If you could banish something in your life, what would it be? When a local innkeeper calls Penny in to investigate a bloody paw print, Penny suspects that foul play is afoot. With the help of her telepathic cat, PI Penny takes on the case. One clue leads to another, and soon Penny suspects that magic beings could be causing the trouble! It’s up to Penny, with the help of her knitting circle, to … her knitting circle, to save Hillcrest.
At the same time, Penny and her coven of witchy sisters are learning the Banishing Spell. The problem is, it’s not really going well! In fact, it’s going terribly. Each attempt leads to worse results — until the sisters are tempted to give up altogether!
Can Penny banish trouble from her little mountain town?

fantastic!
Another installment in this quirky series that I LOVED! This was just right up my alley.
Penny has lots to learn and does that with the help of familiar Turkey. Oh sorry: Thomas Edison Fullbright, I keep forgetting LOL.
I thought it was wacky and crazy and fantastic!
Ms. Anderson has done it again. She continues with the story of Penny who is a witch-in-training and has her own PI business…well, she is the business because she works by herself. She does have help from her friends and fellow witches-in-training. This time, she is helping out the owners’ of the local inn in trying to find out why there’s a bloody pawprint inside the inn. While there, she discovers a dead man (werewolf). She then goes about hunting for the killer. This book contains witches, vampires, and werewolves, oh my. Read this series if you haven’t already.
With the death of the original protector of the Portal leading to other worlds, Penny and her coven took on the responsibility. Things aren’t as easy as they thought it would be, though, and beings from other worlds have been getting through without their knowledge. Now they’ve got to get serious and banish a killer! A nice fun read.
Another fun adventure for Penny and her coven! They are definitely growing their powers and keeping their town safe! I love Turkey! I wish I could have conversations with my cat. I love this series and am off to read the next book!
Penelope Banks, Private Investigator and Witch
In Training lives in Hillcrest in Colorado, with
her familiar, Turkey, the magical talking calico
cat.
Penny inherit the book called The Art and Science
of Becoming a Witch from the deceased witch,
Claudia Terra. Claudia guarded magical portal
that was just beyond her house on Hillcrest Pass.
Now the small town has become exposed to all
magical being of all shapes and sizes.
Penny and her coven are supposed to take over
guarding the portal.
Meantime several werewolves have crossed over
the portal. It was interesting learning about the
historical information between the evil white Lux
wolf and the good black Tenebris werewolves
and their lawful/unlawful habits from the five
hundred old vampire.
The Historical Society hosts an annual bonfire
dance. It will be held at the Hillcrest Inn.
The innkeepers find a bloody, muddy paw print
in the room a stranger is staying. Then the
stranger is found dead body. A knife is stuck in
his back. But did the knife kill him or was he
dead when stabbed??
All the Hillcrest Coven know is that they must
learn the Banishing Spell to keep Hillcrest safe.
Original plot with several subplots involving an
creatively, colorful, myriad of characters both
human and magical.
A Recommended Read with suspense, mystery,
humor and a touch of romance.
This book explains why it is important for a witch to have a familiar
Thomas Edison (Turkey) loves to read and he has a great memory. He is Penny’s cat and familiar. Penny is more of an action type person and less of a reader though she is intelligent and will read a book. I believe that like many people, Penny has attention disorder. She tends to lack focus and often goes off on tangents. She even realizes during this story that focus is very important to casting spells. This was a fun book to read.
Penny and her coven have completed the the first spell in the book and now it is time for the second one. Dawn and Neville hire her because a bloody paw print is found in one of the rooms and they think it is a wolf print. Later the man in that room was killed and Penny saw 2 men jump out of the window and change into wolves. There first and second attempt at the banishing spell isn’t very successful. An amusing story with good characters and women coming into their own power.
One of the most entertaining cozy mysteries I’ve read!
Penny and her knitting club are trying to become witches — through a how-to book they’ve photocopied so they can all reference during club meetings. They’re working on a banishment spell, but so far they’ve achieved a flour explosion and unfortunate baldness. When werewolves good and bad arrive in their little town via an unguarded portal from another realm, can their magic meet the challenge? The wanna-be-witches are all likeable with individual quirks. Among the townspeople are are a dishonest realtor, an evil animal-control officer and a murderer. Can their amateur magic stand up, or will it be “curses, foiled again?” This book is good, clean fun. I recommend it. Penny and coven are a hoot!
The Banishing Spell is a mystery to be solved by Penny and her cohorts, and you the reader. I found myself diving into this extremely well written tale by Amorette Anderson. If you’re looking for a good read and a book that takes you away for a few hours from the hubbub of the holidays this is a prime choice. I’ve fallen in love with the characters and particularly watching Penny grow as a witch and even more as a Private Investigator. Anderson shows real growth as an author between this and book 1 of the series, The Vanishing Spell. It is so often book 2 in a series that makes or breaks storyline and style and I have to say that Anderson has done well and has left me wanting more. I’m waiting…
” The Banishing Spell- A Hillcrest Witch Mystery Cozy Book 2” by Amorette Anderson is a tale of just where a bloody paw print can lead…..Will Penny Banks and her unusual band of cohorts succeed in “banishing “ the owner of the telltale pawprint…without awkward mishaps?!? And as the murderous investigation deepens …will Penny become a more seasoned witch with greater skills as a private investigator…as she probes the increasing likelihood of dangerous magical creatures calling Hillcrest their new hunting grounds?!? And what of her confusing love life?!? And what has Turkey to say about all of this crazed mayhem?!? Read this new installment of the Hillcrest Mysteries by Amorette Anderson. MUCH enjoyed and Highly Recommended.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
You could read this Book #2 in the Hillcrest Witch series out of order as things are sort of explained through the book, but you will have a better appreciation of things if you read the prequel and then #1 first. I love where the author is taking this series, seeing how this book went. Penny is faced with a lot here, both with a new murder that takes place while she is surveiling for what should have been a simple mystery and that she knows is caused by a magical being the police refuse to listen to her about, and things start to get shaky between her and Chris as she feels she needs to let him in on the new witch thing. Her coven is forced to rush into the banishing spell to take care of the situation themselves, which doesn’t go well at all at first. Things finally reach a major breaking point for Penny, and she starts to see why she is the way she is and begins to really grow up in this part of the story, both as a person and as a witch, and it’s a wonderful thing to see. Her cat, Turkey, of course is a big part of the story and makes it all the more enjoyable as he is really protective of his human. Really looking forward to seeing how the next book goes the way this one ends.
I received this as an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
The second book in the Hillcrest Witch Cozy Mystery series is well-written and one story that kept me turning pages I had to know who it was. I want to read the next book in this series. I received a copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
penny is growing again in new ways. New Love lives for all the coven or just 1 or 2. Can’t wait to see which spell Penny and the coven will learn next and will it help the passage
This is a great series! Each book gets better and better! Penny is finding out more about herself and coming to grips with things that have held her back in her life. She is evolving into a new person thanks to her friends and her powers as she is embracing ASBW.
Start at the very first book The Love Spell and follow the transformation yourself. It’s a great series that I know you will enjoy as each book builds on the previous ones.
I heartily recommend it to one and all. It’s the perfect place to escape to when we find ourselves drowning in nothing but bad news from the media.
Penny and her sidekick car are such wonderful characters. A fun book to read. I loved it….
I received this book as an ARC and my review is honest and voluntary.
Penny and her coven are progressing through their witch book. The banishing spell is the next lesson.
Penny is trying to make a living as a PI but funds are tight. She is called in by the Hillcrest Inn. They have found a bloody footprint in a guest room. The owner thinks he has seen wolves outside although there aren’t wolves in the area. Penny investigates and her coven begins to learn the new spell.
Great book!
I enjoyed this book a lot. I hope the next book is out soon. I could not put it down. It’s fun watching the coven nature into the witches they will be.
Absolutely, delightful paranormal cozy mystery! I love the smooth flow of the written word and how well the characters interacted throughout the book. This is a really great series and I am looking forward to additional books to enhance the already mystical magic involved in this series. I highly recommend this series to all who love paranormal cozy mysteries!
A really fun and entertaining book. Peggy and her knitting circle (aka coven) are such a great group of characters. They are doing their best to do the right thing and learn to be witches. This story is centered around protecting their town and they are in a world of trouble. Their fledgling powers result in some unorthodox results; they will have you laughing throughout the book. A truly enjoyable reading experience you will be glad you tried it.
