Sometimes a single flame can ignite a love that lasts a lifetime. Milo Phillips knows the meaning of pain. Suffering through the most intense physical agony of his life, he’s confined to a hospital bed to bear it alone. More than once, he wishes he’d died in the explosion that melted and mangled his skin. Darkness consumes him, snuffing all the joy in his life and leaving an empty hole in its … in its place.
But one day, a flicker of light sneaks into his hospital room, driving away some of the hopelessness. For the first time in months, pain isn’t all he feels.
The flicker’s name is Sara Foster, his new nurse. Milo just hopes that Sara can see past his scars. Because underneath, his heart has begun beating again just for her.

Once again Devney get us from the first page. Even though this book is a novella, you can feel all the motion of the characters, without thinking it was too short. From the first time I read the first book in the Jamison Valley Series, I’ve been waiting for Milo and Sara history, and it is everything I could hope. From discovering the meaning of title, to seeing their relationship blossoming. Put together a forbidden love story, a little mistery hinted in the prologue, and a swoon worty hero, and we have a beautiful love history to read in one sitting. If you read the Jamison Valley Series, this one is a must read, and if Devney is a new to you author, this novella can be a good start point.
I really loved the way Devney Perry told Milo and Sara’s story. It was storytelling within the story. I was sucked in immediately. The dynamic between these two was a slow build that was completely worth it. My heart broke for Milo and all the pain he had to endure during his recovery. Sara was an amazing nurse. I adored her relationship with Luna. It really showed Sara’s compassion and level of care she provided as a nurse. I loved the idea of The Candle Palace and what it represented. This was a beautifully written love story. I absolutely love this series and all the characters.
I love this world that Devney Perry has created for her readers. These are characters that I have fallen in love with and love reading about them. This is a shorter story than her other books in the series but still gives us all the feels! This is a story more about two people’s journey towards love. It’s how two people found each other when they were least expecting it. It’s not a story filled with kidnappings, mafia, and drug lords but it’s their story and one that I thoroughly enjoyed.
This is the story I’ve been waiting for! Milo has been a favorite of mine since he was first introduced in The Coppersmith Farmhouse. And after what happened to him in that story, I so needed the backstory of how he and Sara met. The Candle Palace gave me exactly what I needed!
Milo had been caught in a pretty bad explosion in The Coppersmith Farmhouse. Because of that he was brought to The Candle Palace (a wonderful nickname for the burn unit at a hospital in Spokane). Right from the start, Sara, a nurse in the burn unit, felt a connection with Milo. Likewise, Milo felt it, too. While they started off as patient/nurse, they soon formed a friendship. But because of the professional relationship that they had, they had to fight their feelings.
Holy cow! I absolutely loved The Candle Palace! I loved how strong Milo was- how he handled his injury so maturely, how he evolved so well from the beginning of the story. And Sara- I loved how caring she was with her patients (not just Milo, but Luna as well), how she was strong enough to see Milo for more than his injury.
As usual, Devney Perry has written such a wonderful story. Her stories always delve deeper than what’s expected, and always have a twist in there that keeps you on your toes. I am so sad to see the Jamison Valley series end, but feel wonderful knowing that all of the characters have a complete story told.
I highly recommend The Candle Palace, and the entire Jamison Valley series- it’s one of my all-time top series!
Oh, and I understand that #MiloforAllyson!

“….you’re not plain. Or Dull. You shine…”
I’ve really come to love and enjoy reading this author’ books and she’s definitely become a one-click author for me. In this novella book we get the background story of how Sara and Milo met. I still need to read the others in this series but can’t wait to see what’s next in store!
Sara’s been working as a nurse and even though her job sometimes takes a toll on her, she’s there for her patients. When she has to take care of a new patient, Milo, there’s something that draws her to him but she can’t risk to cross a line as there’s a hospital policy in place. Every day they seem to get closer and it’s getting harder to keep their distance. Will they have their happy ending?…
Oh my stars. This story. My heart just melted as you get to know what brought Milo and Sara together. My heart broke at moments through this story because of what people pull on these two. I love the caring nature of Sara and how much she gives of herself to her work. I could not imagine how tough it would be to do the kind of job that Sara does as a nurse. Then you have Milo who had been through something so traumatic, but found light, a candle if you will, in the darkness with Sara. As these two get to know each other, the draw to each other gets deeper. With these little twists and turns plus jerks and witches thrown in their path, you really get an in depth feeling of how things happened for these two.
Overall, this is a brilliant addition to the Jamison Valley series. I loved getting to know these two side characters from previous novels who stole my heart. Their love, their passion and so so much more between them. My heart was bursting by the end and I really did not want it to be over. If you are a lover of this series, you will adore this book!
First off, The Candle Palace is most definitely a novella that could pass as a full book so all the great big giant hoorays for that because I was in heaven reading this. Secondly, oh my heart. The Candle Palace, like all of Devney’s writing is so emotional and moving you’re guaranteed to have tears more than once from the beauty of it.
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Milo and Sara have such an incredible story, but I was surprised by how I loved their story so much they became one of my favorite Devney Perry couples ever. Their love is so sweetly beautiful and all they had to work through to become the amazing couple they are didn’t once effect how strong the feelings they had for each other were.
4.5 SWEET AND HEARTMELTING STARS!!!!
I still have the cheesiest smile on my face as a write this!
Ever since TCF I’ve yearned for Milos story and Devney didn’t disappoint.
We got to see our broken man fall in love and it’s such a beautiful, heartfelt story because it felt real. We didn’t get the popular bad boy or the glamorous, perfect girl. We got two real and flawed characters who found each other and fell in love.Sara and Milos love is the kind of love story that will have you smiling and feeling good for days.
Reading The Candle Palace by Devney Perry was bittersweet. Sweet because it’s a D.Perry book and easily exceeds all expectations.
And bitter because one of my favorite series’ of all time comes to an end. The Jamison Valley Series consists of 6 books. Every book is about another couple and can easily be read as standalones. For best reading experience I recommend to read the books in order. The previous books are The Coppersmith Farmhouse; The Clover Chapel; The Lucky Heart; The Outpost and The Bitterrroot Inn.
The Candle Palace is Sara and Milo’s heart wrenching story. I will not spoiler here, only so much the story had me in knots and I was captivated from chapter one. I read the book, cover to cover , in one sitting. The Candle Palace is a nailbiting, unputdownable read that kept me in suspense from start til the end. I cn’t express how much I love the storyline, the excellent writing and the characrs, don’t let me start with them. They gave me all the feels and I was in a roller coaster of emotions while reading this outstanding book.
I highly recommend the book and the series and give 5+ stars.
Wow!!!! What an amazing 5 star story this was. A combination of forbidden romance and some intrigue.
Sara is a nurse who works in a burn unit. Milo is a patient of hers. This is their story.
I basically read this story in one sitting. Once I started, I was hooked. It was a very captivating and highly addicting story. Characters that made me fall in love with them. This was a beautifully written story with a storyline that flowed well. It didn’t feel like a novella because the storyline and characters were well developed. Bottomline this is a must read.
Standalone told in a dual POV with an HEA. I strongly recommend this story.
Holy moly, this one was totally 5 swoon worthy stars! My only complaint is that I want more! Absolutely loved finally getting Milo and Sara’s story!
As a longtime fan of author Devney Perry, I always get excited when I see that a new book is coming our way. Although I love all of her books, when it’s part of a beloved series, a new release is even more special, because I get to revisit the places and characters that I know and love. With the release of THE CANDLE PALACE, Devney brings her Jamison Valley series to a close, and she couldn’t have picked a better book to end with.
I absolutely adore Sara and Milo. Talk about Fate putting two people together that really need each other. Sara is light to Milo during his darkest days, and, when roles reverse, he is her strength when she really needs it, allowing her to find her voice and to stand as a woman unafraid to speak her truth. Devney has a way with words, breathing a life into her stories that make them heartfelt and relatable. I experienced every emotion, Milo’s pain, then determination, Sara’s sadness, then joy. There is nothing about this story and these characters that I did not love, and their story was ‘unputdownable.’
An easy 4.5 stars, THE CANDLE PALACE is a welcome addition to these books that have become some of my favorites. Although it can be read as a standalone, if you haven’t read the rest of the series, now is the perfect time. These books will find a special place in your heart, I guarantee.
I loved everything about this “Devney novella!”
Sara, a nurse working in the burn unit, is the most kind and caring nurse you want on your team. There are rules against having relationships with patients but what happens when she feels an instant attraction to Milo, who just survived an explosion with many burns that need tender care?
I loved their love story, finding out from the very beginning how they found each other. They have the perfect mix of angst, drama, romance, and love in their journey to a happily ever after. Their story is raw, emotional, and takes place in a unique setting that made me fall in love with, and root for them even more!
Now, I have to admit something. I haven’t read the rest of the Jamison Valley series yet. I own them all and I can’t wait to dive into all of them as soon as possible. I’ve read all of this author’s other books and love them so much! With that said, you can absolutely read this story as a stand alone. I wasn’t confused or lost at all. It just made me want to read the other books as quickly as I can!
Grateful to have received a complimentary ARC copy to honestly review.
4.5 stars
During a spa evening with the girls, Sarah shares the events at the Candle Palace, the nickname for the burn ward where she worked and Milo was a patient. Series readers knew they met during Milo’s time recovering from severe burns, and that when Milo returned to town, Sarah came with him. But we hadn’t seen what they felt or did in their time in Spokane.
I really enjoyed this quick glimpse of how Sarah and Milo came to be, as well as a bit of the daily grind they face. The events from the past still color their present, as evidenced by the argument that sent Sarah from the house frustrated. Most of the story takes place in the past though, as told from Sarah’s perspective. I loved watching as she and Milo navigate both his healing journey and the first tentative steps of their relationship. Sarah is rightly hesitant to encourage anything with Milo, as he is her patient, but I liked how she kept a line between her role as his nurse and the developing feelings between them.
Milo and Sarah’s story is sweet and a little forbidden, with just enough drama to keep things moving along. I didn’t know I needed their story. I’m one of those readers who sees a side character story and doesn’t need all the gritty details, but now that I have read The Candle Palace I can honestly say I needed this story! Milo and Sarah are both quiet, behind the scenes kinds of characters, and seeing their story take center stage is a thing of beauty. The Candle Palace as a setting isn’t as comfortable as their homes, nor is Milo as alpha as many of the men from his hometown, but these two shine together — their genuineness, their care for others, and their protective natures.
I adore this book so much! I’ve been hoping that Milo’s story would be told and now it’s here and even more than I could have expected. I completely fell in love with Milo and Sara reading The Candle Palace.
“I would have said yes.”
The corners of his lips turned up. “If you had said no, I would have kept asking. For a guy who’s been shot down more than once, I’m pretty gun-shy. But for you, I would have tried a million times. I’ve got a hell of a crush on you, Sara Foster.”
After Milo was badly injured in an explosion, Sara is his nurse at the burn unit. Milo is at a very low point but Sara’s caring and understanding get through his gruff and tough exterior.
“Sara?” he murmured.
“Yes?”
His hand patted around the bed, searching for mine. When he found it, he held it tight. “What are you doing for Valentine’s Day?”
I smiled. “Sneaking into your room.”
I love that this novella isn’t so short to feel like a rushed story. It is a full and complete romance. The Candle Palace can be read as a standalone. Even though you get little glimpses of characters from previous books, this book doesn’t give any spoilers to the other stories.
-5+ Stars!-
‘The Candle Palace’ is the sixth book in the Jasmine Valley series by Devney Perry. It is the first actual book out of this series that I have read, and can definitely be read as a stand-alone.
The book is about Sara Foster, a nurse who works on the burns unit. She puts her patients first, and treats them like family and becomes attached easily. She lacks love in her life so finds it in the comfort and the conversations of her patients, and forms soft spots for patients such as a teenage girl Luna, and injured cop Milo.
Sara wants to help ease people’s suffering and brings joy to them in their times of need. She goes above and beyond, but unfortunately starts blurring the lines.
Milo is intriguing, brooding and completely bedridden after a horrific explosion. He is frustrated in his situation, and does not want to be in the hospital more than what is necessary. Sara brightens his day and he finds it hard not to want to see her, to talk to her and learn more about a woman who intrigues him. But the more they try to hide their budding friendship, the harder it becomes to keep it professional.
I loved this book, it was unique in setting and topic, and it brought a story of so many layers to life. I enjoyed learning about Luna, and even Sara’s family life kept me reading.
I love Perry’s writing style, and I read this book all in one sitting. It is a sweet romance novella, and perfect for anyone wanting a quick romance to read, and something out of the ordinary.
I LOVE MILO.
This novella was BEAUTIFUL, I wish the book would’ve been longer tho, I didn’t want Milos story to end.
The Candle Palace was PERFECT.
I cannot describe how much I loved Milo. Sara and Milo are goals, their story was like a fairy tale. I loved the chemistry, the innocent love, the magic. while I was reading this book, I just couldn’t stop swooning over these two. Milo had the biggest heart, and Sara was as amazing as Milo. I loved these two so much
This book is one you won’t forget about. Where can I find myself a Milo?
Ok, I’m going to admit I haven’t read any of the Jamison Valley series before this book. I’ve read other books by her and absolutely LOVED them, so when I seen this one I was like oh yeah, I want to read this. Well now after reading and loving this one, I need to now read the rest of this series!!!
In this book we get to read about Milo and Sara and where they are now in life and where it all started. It always hasn’t been easy circumstances for these two. They’re both so sweet and so easy to fall in love with them.
When the times were rough for Sara, Milo was there for her. He made everything alright and showed her how it could be if she could take a chance on them. He’s so sweet!!
This book is very sweet and so very sigh worthy.
4.5 stars…I have been interested in Milo Phillip’s story since the series began. And in this one, we get a peek at the future followed by a look back into the past.
Milo Phillips was a deputy in Prescott, Montana who was a good guy, but usually overlooked by women. He was a reliable friend, loyal, and honest. But when he is injured, he ends up in a hospital in Spokane undergoing a difficult recovery. He is angry, hurting, and feeling guilt and hopelessness.
Sara Foster is a hardworking nurse that sees herself as plain, dull, and a homebody. Her family life has not helped her sense of self-worth. She truly cares about her patients and that has been enough for her.
This is more a book about regular people in a challenging circumstance. They both struggle with their attraction and connection to one another. Sara brings comfort, peace, and light to his darkness. Something about Milo’s strength and heart calls to her soul. He makes her feel beautiful and special. She takes away his pain and gives him hope. They know they should follow the rules since there could be consequences, but it is hard. And they can only hide for so long.
This novella is not as action-packed or suspenseful as some of the books in the series, but there is some angst and drama. It is more of a sweet, heartfelt, forbidden, nurse-patient, slow-burn, friends-to-love story. I adored this couple, their big hearts, and their full love story. And I enjoyed getting more in the future with the Jamison Valley girls. And the side character of Luna just sparkled off the pages as well.
