After the storm of the century rips apart New Orleans, sixteen-year-old Adele Le Moyne and her father are among the first to return. Adele wants nothing more than to resume her normal life, but with the silent city resembling a war zone, a parish-wide curfew, and mysterious new faces lurking in the abandoned French Quarter, normal needs a new definition.Strange events—even for New Orleans—lead … New Orleans—lead Adele to an attic that has been sealed for three hundred years. The chaos she accidentally unleashes threatens not only her but also everyone she knows.
Caught in a hurricane of myths and monsters, Adele must untangle a web of magic that weaves the climbing murder rate back to her own ancestors. But who can you trust in a city where everyone has secrets and keeping them can mean life or death? Unless…you’re immortal.

A very cool series using lots of New Orleans vampire lore with characters you will love. Team Nicco!
Loved it! Couldn’t put it down once I started Reading.
Amazing book the plot the different settings loved. I really enjoyed the characters. Adele moves back to New Orleans with her dad and under covers some family history and I was taken away. Love this on to the second
WOW!! This is so much more then a vampire story. It is a love letter to New Orleans, a joyful guide thought the history and life of the city as well as the resilience and dedication of it’s people through storms and pain.
At the basics, this is a story of high school kids finding out about vampires, witches’ and the like and protecting their city, themselves and their families. It has action and a bit of romance, magic and supernatural antics. It is full of vibrant life and people and stories. But it is also so much more then that.
I loved the way it was presented, both in present forms and in past. It makes the story so much richer and there is SO much packed into these 560+ pages. There is not a word or a sentence or a page that is wasted. There is foretelling, and hints throughout the story. it is predictable at times? Yes. Does that take away from the story? Not at all.
This story demands to be read, that all the readers focus in on the story. It devours the reader and throws them into the story. There is no choice. I became a part of this adventure along with the characters and it was the ride of my life. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series and to once again be transported to a magical and wonderful world!
Top read of 2021 for me.
I loved the history in this book. It’s woven in so well without slowing down the fictional storyline. New Orleans, vampires, witches, Katrina and amazing characters. Such a great combination.
Loved the series. Likeable characters, interesting historical notes about New Orleans, new spin on vampires living there
I love everything about this book. The world building, the characters, the way you feel you’re transported to New Orleans, present day and back in time. It’s like having a love affair with a city and a world of magic on each page.
Really felt a connection to the characters!
Fantastic fantastic fantastic. Amazing atmosphere. Not your ordinary girl meets vampire story. Sort of an hallucinating apocalypse Mardi Gras at the end.
Just when you think you’ve had as much PNR as you can handle for a lifetime, along comes a book set in steamy, atmospheric New Orleans with a well thought-out cast of characters set against an infamous legend in the French Quarter. Super excited that this is a series and I can’t wait to begin the next installment!
Original and sweet. I rarely read YA, but really enjoyed this one!
Reading Alys Ardens’s bio was enough to get my attention and being a New Orleans native my curiosity said I had to read this book. I won’t go into detail about the story-line because others have already done that but I will tell you this; Alys Arden writes a compelling paranormal story with characters you learn become invested in. She has a fresh take on vampires and witches and uses the Crescent City and the supernatural world in her story very well. Her knowledge of the city is a big plus to her writing and the aftermath of a terrible hurricane mixed with superstition and lore keeps you turning the pages.
The plot was unique and interesting and gives you plenty of tense moments that leave you wondering what’s going to happen next. There are a lot of myths and legends surrounding New Orleans and Louisiana but Alys Arden chose to use the story of the Casquette Girls (which is based in truth) and took it to a whole new level that is entertaining and intriguing.
The background story, a family diary that Adele (the main character) finds written in the 18th century, adds an historical background to the novel that I like very much. This is a love story about New Orleans as well as it is about the characters portrayed on the pages and Alys Arden does it well.
This series might be the best representation of New Orleans in a book ever.
Perfectly crafted
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was phenomenal. The writing was amazing, perfectly crafted. Alys Arden did an amazing job bringing her twist on vampires. I’ve never been to New Orleans, but if I ever do, I’m sure to think of this book. Can’t wait to check out the sequel!
