Sometimes a single flame can ignite a love that lasts a lifetime. Milo Phillips knows the meaning of pain. Suffering through the most intense physical agony of his life, he’s confined to a hospital bed to bear it alone. More than once, he wishes he’d died in the explosion that melted and mangled his skin. Darkness consumes him, snuffing all the joy in his life and leaving an empty hole in its … in its place.
But one day, a flicker of light sneaks into his hospital room, driving away some of the hopelessness. For the first time in months, pain isn’t all he feels.
The flicker’s name is Sara Foster, his new nurse. Milo just hopes that Sara can see past his scars. Because underneath, his heart has begun beating again just for her.

Devney never fails to deliver and The Candle Palace is no different in this series finale. She delivers with the emotion and angst and leaves you with a story you won’t soon forget.
The series finale from Devney Perry is LIVE! Time to binge! <3
An emotional small-town romance to round out this series, THE CANDLE PALACE is a story you won’t want to put down.
I was so excited when Devney announced that there will be another story in the Jamison Valley series because this is a series you just have to love. Milo and Sara‘s story is short but definitely a good one.
Devney Perry delivers all the feelings in her very own unique style and my heart couldn’t be more happy with it.
Only thing is… Now I want a story about Sara‘s brother Denny because what happened in the book practically screams that he needs his own book.
If you love the series, you definitely need to read this one. It’s like coming home and seeing old friends again.
I love Devney’s small town love stories! They’re full of angst and all the emotions!! You’re going to love The Candle Palace! Dive in!
Ok wow The Candle Palace was everything and more that I was hoping for loved everything about this book Devney Perry is truly amazing she has written some of my favorite stories including this one . This is book six in the Jamison Valley series and can be read as a standalone but I do highly recommend that you read them in order ( you will run into a spoiler from book one ) . Ever since Milo was introduced in The Copper smith Farm house I just couldn’t wait to get my hands on his story I’m so happy the author wrote how he found his happy ending . Milo was like every hero in this series loved everything about him and just the way he was with the heroine she really needed him . I really liked Sara she was remarkable , kind , and selfless she would be the kind of nurse I would want . I can’t wait to read more by one of my favorite authors she just knows how to tell a story were her readers feel everything that the characters feel and I just want more so excited for future reads .

Stunning!!
This book was a pure joy to read. For a “novella”, it read like a complete novel.
Well developed characters, complex and rich story with an uplifting message. Told in dual POV, past and present, this is Sara and Milo’s story.
Their story is about how they met, and how the Candle Palace was responsible.
But when Sara meets Milo, despite their immediate attraction, they cannot act upon in without serious repercussions.
Are they willing to take the risk?
These characters were flawlessly developed. Realistic and relatable, they were perfectly imperfect and how their relationship developed was full of ups and downs and unexpected twists!!
Honest, down to earth and soft spoken, their strength and their sexiness came from their conviction to go after what they wanted.
Indeed there’s a new sheriff in town and his name is Milo. He met his match in Sara.
Both are willing to fight and sacrifice for what they want, but at what price?
The Candle Palace is a magical place where good things happen out of tragedies, even when the odds are stacked against you.
Now we need Luna’s story!
4.5 stars!
You know how they say that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover? Well, you shouldn’t judge it by its length either (and no sexual innuendo meant there…well, maybe…). Just when everyone thought the Jamison Valley series came to a close after five full-length novels, Devney Perry returns to the small Montana town of Prescott to share one final love story. The Candle Palace may “only” be novella in length, but the story waiting for readers–whether you’re a fan of and familiar with the Jamison Valley series or are either new to the author or have yet to venture into the series–is one that’s bound to not just satisfy any romance reader but to leave a lasting impression.
With two highly likable main characters and an inspiring story of finding love while facing personal adversity, this book was everything a love story should be, and yes, it does have a beautiful happily-ever-after. There are countless books that are part of a series and touted as standalones but then you end up feeling like you’ve missed something if you never read the previous books. With The Candle Palace, however, you can truly jump right in without having read any of the other Jamison Valley novels and not be hit with that feeling of cluelessness. I should know–I have yet to read the first five books, although I do have three of them already waiting in my tablet.
Having read Devney Perry before, I already knew I had nothing to worry about in terms of the quality of writing, yet this author never fails to still take my breath away with every new romantic tale she weaves. It was easy to fall in love with Milo and Sara and even easier to be drawn into their story and be so invested that even though you know they end up together, you get all the feels and le sigh moments. Through the trials and triumphs of Milo and Sara’s story, Perry never gives her readers reason to worry these two will not end up happily. They aren’t perfect individuals and neither is their relationship, but they are perfect together. Five-plus stars go to The Candle Palace.

I’ve been waiting for this forever and I am so so glad Devney wrote this novella. Milo deserved his own story and happy ending. And it was a great one at that.
Sara and Milo’s relationship was so darn sweet. I love the stolen glances and how Sara was such an important part of Milo’s recovery. The forbideness of their connection brought on the angst just as Sara’s past with her family. I felt so much for these two. They were both going through a hard patch and were each other’s solace.
And I truly loved how this story was told! Devney continues to surprise me and captivate me with her stories and they way she tells them. She makes me fall in love with her characters from the very beginning and she’s also a master at writing secondary characters. I loved this novella so much. It was the perfect ‘ending’ to this series, you get to catch up with everyone and get a new beautiful love story that will absolutely melt your heart.
This is a little gem in the Jamison Valley collection. It’s sweet and short and very complete. I loved the reference of the Candle Palace, given to the burn unit by a teenager patient called Luna, where she sees each patient as a candle and has her room filled with battery tea lights as a way to face her fear of fire. This is an example that showcases the author’s ability to show so much heart in her stories. I found this one detail delightful within this story.
Sara arrives to a girls night out with her besties, where they get spa treatments all together. She’s grumpy and depressed because she got into a fight with her husband about her mother. She has a complicated relation with her mother, who in the story we learn is selfish and self-centered. When her friends ask her for details, she tells them the story of how she met Milo in the Spokane Sacred Heart Hospital. Sara was a nurse in the burn unit and Milo was a burn patient.
The story was beautiful, as all Devney Perry’s stories, with a lot of heart, compassion, family troubles and sexy times. There’s an itty bitty bit of tension coming from a too-friendly doctor, some irritation from a demanding and selfish mother, and great technical details about burn treatments. I loved how the love developed between Milo and Sara. Sara has such a compassive nature and a soft touch when she treated her patients that Milo fast got attached, same as Luna, her other favorite patient.
In spite of the short length, the story felt complete, conflicts and all, and it was such a satisfyingly warm hearted story to read. I loved reading how the love flourished between Milo and Sara, starting with Milo’s need and attachment to his nurse, who was so kind and understanding. Sara, for the first time in her career, had to fight attraction to a patient, had problems controlling glancing at her patient’s very attractive physical assets (wink, wink).
The way the story flows, the way we so quickly get attached to the characters and understand them so completely, and the way we get immersed into the story and root for the characters’ HEA are the reasons why I like this author so much. There’s a lot of heart in her stories and I’m addicted to them.
The Jamison Valley series is one of my absolute favorites! And I was so happy to learn Milo and Sara’s story was going to be told! And it’s everything that I wanted and more!
I loved the balance between the present and the past. That the love between Milo and Sara started so strongly and has defined their relationship from the start. That something so beautiful and wonderful could rise from such a tragedy and difficult time.
And I absolutely loved how The Candle Palace reminded me that love really and truly is blind. That love doesn’t notice scars and other imperfections. And that’s evident between Milo and Sara—she doesn’t see the scars, she sees the man beneath the exterior and loves that his scars don’t define Milo, they prove his strength and devotion. And this “blindness” is also shared in Milo’s love for Sara. He couldn’t help falling in love with her and her beautiful heart. He finds her beautiful inside and out.
And that, my friends, is what I call marriage goals. Finding that one person who loves you for you. Loves you despite your faults or imperfections. The Candle Palace is a love story—true enduring love and I hated for it to end.
For fans of the Jamison Valley series, I know I’m not alone in saying I’ve been waiting for Milo & Sarah’s story FOREVER! Thankfully Devney Perry finally delivered, and it was everything I hoped it would be!
We all know where and when they met, but we finally know how it happened and why they ended up back in Jamison Valley. I absolutely adored these characters, their journey to love and happiness, and the strength they each showed during such a devastating time. There’s something about a slow burn romance, watching that love build-up and just waiting for them to finally give in. While Milo & Sarah’s story isn’t your typical slow burn, it was even more rewarding.
While I absolutely loved this story, I do have one major complaint – it was way too short! I went in knowing it was a novella, but I fell deeper in love with Milo & Sarah then I expected, and I need more! Their story is so beautifully written, I couldn’t put it down and am holding out hope that one day we will get more from these characters!
There are times when fate plays a huge part in placing you at a defining moment in your life. For Sara – working as a nurse in the burn unit weights heavy on her heart. The empathy that Sara exudes for her patients goes far beyond a time clock. Each person’s rehabilitation extends beyond the painful treatments and scars. Sara wants nothing but the best for each of her patients during their time in the burn unit.
One patient that entered the hospital for treatment would eventually lead Sara on a path that she never thought possible. Milo had injuries that left even the most experienced nurse struggling to deal with his treatment. With painful steps necessary to treat his burns, Milo found himself looking towards the nurse who had become the savior in the darkness. As the nurse and patient found themselves thrown together through the pain and treatment, an attraction began to grown although it was considered unethical. Where would their paths lead through the sorrow and pain?
Returning to Jamison Valley is always a treat for the senses and the heart!! Sara and Milo’s story is one that will touch your soul. The tragedy that has brought the two together was written in a way that will make you believe you are privy to their interactions. I found myself absorbed in every nuance of the pain and attraction. Milo truly was the epitome of a soul mate for Sara, and this novella captures every aspect of that touching time when their love was just beginning.
Simply put – the Candle Palace is a wonderful compliment to a series that tugs at your heart strings. This novella was a great addition that gave depth to the story of how Sara and Milo began their romance. I love every story that involves the residents of Jamison Valley, but Sara and Milo have definitely pushed to the top of the list!
When the only complaint you can come up with at the end of a book is that you want more, I mean…that’s basically a compliment.
And that’s exactly how I feel having turned the last page of The Candle Palace. Don’t get me wrong, this is a full story and I do not feel cheated out of anything. But I loved Milo and Sara and would have liked more time with them, done a little bit of a deeper dive with them, simply because I loved all the ways they made my heart happy.
I make no secret of the fact that I love a wounded hero and Milo was one of the best. I loved the slightly forbidden dynamic of their story, and the sort of desperate way that caused their feelings to bloom. I loved that they didn’t get in their own way, and I loved how steadfastly loyal they were to each other when life obstacles came at them.
I just…loved them. And I loved how this (long) novella rounded out the Jamison Valley series. How many times can I use the word “Love” in one review? Did I make myself clear?!
In all – it’s a relatively simple, sweet, and super quick read – but your heart will thank you for the time spent with these fantastic characters in the end!
SOUL. This book can be summed up in one word it’ll be Soul! It’ll knock on the door of your heart and just echo in it for a long time. This much I can guarantee, you won’t be able to put the book down and you will miss it the moment you finish it.
Beautiful Sentiments that explore oceanic depths, Real Love which climbs new heights, goes behind superficial facades and false colors of first impressions.
“I don’t see scars when I look at you. I see a man who makes me feel safe. A man who makes me feel wanted and sexy. You don’t have to hide these scars from me. They don’t scare me.”
Devney delves deep in the matters of the heart, shows us deeper connections that link the soulmates. They could be blind and still attach, such is the magnetic attraction that pulls Milo Phillips and Sara Foster, when they meet for the first time in the Burn Unit of Sacred Hearts Hospital in Spokane.
Nicknamed The Candle Palace by another beautiful patient, Luna, cause she considered herself a candle-A Human Torch. And Sara brought her tea lights of hope.
The least glamorous place to begin a love story which deviates from every known norm prescribed in the Romance fiction.
“Here, it was easy to pretend there wasn’t an entire hospital that had walls, one with rules and reprimand. Here, it was just two strangers keeping one another company. Here, we were two new friends quickly becoming….more”
The hero is not a strapping hulky alpha with 6 pack abs. He’s right now lying in a hospital bed with a concussion, lacerations and half his body burnt and melted skin to reveal muscle and tissue inside
This type of love can only be described as divine and courageous. It takes strength of spirit to look beyond devastating good looks and fall for the actual personality which is a human mix of vulnerablity & awkwardness. Devney cleverly doesn’t embellish the story with unnecessary grand gestures or flowery lines. It doesn’t need it. The story is pure and powerful, it shines through brilliantl
The setting of the story is unique and unusual, So REAL and humane, I was totally dumbfounded and awestruck. Devney has become my instant one click author. The story not only pulled at my heart strings, it strum them to make wonderful music. I need to go read the Jameson series and will do so soonest.
Meanwhile you must read this wonderful story asap.
5 stars for choices of Life
This amazing full bodied novella is everything a Jamison Valley fan could ask for. It’s really time for Milo and Sara’s beautiful and emotional story.
Make sure you have enough time to finish this once you start reading because it will grab you from the first paragraph and you won’t be able to put it down. Get ready for intrigue, emotion, and happily ever after.
Thank you Devney for giving us this amazing parting gift to finish out our love of the Jamison Valley series.
The Candle Palace is so sweet and heartfelt. I really love Milo’s story! It is mostly told from Sara’s point of view but that made it even more romantic to me.
Out of a horrible tragedy came an incredible romance. My heart is so full for them. Their love story is one I won’t forget and recommend to everyone.
Thank you so much Devney for giving us Milo and Sara’s love story. This can be read as a complete standalone but I highly recommend the whole Jamison Valley series.
5 Getting Their Happy Ending Stars!!
I’m a lover of all things Jamison Valley and the fact that we got this wonderful surprise of going back to the place I love was a true treat. We’ve all met Milo and Sara in the previous books but to finally get their story gave me ALL THE FEELS.
Ms. Perry has written a book that is touching, heartfelt, captivating and with just the right amount of angst. Sara is a woman that didn’t have a perfect childhood but she was well loved by the most important person in her life and when there was void left in her life when the love was lost, Milo Phillips helped wash away her loneliness. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a idyllic first meeting for our H/h but from the very start, their was a pull towards each other. I LOVED how they didn’t ignore it either.
For his part, Milo is a man that is holding onto some guilt as to why he’s in Sara’s hospital and let me tell you, even with the attraction he’s feeling towards Sara, he can be a bit surly at times. And I don’t blame him. His life is forever changed by what brought him to Sara’s unit and the residual effects of his actions.
While Milo and Sara are navigating their feelings and facing some challenges, there’s some outside influences and actions of others that could be their demise! I’m not going to lie, I wanted to junk-punch a few people LOL!!!
What it all comes down to is that Ms. Perry has given us our return to Jamison Valley in one of the best ways possible with little snippets of what’s happening after we last saw the townsfolk of this idyllic valley and I’m really hoping that we get to visit again and very soon!!! Make sure to pick this book up because it’s an absolute MUST READ by one of my absolute favorite authors!
This return to Jamison Valley is just what I needed. Milo and Sara were always in the periphery of the other books so I was thrilled to get their story. Devney Perry gave me such a sweet slow-burn with The Candle Palace (which is quite impressive since this is a novella).
They met under tragic circumstances, with Milo at his worst. But the moment he laid his eyes on Sara, something else flipped. He started to shed the anger and blame, guilt and brood and show the man he had always been. The kind and strong and gentle man that couldn’t stop thinking about the sweet and shy woman that wouldn’t let him keep hurting himself. I loved his vulnerability and that Sara didn’t take advantage of it.
It was in the stolen moments, the quiet at the end of the day that they really got to know each other. But time wasn’t on their side. Milo was healing and would be headed home… With a touch of the forbidden, a wack-a-doo boss and delusional mother Milo and Sara were up against a lot. But they knew wholeheartedly what they felt was real and would withstand the challenges.
THANK YOU Devney Perry for giving me (and all fans of the Jamison Valley series) this book. The Candle Palace was a true romance dream. Milo and Sara’s love story was sweet and heartwarming. It was two ordinary people being extraordinary together. Finding their way together. Tasting love together and basking in all its glory.
The Candle Palace was such a wonderful suprise and great addition to The Jamison Valley Series. The Candle Palace might just be a novella, but this story certainly packs a punch. It will keep you on your toes and your eyes glued to the pages…
The Candle Palace follows the story of Milo and Sara. I really loved the way the author decided to tell Milo and Sara’s story. We start off in the present, Sara is surrounded by her girlfriends, one thing leads to another and Sara begins to tell the story of how she and Milo met….
From the moment Sara started to tell her story, I was hooked. Sara was an amazing nurse who loved her patients and worked hard at her job. When Milo came into her care, I’d like to think that it was an act of fate. Sara was drawn to Milo and had a hard time fighting the feelings she had for him. Soon, these two would form an unforgettable friendship that would lead to a love that lasts a lifetime.
Now, the road to happily ever after wasn’t an easy one for these two. There were a lot of obsatcles along the way. But, these two had something special from the very beginning and I loved watching them come to terms with their feelings and accepting the things they have no control over.
The Candle Palace is a sweet little addition to The Jamison Valley Series. Sara is incredibly sweet and compassionate, and Milo is totally swoon worthy and doesn’t plan to let Sara go without a fight. Ugh! I just loved getting lost in these two and seeing them find their way. Their story kept my stomach full of butterflies and my eyes glued to the pages. Of course, The Candle Palace couldn’t just be all hearts and roses. It had its fair share of drama along the way. And I loved every single second of it.
