Sun, sand, and surf. What could be better? Penny Banks, amateur PI, is on vacation! She’s all ready to relax and soak up the sun, but it seems the magical universe has other plans for her. A local woman goes missing, and Penny takes the case…
Case of the Freedom Spell by Amorette Anderson is fantastic! The characters and their relationships are the best parts. In this book Penny and Max are eloping in Paradise Key in the Florida keys! Turkey, her feline familiar is also there and excited to meet the other familiars at the Naughty Familiars Association headquarters!
Meanwhile it’s time for Penny’ to study the twelfth lesson in The Art & Science of Becoming a Witch (ASBW). Max is insisting she finish it before their upcoming nuptials! Meanwhile she discovers there is a missing local woman. As they go to rent a kayak they discover the owner of the shop was the missing woman’s boyfriend and she disappeared the night they were set to leave the island for good! She also learns the woman has to be found ASAP because of a kidney transplant she requires medicine every week or else she will die. No worries Penny is on the case! Turkey informs her most people on the island are magical creatures mainly merpeople and the missing woman is in fact a mermaid! The deadline to find the woman is the same day as her wedding! Can she find her in time? This is just the beginning of the adventure! Without a lot of suspects she gets down to work. The information she receives makes no sense to her until she does the freedom spell and figures it out! I really enjoyed this book with Penny minus her coven. I totally love Max and turkey! I’m so happy they finally got married in a way that remains true to their characters! I can’t believe this is the 12 th book already! If you like a book with an original plot that is also a light and funny read this book and series is for you! I highly recommend this book and this series!

Totally and utterly cool!!!
This installment has a different setting (Florida, Paradise Key, not Hillcrest) and a different sort of case. A missing person’s case. There’s also less Marley, Annie and Cora, but I didn’t mind at all, as there’s more Max and Turkey. And I loved it! I want to shout it from the rooftops: if you like paranormal cozies, then I’m sure you’ll love this too!!! And there are mer people in this book! How totally and utterly cool! And it got very edge-of-my-seat at the end!
Light-hearted fun, but I do really learn from these books as well! Penny (witch-in-training) learns a lot and shares that with us, the readers. Some of the things Max says, his deep thoughts about life and living, are real brain teasers and really make me think, and I love that! I loved Max’s bigger role in this, and seeing him and Penny together. A lot of exclamation marks in this review, but it’s just that kind of book!

Perhaps the most complex plot and mystery yet in an exotic setting with magic breaking the bounds of what we have seen so far in this book. Retaining its light bubbly feel, and Penny’s adorable innocence this book pushes her to grow and perform feats she never dreamed possible. Turkey got a pretty big role in this one too. It is fun to watch his personality grow and develop through the books.
Squeezed in there somewhere, this is Penny and Max’s wedding/honeymoon and I was hoping that we would *finally* get to see some chemistry but it never really happened. Sometimes it seems like they have such a good relationship because he is always off running and giving her space to work on her mysteries and witch studies. It just doesn’t seem like they have much in common other than their mentor/mentee relationship and the physical. I would have liked to see a supportive partnership.

Best beginning of the series yet!!! As usual, Penny is up to her usual antics with Turkey keeping her on track. I adore this series! They make me giggle and are very relatable. Very easy and fun to read, plus, you never know what might turn up!

This is a book I have been waiting for, Max and Penny’s wedding. They have chosen a remote island very small wedding, Turkey is the only one who accompanies them. Of course just because Penny is on vacation, doesn’t mean she can turn off her curiosity and the PI in her. She sees a article in the paper about a missing girl. Max encourages her to find the girl and complete the freedom spell in addition to their wedding plans.
This is an amazing cozy paranormal mystery/romance. The characters are great and Penny continues to develop. The mystery is full of surprises and complications that leaves you interested until the end. The author expertly weaves together the mystery, with the freedom spell mastery and the magically wonderful romance into a great cozy mystery. I really liked Turkey having his own adventure as well. This is such an amazing series, if you like awesome cozy mysteries the pick this one up.
I received this book for free and have voluntarily left a review.

Penny is getting married. Her and Max have picked out an island getaway with plans to marry and honeymoon. And there is another step to take a test to pass on her way to becoming a full fledged witch. Or rather vampire witch. Or witch vampire, a vampitch? Whatever. Shes advancing. Penny being Penny she just has to find trouble wherever she goes. Even on a vacamoon. Or a honeytion. And even though she is supposed to be getting married, it makes no difference. The local newspaper has an article about a missing young woman. So Penny offers her services to help look for her. Only this time she is mostly alone. Turkey has gone off to visit with a secret society of cats on a neighboring island. So while waiting for the elusive Turkey to return, she starts looking for clues. Frustrated she is turning up things that have her barking up the wrong trees, she decides to listen to Max and start working on her freedom spell. The first one she will do alone without her sisters and one she is debating not to even do. Frustrated with dead ends after finding out the missing girl has a medical condition and could die if not found soon, she finds it difficult to relax and enjoy the combination of vacation and possible honeymoon. Penny anxiously awaits the return of Turkey to help her sort through what is quickly becoming a frustrating mess. Does Penny find the girl in time? Will she complete the next witch test? And will she marry Max after all? You wont know unless you read this book. Besides which you dont want to miss out on Turkey learning to swim. For those not already following the series, its still an excellent fun read. So give it a chance. You want to know about a cat learning to swim. Sure you do. Read it. You will enjoy it.

Elope to Florida with hunky Max? Stumble onto a mystery? Mermaids? Yes, yes and YES! Go, Penny!
PI/witch Penny Banks elopes to an island in the sun with her hunky vampire boyfriend Max — and Turkey — because what’s romantic getaway without a cat? Penny, of course, happens onto mystery and, while investigating, learns the island is a hotbed of mermaid intrigue. She’s also grappling to understand the next spell, while she’s away from her coven. I love that each book in this series “grows.” Penny gets more intuitive as a PI, her investigations more targeted and professional. Thomas Edison Fulbright (aka Turkey, her familiar) provides whimsy and ace computer skills. Max is constant in his love. If she can only master the troublesome Freedom Spell, she’ll be closer to full fledged witchiness … and just might save the day, plus kick the pre-wedding jitters.

Penny continues to grow and change and now she’s getting married. She’s learned a lot but not how to relax on a vacation, so takes on a missing person case. This book is as good as the others before it, with an interesting story line and a twisty plot.
I received an advanced copy of this book and am leaving my honest review.

Max, Turkey, and Penny solve a case while on vacation
“A detective named Thomas Edison Fullbright, working with my assistant detective, Penny Banks.” I thought that was so adorable. It sure left Penny speechless. This book had several twists and turns. Max is getting more involved with Penny’s PI business. Penny completes the next spell in her book. Turkey goes flying and swimming and on interrogations. He also does his own thing. He is a very busy cat. Every book in the series contains a new spell that adds a new area of personal growth and empowerment for the knitting circle (Coven). This time they complete a spell individually. The characters show growth and every character in the book has a distinct personality. I recommend this book.

I don’t know how, but these books keep getting better and better with each installment! Amorette Anderson has created a unique and thought provoking type of cozy mystery. Yes, there are the usual murders, find the clues, solve it before the cops do, have a few laughs…but…there is even more to these stories. There is depth and the steps to each spell that has to be passed just make me rethink everything in my own life. Not many books can do that and still be so entertaining! Plus, Penny’s getting married to Max! It’s worth reading just for that alone! And mer-people…there are mer-people!

I have been with this series since the beginning and I have to say I love each and every book. Even though “The Case of the Freedom Spell” is not in Hillcrest and none of the other witches are in this story much, it was still a very pleasant read. This book focuses totally on Penny and Max’s relationship and marriage. I never got the feeling that their relationship really had any backbone until reading this one, only because the previous books focus on the witches and the spells that they have to conquer, with only passing comments about their partners. Turkey was his usual charming self. I loved reading about him being a Mer-Cat. As usual I can and will recommend Amorette Anderson’s books if you love witches in training, paranormals, familiars, and lots of mysteries to solve, then this is the series for you. I received an ARC from the author and am leaving an honest and unbiased review.

Filled with quirky characters, light paranormal situations (no horror stuff) and a good storyline, this series just keeps getting better and better. Penny is deepening her powers as a witch, learning the Freedom Spell without her coven to help, as she, her fiance Max, and her familiar Turkey vacation in the Florida Keys for their wedding.
Even though this is a lighthearted, fast-reading series, we learn something about ourselves with each book. Amorette has woven insightful lessons on human nature into each story, and here she shows how we need to nave the courage to accept ourselves (and each other) as we are.
Each book can stand alone, but is best read in order. Highly recommended!
I received an ARC from the author, and I liked it so much I also bought a copy!

Are you ready for Penny’s big day? That’s right she and Max have set a date…to elope. This is a fun cozy where the main character has an island adventure without the rest of her coven. Though most of Penny’s cases get her coven sisters involved, she has a mystery to solve with only Turkey’s help before her wedding.
Penny isn’t one to sit around idle and sudoku has no appeal to her. But her first glance at the island newspaper shows the picture of a girl, Maria, who has gone missing. That very evening Penny and Max meet the girl’s fiancé. He can’t afford to hire a detective, but they work out a barter and Penny is on the case.
It is only a few days until she and Max have their elopement ceremony. Will she have time to solve this mystery? It seems a fair number of the island’s residents are merpeople, including all those involved in the case. Could that have something to do with this disappearance?
The most likely suspect to Penny seems to be the island’s owner and Maria’s ex-boyfriend. He lives in a grand, guarded and gated beachfront house. To question him Penny first has to get onto his property.
As with most cases, Penny may have to complete her current cycle from the ASBW to figure things out. Now as she’s getting ready for marriage doesn’t seem like the right time to Penny for the Freedom Spell! Can one be free and totally committed at the same time?

Case of the Freedom Spell by Amorette Anderson is magic as the author spins her own spell to create another funny and quirky entertaining story. The characters and their relationships are the best parts. The perfect fun, relaxing, no stress read.
It’s time for Penny’s twelfth lesson in The Art & Science of Becoming a Witch (ASBW). But first there’s a wedding to go to. She’ll study her ABSW in her down time.
Penny and Max (and Turkey) are in the Florida Keys for their wedding and honeymoon. But no sooner than they arrive, Penny reads about a missing person, then on the way back to their bungalow that evening they meet the boyfriend of the missing woman. Penny just can’t pass up a mystery, especially a missing local young woman. As usual, her spell learning takes a back seat to her PI work. She’s finding out a lot of infornation, but can’t figure out how all the pieces go together. She may need to speed up her learning of the Freedom Spell to solve this mystery and save a life.
I can’t believe it’s the 12th spell already. I know there are 13 chapters in the ABSW, but does that mean that is only one more? NO — spell craft and life is filled with endless chapters.
I did receive an advance copy of this five-star story from the author and this is my honest review of this fun witchy cozy mystery.

Penny and Max went to a beautiful beach in Florida to have their elopment ceremony. So everything is looking sunny and happy, but Penny sees a newspaper article about a missing person. Well Penny just has to go find her. Max stays busy doing his daily running on the beautiful beaches. Turkey, Penny’s familiar goes and finds a group called the Naughty Familiars. So Penny goes sleuthing.
Penny is maturing and learning that her current new spell Freedom will help her solve her case.
I love this series because it’s funny, has intriguing clues, a sense of family and it’s a clean wholesome series.

Ahoy, witch way to the mystery!
I m a little disappointed that the magical citizens of this world are as screwed up as the rest of the world s citizens. I d almost hope that, I don t know, had evolved past the criminal acts.
After wishing I was back in the Keys ~ nice, warm weather, beautiful inviting sunshine, friendly natives ~ I know, got to get my head back to today in Yankee land and back to writing this book review.
Sooo: even though Penelope becomes involved with a local missing person case, I can envy her and her choice of vacation locations.
We get introduced to another type of magical beings ~ who sailors have known of for millennia ~ and who are as beautiful as they say they are sight wise. There are actual tourists and regular people in the book. So the magical beings can remain safely hidden from the headaches of life in the modern world.
The magical beings have a unique way to identify themselves to other magical people who stop by. { Sort of makes me wonder how many regular people will get a tattoo similar to what s described. If so, I hope that the tattoo was described different enough that the fakes will stand out < even though the written description does sound very beautiful (IMO) > so they can continue to remain hidden in plain sight.
Blimey, I could ve sworn that I had this one nailed. Oh well, you ll have to get this book to see where I screwed up my investigation. Probably that dynamite looking woman over there on the beach!
