story—how will the greater arc of the story affect them—as both sets of lovers have one magical partner and one human one. The author is very good at describing spooky settings. You feel like you can see them and feel the malevolence of people and place. I liked how Mary was a smart and strong heroine, known for her interest in science. Hugh is a good hero who acted well even when difficult circumstances were thrust upon him.
Book 3: Love Spell in London: Another Delightful Regency Paranormal Romance
I have read all the books of this particular series, and I cannot express how much I completely enjoy them. The author has conceived a complex and nuanced world, and I enjoy returning to it. I love paranormal books and Regency ones separately, so this unexpected combination of the two is a delight. What I particularly liked about this one is that she was able to get me right into the story with a strange prologue told from the point-of-view of an eel in the Thames! That’s pretty original. The next scene was another that continued bringing me into the unique world of this series. A healing witch, our heroine, is at the bottom of a well, rescuing a lamb. Things, of course, get more interesting once the hero and heroine start to clash. I like this author’s attention to detail. Even though she has created this different-from-our-own paranormal world, she’s able to describe things that make it seem real. I don’t think that’s easy to do when the world imagined is so different from reality. If the idea of a paranormal Regency world of witches and warlocks who are at war with each other intrigues you, pick up this book.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
The Cauldron Effect: The Complete Series by Shereen Vedam is a fantastic box set that I have read. This is a fantastic box set that I have loved reading very much and can not wait to see what else this author will write. I highly recommend this fantastic box set to everyone who loves reading about witches. fantasy and Holiday romance.

I love these stories, The way almost everything has character in the book along with the world build is just amazing.
This series got me hooked after the first book. The first book did take a little time to get me involved, but picked me up and kept me there for the rest of the books. It’s amazing some of the characters and ideas and thought processes that you see through out the series. Things I would have never ever imagined were detailed where I could picture them and follow along with the characters in their quests. Great read once it gets started!
I really liked this series It made me laugh out loud and kept me entertained the whole time. It was full of mystery and a bit of suspense as it combined magic, church and the Regency period with all its glamor together. Book 1 The main characters are on the hunt to discover the location of a missing boy and end up meeting each other at the beginning and the fun begins. Book 2 Mary and Hugh meet and end up on an adventure to discover secrets from the past. But each had a slightly different plan. Book 3 has Devlin who chases down Grace to get back his hell hounds and go on a mission to get even with an ex. Instead he gets sidetracked. The whole series was a great read that left me guessing as to what was happening but slowly starts to reveal what is going on. Just a fun read. Loved it.

A magical set full of whimsey, and an original plot of how witches and warlocks came to be. and their efforts to go unnoticed among the regular population. I enjoyed each of these books and found the author’s explanation for the witches and warlocks origin creative.

I enjoyed all three of these books and if I had to I couldn’t pick one over the other, my review is on the first book in a world where you hear the animals discuss all that happens around them to the household item that speaks of their family’s problems, you have begun your visit to the witches we live with every day. The Wyhcan’s have lived with humans since they had been forced to leave their dying planet, the difference between them and their human neighbors is magic! Thomas the Earl of Braden had trained to become a guard for the Green Cross, he swore to wipe out the evil and magic he found. Merryn Pendraven had just been named Coven Protectress of Britain was on a mission to solve a problem when she realizes the true problem is back in her own village. A male child disappeared from the village church and all hell is beginning to break out. Join all the great characters in this book and discover where the magic takes you.

Coven at Callington
Merryn is Coven Protectress, and Braden is a Guard of the Green Cross, both are on a mission to find a young boy that disappeared on the day he was to be baptized.
I was fascinated by the characters, all of them, and loved the conversations between some unanticipated, sometimes quirky characters. I always wondered if animals talked to each other. there are unexpected, ans surprising twists in the plot, magic, fae, other paranormal creatures, as well as romance. I couldn’t put this book down, and look forward to this next book in this series. Fantastic!
Warlock from Wales
Mary Bryght is an amateur historian, and a very bright young woman. On her way to tell her friend about her brother’s new commission from the Prince Regent, she is attacked by a vile man she later learns is a warlock. He warns her to stop her brother from fulfilling the royal commission, or the consequences will be dire. Hugh Price became the Earl of Flint after his father’s untimely death, and is ordered by the Prince Regent to keep Mary safe as she travels to Scotland, in order to do research for her brother’s commission. Unfortunately, he is also under orders from the Warlock Council to do anything necessary to keep Mary from completing her mission.
Wonderfully well written, sometimes funny, and definitely quirky cast of characters. I think this is a fascinating romance with a little mystery, some suspense, and an exciting adventure. There are plenty of twists in this plot that kept me engrossed in this book from the first page. I loved this book!
Love Spell in London
Grace is a witch with extraordinary healing powers. Devlin is part warlock, part dark fae, and he is on a mission for the Warlock Council. She has his hell hounds, he wants them back.
While I don’t read many regency romances I will admit that I loved this series. The characters, including the animals, and objects are fascinating, and fun. Conversations flow smoothly, and kept me engrossed in the story. Grace, and Devlin don’t take long to discover they are both essentially, on the same mission. They will embark on a exciting, action packed quest to save their world. I thought this was a fantastic paranormal romance, I loved it!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
I love this series! I never thought that anyone could properly merge urban fantasy, paranormal romance and Regency romance smoothly until I read these novels. These have all the airs of a Georgette Heyer romance with paranormal and urban fantasy (calibrated to fit in the Regency time period) elements which are not second thoughts but are carefully interwoven into the very warp of the stories. It is as if the author mixed together Stephanie Laurens’ Cynsters series with Patricia Wrede’s Mairelon the Magician novels to give us gentlemanly villains trying to outwit ladies they are not allowed to contradict as they charge forth on sweetly intriguing romps. Such fun! I say again, I love this series!
