What do you really, really want — more than anything else in the world? When Hillcrest’s only lawyer is found dead in her office, it’s up to Penny and her crew to track down the killer. Penny believes that the lawyer’s death might have been caused by a trouble-making magical being. The problem is, she doesn’t know which one! She can’t overlook the fact that her crush, a smokin’ hot vampire named … crush, a smokin’ hot vampire named Max, might be involved. And what about Silas, a beach-bum werewolf from the Water Realm who has recently moved to town?
With the help of her knitting circled turned witch coven, her feline familiar Turkey, and a blue haired witch next-door, Penny decides to collect the clues.
Could learning the Desire Spell help her crack the case?

How to enjoy The Case of the Desire Spell
1. The reader must bathe in a natural water source. If that is not available, a regular bath will do just as well 😉
2. The reader must be alone.
3. The reader must be clear about his or her desires.
4. The reader must practice intentional amnesia.
(Slightly changed spell LOL)
When there’s another murder Penny suspects magical interference. Would Max have something to do with it?
Let yourself be immersed in another fun book! Because this sure was fun once again! Let Penny and her merry band of misfits put a spell on you, as she has done on me.
This book is fantastic. I loved it. The fact it was a mystery made it an action packed mystery and I liked you never knew what was going to happen next. In my opinion, this book was a page turner. I loved Penny’s familiar.
I know some of you might look at the cover and just see a witch and a cat. That alone might make you turn away because of the witch but know this, Penny is one of those witches who uses her magic for good. She and her familiar are really funny.
My recommendation is this: I suggest everyone reads this book that can read. I loved it and would of rated more than 5 stars if I could. I don’t do that with too many books. Amorette Anderson did a fantastic job writing this book and can’t wait to read her other books.
Lots of unexpected things happen in this book! Both good and not so good but Penny resolves everything in her own unique way! Fun and entertaining as always!
I love the series by Amorette Anderson. Cozies are my favorite and I love how she describes Max. Penny is a wonderful character and Turkey is her perfect familiar.
Case of The Desire Spell is Book 3 of the Hillcrest Witch Cozy Mystery series. This as well as the preceding two books are very well written and has lots of well developed quirky characters. In this book Penny (MC) has four things going on:
1. Penny is informed by Turkey, her intelligent, telepathic familiar who is a cat, that she has only days to renew her PI license which is going to cost her as it is not cheap.
2. There has been a murder (her best friends boss) needing to be solved.
3. Disapearance of Penny’s BSBW as well as all the copies.
4. Accomplishment of the Desire Spell.
Can Penny renew her PI license on time; she and her cohorts solve the murder as well as find the missing BSBWs; and Penny achieve casting the Desire Spell? You must read the book so see if and how they are achieved. This is a light-hearted and interesting book and series to read and just to let you know it is best to read them in series. Doing so will add to your reading enjoyment. It will be interesting to see what adventure Ms. Anderson takes Penny and her cohorts next. This is an easy book and series for me to recommend. Received a copy and this is my voluntary and honest review.
Competence, Communication, Professionalism
Penny has to take her PI renewal exam. After the exam she finds a body. Then she discovers her spell book is missing. She learns that to get past the next spell she has to view desire in a new way. Penny has to find her book and solve the case. Turkey (her cat familiar) is getting smarter by the day. He is doing research on the internet and taking notes on Penny’s computer. Penny seems to be gaining competence as a Private Investigator. Her communication skills are getting better too. She still has a ways to go on becoming professional.
Penny discovers that her private investigator’s license is about to expire and she must take and pass a field exam. She doesn’t start the exam out on the right foot and soon discovers she is going from bad to worse, but someone she receives a passing score. Penny soon finds out that her investigator skills are needed close to home when the spell books and its duplicates are missing. What’s more a local lawyer is mysteriously killed and her crush vampire Max along with best pal’s werewolf beau Silas seem to be on the top of the suspect list.
As usual, a mystery has fallen into Penny’s lap and the biggest mystery is that she seems to once again solve it. I found myself laughing out loud, shaking my head with disbelief (Penny really is a horrible PI), and hoping that Penny can trust and learn the desire spell to help her solve the case.
” The Case of the Desire Spell- A Hillcrest Witch Mystery (Hillcrest Witch Cozy Mystery Book 3) – by Amorette Anderson is a tale of what happens when a PI/novice witch named Penny desires to solve the case of a murdered lawyer. Missing copies of the witch manual …men in her life…wedding/baby plans and PI license testing all pose troubling complications to solving the murder case…Fortunately her ever trusty familiar, Turkey…who apparently KNOWS more than that wise feline is telling …is ever supportive of Penny and her PI/witch endeavors. Who IS the killer…and what else is he/she capable of…and to WHOM…and more importantly WHY?!? Penny must answer these questions and soon. Are the newly arrived in Hillcrest magical creatures to blame…a regular Hillcrest local at fault…a conjured spell gone horribly awry?!?!? Turkey is not divulging what this clever cat has telepathically uncovered …at least not yet…and Penny’s coven and the rest of Hillcrest are looking to Penny for leadership and answers. So come along on this magical investigation and follow as Penny solves The Case of the Murdered Attorney “. Much enjoyed and Highly Recommended.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Penny to renew her PI license and it’s about to expire on Friday. Penny & Marley find Hiroku dead in her office. She ends up getting Silas arrested for murder & now needs to clear him. Penny can’t her witch training book then finds out Annie, Marley & Cora can’t find theirs either. Penny now has to find the missing books, clear Silas and find out who the killer is. A well written story with intrigue that leaves you guessing who is doing what. I received the book as an ARC and that you’re leaving an honest and voluntary review.
Penny is the bicycle-riding, lovable but bumbling PI learning to be a witch from a book — what could go wrong with that? Quite a bit, actually, and I loved and laughed at all of it. First she learns she has to take a test to renew her PI license, issued by the cheapest online PI school on the internet. She has only a couple of days to study for it, and the scenes as the instructor walks her through town are hilarious. Amazingly, she passes the test. Then she discovers the handbook that teaches her to be a witch has been stolen. Her combination knitting circle/coven members report that they, too, are missing the photocopied book Penny half given each of them. Very suspicious! And darn it all, they had only completed two spells and were looking forward to the third lesson, the Desire Speell. Could it relate to their amateur spell to close the portal to another world (see Book 2) in the hills above town? As Penny investigates the disappearance of the book, she also discovers the scene of a murder. So now she has a very full plate: a murder and theft to solve, a crisis if confidence regarding her PI abilities, an upcoming wedding and baby on the way for coven member Cora, an ex-boyfriend who seems to pop up when least expected, worry that she’ll never become a witch without the book, and her crush on hottie vampire Max, who seems to be crushing on her, too. When green smoke and bolts of lightning rise near the portal, she’s almost overwhelmed. Luckily, she can rely on telepathic wisdom from her cat familiar, Turkey, who remembers most of the Desire Spell and can search the web like nobody’s business. This series is clean, old-fashioned, madcap hilarity. While Penny does learn and grow in each book, I hope she stays an awkward bumbler — that’s her charm. Now … if only she’d get paid for solving a case …
This just gets better and to better. I may be addicted to Penny and her coven of witches. I can’t wait to see what is the next spell to learn.
Penny’s friend Cora has surprise news. Penny is again short of money as she has to renew her PI license. Turkey the cat is expanding his magical powers and Penny’s seem to be growing.
While each story is separate, I really recommend starting with the prequel and reading the series in order.
I have enjoyed all the book in the series so far. In the Desire Spell, the coven is growing stronger with each installment. The characters are fun and interact easily with each other. I especially like Turkey, her familiar; I keep trying to visualize him using the laptop without opposable thumbs. It does seem as if Penny should have realized sooner who the culprit is, but she gets there in the end and the ride is crazy as always. If you enjoy cozy paranormal mysteries, you will enjoy this series.
I received an advance copy of this book but the opinions are all mine.
I had a hard time getting in to it, but I kept going and enjoyed it.
I enjoy all of Amorette’s work.
How do I get a copy of that book. I want to be a witch too. I wonder what my desire would be for the Desire Spell? Changes every time i try to think about it.
This is my first in this series, so I can definitely say that this book can be read by itself (standalone). There is just enough to understand the past and entice you to go wan to go back and read the previous books. I especially wan to find out her familiar got the name Turkey.
This is a fast fun really cute cozy mystery. I loved it.
This is my honest and freely given review. I did receive an ARC book.
4 stars

Title:
PI needs to study
Well another book and another case. Starting with a refresher exam on Penny s PI work. On the way home from celebrating the end of the exam, she walks in on the case.
And so starts her investigation. She starts off with a small group of suspects, except she hasn t learned yet: To always assume that there is one or two more than you originally thought. You can always eliminate them from your investigation or other circumstances down the road, but it will usually save aggravation.
After arriving home, she discovered that someone took her ASBW book {My bet would be her exam instructor Nadia Thomas when she was waiting for Penny to change}.
By this point, you ll be able to think of at least one other person/suspect. She dances all around the extra suspect and yet she s totally oblivious to the person. She really needs to work on her PI skills.
Since one of the steps for the Spell of this book is to intentionally forget, is it possible that they ve all misplaced or lost their copies of the ASBW book for a reason?
Obviously Penny doesn know how to think like a crook. If the tape stretches -you unlock the door- duck under the tape, and go in. Unless Hillcrest is very unique, the door opens inward. It is supposed to be a town in Colorado. Scandinavian societies have doors that open outward as a rule.
Her former boyfriend doesn t believe in either witches or magic. Why does she try to explain it to him. Especially a police officer, who, if they are any good, are natural skeptics.
If anyone who is a police officer believes in either, they have to keep it buried or they ll lose their rank and position. If you do use everything you have grown up with, following your “hunches” is acceptable. However, back it up with solid police work.
So she gives her ex boyfriend one of her suspects and a very plausible case against him that doesn t require magic to prove in a court. Effectively throwing him under the jail for premeditated murder. The fact that she handed everything to a cop doesn t even enter her naive brain? Does she even have a brain?
How this will affect her friend and her pregnancy with her blabbering mouth is anyone s guess.
Why does Penny jump to conclusions? Especially with too little information.
It goes on from here, but you ll have to read it for yourself.
Live life,
John Shrek Walters
This, the third book in the Hillcrest Witch series, continues Penny’s adventures as both an amateur P.I. and a beginner witch just learning her craft.
Desire Spell narrates the trials and tribulations of Penny trying to renew her P.I. license in just a few days’ time, and solve the murder of her dear friend’s boss at the same time.
Fill of quirky characters involved in awkward situations, this will leave you smiling at Penny’s antics. Not to mention her familiar, Turkey the (very intelligent and telepathic) Cat!
A lighthearted, fast-reading series, each book can stand alone, but is best read in order. Highly recommended!
I received and ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review with my honest opinion. I like it so much, I also bought a copy!
Setting the tone with it starting off with finding a second corpse in less than six months the Wonky Inn owner is on a roll again. This was such a fun mystery it is one of those books that you want to share with someone. My granddaughter and I read it together and enjoyed every minute. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
A great book! These characters have become my friends and I can hardly wait for the next book in the series to come out so I can see what they get Into next!
It’s a terrific series that a reader will enjoy as a
normal everyday girl struggles with life and also continuing on her quest to become a witch. Plenty of laughs besides the serious business of finding the murderer in her town!
Give yourself a treat this Christmas season and start to read these stories by a wonderfully talented author. You will become “hooked” on her as I am.
Love this series of a newly formed group learning witchcraft
I recieved an ARC copy of this book for a fair and voluntary review. I love this series! It’s fun to watch Penny growing into her powers. Lots of mystery and craziness with Penny’s coven members. Plenty of Turkey (her cat familiar), and I’m loving where her relationship with Max the vampire is going. Good enough to read as a stand alone, but so much better if you have read the previous books!
