I really enjoyed this book! It’s about changes that are constantly happening in life and how overwhelming it can be at the time! Penny has a lot of changes coming her way. A witch’s who has recently become a vampire, a PI business and a move from an apartment she’s lived in her whole life! In this book Penny sets off to solve 2 murder cases! This book has wonderful characters who feel like they are your real life friend. She’s struggling to adapt to many changes in her life like people do every day. Aside from the magic this book deals with real world problems everyone faces! I loved the mystery part where it was paced perfectly. You couldn’t figure out who dunnit from the second chapter!i recommend this book, this series and this author!
Where else can you get a bit of philosophy, witty characters, a petting zoo’s worth of familiars and solve a murder mystery? Book after book in this delightful witch cozy delivers!
Penny’s coven, also her knitting circle, are progressing nicely on their way to becoming witches. They have been studying for a few months now, working on one spell cycle per month. Boy have all their lives changed!
Just to think, a few short months ago these ladies didn’t even know magic was real. Now Cora is near term with triplets and newly married to a werewolf. Marley, who has lived her whole adult life in her minivan, is now a millionaire, but hasn’t given up her lifestyle. Her serious beau is studying to become a vampire. The widowed Annie has found a new life with her live-in spirit boyfriend.
But Penny’s life may have changed the most. Not only is she becoming a witch, she is a new vampire too. Penny isn’t comfortable with all the changes that are happening. Her boyfriend, a vampire, has faith that Penny will work it all out, but Penny isn’t sure.
And with not one but two murder cases to solve, she just might be in over her head this time. The ladies are working on the Air Spell, and in the past, conquering each new spell has helped in all areas of their lives.
Can this new spell help Penny solve her cases? Will she start getting comfortable with her new life as a vampire? Can the ladies solve the case in time to free an innocent man?
Penny’s Tips for Getting your Suspect to Crack Open Like an Egg
Penny has become one of my favorite sleuths. And Turkey Werky one of my favorite cats / familiars! And let’s not forget the other familiars Blueberry Muffin, Skili and Ralph.
This installment is lighter again, after all we went through with the Water Spell. But it does have depth! It’s a good mix between light-hearted, silly fun and serious issues, in this case change. Cycle 9 in Penny and her friends’ witch book addresses change. The Air Spell. And as always it’s exactly what Penny and her friends need. Quote from Max: “When you begin to study Air Magic, you need to begin to accept change. The universe will give you plenty of practice material.”
Now that Penny is a vampire, she needs to be more careful about her nutrition. Ha! Penny and eating healthy? Hahaha! Good joke. She doesn’t even want to learn how to be a vampire, but learn she must. It’s a part of her now; she needs to accept it. But how?
So many things have changed for Penny, but one thing hasn’t: she’s still blunt. But maybe she isn’t as socially awkward as she once was. Go Penny! But no. Still blunt. LOL!
If Penny wouldn’t have Turkey in her life, she would never have progressed as much as she has. She wouldn’t study, would forget all her appointments… She likes to push everything under the rug but luckily Turkey is there to push Penny into action.
And those Death by Chocolate Cookies sound delish! But is the word ‘Death’ a bad omen? Just read it and I’m sure you’ll enjoy it as much as I have!!!
This book was fantastic just like the books in the series. Actually, I would rate this book 5+ stars. The books easy to read and a page turner.
Do I recommend this book? You Bet!! Everyone can read this book.
So Parents and grandparents and etc… if you’re leary about your kids and grandkids reading this. Don’t be because it’s clean and fun. However, if you’re concerned read the book yourself first. Also, remember this book is mild compared to the Harry Potter Series.
GO OUT AND BUY, BUY, BUY, BUY AMORETTE ANDERSON’S BOOKS.
Bonus: Recipe at end of book.
The next spell to learn in becoming a witch. Penny has many major changes to adjust to (read previous book to understand the reference). She has a lifestyle change, a murder to solve and convince the police department to let her help them.
I love that they got Lily to help but did not like that she did not honor her objections to magic. You go Lily. I was also hoping the Cora would deliver, but alas she did not but we got the delivery date. So next book?
Now NOTE that I may have been a bit off when I started reading this book: The reason I gave it four star is because I felt that Penny had grown with each spell, as is the the purpose of the spells, but in the beginning of this book, it felt like she backslide way too far. At one point in my comments to the author, I think I may have called her a whiny brat. Sorry. Now the next day, the book got better and Penny felt more like herself to me. I enjoyed the book more as I was finishing it.
This is my honest and freely given review. I did receive an ARC book.
I like watching Penny become more confident in her intuition and mature as a witch. She’s still on a path of many changes as are her knitting circle/coven friends, and they’re only about half way through their witch instruction manual. I also like to learn more about the other realms along with Penny. This has been a most interesting series, I look forward to the next books.
I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Peter is a collector of scarfs and a friend of Penny’s. One day, Peter’s scarf is found around his neighbour’s neck. A neighbour he has been fighting with. Peter is arrested but Penny and her knitting group feel he is innocent. So Penny wiggles her way into the investigation. But she has more than that on her plate, moving, a cold case, and finishing the Air Spell, oh and a little thing, she is now a vampire. Sound complicated, well it is.
What another wonderful cozy mystery from the A Hillcrest Witch Mystery Series. The characters that Anderson has created are intelligent, personable, interesting and slightly kooky. For those of us who have read the entire series so far, they are like old friends. The narrative is great and describes the dangerous and the funny situations that Penny gets her and Turkey into and the growth Penny is making in her life. I love the dialogue, it is witty, funny, and serious. The romance is still there as well. But cozy mysteries are about solving a mystery and this one is great, full of unexpected twists, surprising turns and personal and external barriers that keep you wondering exactly what happened until the end. All I can say is bring on the next book, I can hardly wait.
Excellent storyline. I have really enjoyed the series.
Easy reading and quick…Penny Banks is a private investigator in a small town which you would think it wouldn’t have any work for a PI but Penny is always trying to solve one or two mysteries. Penny is also a witch in training, a knitter (with her coven, witch in training, sisters) and a vampire (her boyfriend bit her to save her life). Things are never dull when Penny is around and her familiar, Turkey aka Thomas Edison, is so funny and lovable. Wish my cat was as smart as Turkey…and making me money!
If you want a light mystery this series is for you! I rather love a good cozy mystery and this series fills that spot..recommend
In the latest book of Penny Banks she finds herself faced with many changes in her life as a new vampire, to move from a home she has lived in all her life and continuing to grow as a witch. She soon finds herself working with the Hillcrest PD to investigate the murder of a very unpopular woman. With the help of her knitting circle coven and her familiar Turkey she tries to solve two murders and learn the Air Spell. With loveable characters and the right dash of humor and serious sections we find what I feel is the best book so far in the series. Ms Anderson has become one of my favorite authors with enjoyable characters and interesting plots. I just hope there will be more than thirteen books to the series.Highly recommended. I received an ARC copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.
Our favorite air head private investigator is at it again. And in addition to trying to solve a high profile murder case a ghost covinces Annie to take on an additional case. One that wasnt even considered a murder at the time.
Annie and the coven are learning a new spell that will hopefully help her to cope with all the new changes in her life.
This book is yet another fun murder mystery so be sure to add this one on your list.
There has been another murder and this time the public endorses Penny to work with the police department to help solve the crime. The Air Spell really helps Penny accept the very many changes that are going on in her life. With the help of her familiar Turkey (who likes to be called Thomas Edison) will Penny be able to figure out who killed Corinne? Penny works real magic in this one. I’m waiting impatiently for the next book in the series! I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
The case of the air spell:
Read this book about the changes Penny and Turkey are navigating. So fun!
Received an arc and I’m leaving an honest review.
I have read all the books in this series. The characters have all had personal growth. Penny is very resistant to change. With the help of her friends, boyfriend, and cat she learns to embrace change.
I received a copy of this book free for an honest review. I really liked it. Penny has grown with each book. She is overwhelmed with all the changes in her life. Her knitting friends are part of her coven and they are studying the Air spell—it is suppose to make accepting changes easier. Penny does not like changes. With 2 murders to solve ,one a couple years ago and a new one she needs to finish the spell and solve the murders . This is a great read and it is clean so everyone can enjoy it.There is a message in it but it goes with the story. with a fun group of people. I recommend this book and all the other books in this series. Alice
Penny is completely overwhelmed in this book with all that is going on at the same time for her, but the coven is working on the air spell, which teaches how to deal with changes. The Hillcrest police prove themselves incompetent as usual regarding a murder. This is another great book in the series and has a touching ending, after a pretty dramatic action scene involving the whole coven and their familiars.
Penny, Turkey and the gang are back again. This time the witches to be need to work on an air spell while solving a murder mystery and keeping their friend out of jail. I really love the cat, Turkey and his thoughts and responses to everything that happens. It is a lovely group of characters and they keep drawing you in for more.
I received an advance copy and am leaving my honest review.
“The Case of the Air Spell -Hillcrest Witch Cozy Mystery” by Amorette Anderson is the tale of what happens when the winds of change are arising and those that commit murders need to be gone. Don’t miss this latest installment of Penny & her trusty familiar Thomas Edison Fullbright aka Turkey …who together not only solve one mysterious murder…but two. Join Penny and the Terra Coven as they embrace The Air Spell ….sample the wares of the Hillcrest Farmer’s Market….and discover the delicious wonders of magical cuisine with family & friends. Much enjoyed and Highly Recommended…as usual.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Copy of this book.
Impermanence and an ice cream Sunday that is healthy and comes with a note
Penny is trusting her intuition more. Annie is the grandmother in so many ways. She keeps the coven on track, bakes yummy food, and keeps the peace when needed. This was a great read. It was fun and full of action. I could not put the book down. I had to find out what would happen next. The characters are all changing as they learn new things. Impermanence fits this series. I received an ARC and this is my honest review. However, I knew I would buy the book and I did because it is that good.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.. This series is a fun filled murder mystery ride.
Penny is such a little scatterbrained witch in training, and it’s part of what makes her so lovable.
Turkey her cat helps keep her focused though, so things usually work out for her haha.
With each book, you learn more about the other people and witches in Penny’s life.
This time Penny and her little coven of witches are learning the Air spell, and Penny is struggling with the feeling of having way too much on her plate.
There are life lessons to be learned in these books, all while laughing at the unique way Penny investigates crimes.
Another winner for Amorette Anderson!
I absolutely this this series. Each book keeps getting better and better.
Amorette Anderson is such a amazing Author.
