Everybody has somewhere they belong…Cat Milsom ran from her life in the USA – from a career as a hospital doctor, and from an engagement just to please her family. When she stopped running, she found herself on the other side of the world in a little town called Cable Bay, New Zealand. Now she runs a bar, and tells herself that living up to people’s expectations is overrated. Archaeologist Ryan …
Archaeologist Ryan Sanders has never settled anywhere. Travelling the world, he thinks that settling down is for little people who can’t see beyond their own front door. When he’s sent to investigate a report of fossils discovered in Cable Bay, he thinks it’ll be simple; done in a few days, and then on to the next job.
Problem is, the fossils are directly underneath Cat’s bar, and she’s not about to see it demolished without a fight.
Sometimes it takes digging up the past to open your eyes to the future.
‘The Cat’s Pajamas’ is a romantic comedy with a little bit of steam, a cast of quirky characters, and a guaranteed HEA!

A fun and exciting new book by Soraya May, “The Cat’s Pajamas”, is the first in a new series that captivates from the beginning.
“The Cat’s Pajamas” is set in the scenic seaside location of Cable Bay in New Zealand, plentiful with colorful small town characters and original dwellings, including the Wunderbar. Cat Milson, like others, fell in love with Cable Bay, wanting a new place to belong. Cat, formerly from the USA, was on a mission to take control of her life, leaving behind her parents her fiance and career, for a chance to start over. She quickly set anchor, purchasing the Wunderbar, which became a central gathering for the town. Little did she know her life was about to change when contacting an archaeologist about some bones in her pub basement. From the moment Ryan Sanders enters the pub Cat knows there is electricity between them. Ryan might be here to examine the bones in the basement, but he was easily distracted when the local bar owner decided to heat things up and passionately kiss him on arrival. However, as Ryan’s findings could mean the end of her new life, is Cat wiling to take a chance at love and to risk it all? And will Ryan want to give up the focus on preserving the past and focus on today and a possible future with Cat?
Soraya May’s portrayal of many Cable Bay characters, in “The Cat’s Pajamas” evokes a familiarity with the small town. Many interesting characters are depicted from the local green grocer, the mechanics, the ladies knitting circle, even a bicker with a strange dog, adding depth to the story.
Most significantly, the lead characters, Cat and Ryan, are depicted so well, that it is easy to invest in their stories. With their backgrounds, personalities, likes, and even flaws detailed, their fragility of wanting to belong and be loved, evokes emotions in readers from passion to sadness to happiness, and wanting a happy ever after. As the story continues to develop, and Cat and Ryan’s stories start to become more inter-woven (helped by the two-way narrative), each assisting the other in overcoming their biggest fears that are holding them back from their future.
Soraya May captivates readers from the front cover, with a passionate and enticing couple embracing, the scenic backdrop of Cable Bay, a cute little cat, and a title that brings intrigue. Immediately followed by a plot that is fun, tantalizing and suspenseful, that compels readers to want to know more. Even the detail of a small cat emblem at the end of each chapter shows the thought and detail Soraya May has given to this book. Aside from the passion and fun elements, humor is also a key element in the story, and many times, readers will be laughing to the point of tears. One memorable scene will jump out with readers when Ryan comes to town (no spoilers). All elements combined, from the front page, to an exhilarating plot with an epic cast of characters,”The Cat’s Pajamas” easily stands out as a must-read small town romance.
I thoroughly recommend all lovers of romance, who love humor and passion, to read “The Cat’s Pajamas” by Soraya May. However, with some mature scenes, this is recommended an adult reader. At the end of the story, a sneak peak of the second installment is given, a romance for Beatrice the town mechanic. I can’t wait to read the future installments of this series and see what love has install for the different characters of Cable Bay, and see who cupid hits!
I received this book in advance in exchange for a fair and honest review. The Cat’s Pajamas
