Sometimes a single flame can ignite a love that lasts a lifetime. Milo Phillips knows the meaning of pain. Suffering through the most intense physical agony of his life, he’s confined to a hospital bed to bear it alone. More than once, he wishes he’d died in the explosion that melted and mangled his skin. Darkness consumes him, snuffing all the joy in his life and leaving an empty hole in its … in its place.
But one day, a flicker of light sneaks into his hospital room, driving away some of the hopelessness. For the first time in months, pain isn’t all he feels.
The flicker’s name is Sara Foster, his new nurse. Milo just hopes that Sara can see past his scars. Because underneath, his heart has begun beating again just for her.

The Candle Palace was just the right book I needed!!! Sara and Milo’s story was so sweet it made my eyes leak. They’ve both been through so much and to find each other was a blessing. This may be a novella, but Devney will hit you with just as many feels as her other novels. One minute I was swooning and the next, I wanted to scream at a certain someone. I could only hope it was longer, but I say that about every book I love.
This wonderfully written novella was like coming home again!! I didn’t realize how much I missed Jamison Valley!! Devney Perry’s writing in this atrium was superb. She’s able to give some much feeling into her books. This novella didn’t feel rushed or forced. It gives us the story we’ve been patiently waiting for Sara and Milo.
These two met in the worst of circumstances but their love flourished. Tender moments that began with friendship. Stolen looks and the forbidden crush that each had. Watching these two fall in love was so heartwarming. And of course it wouldn’t be a Devney Perry book without a little drama. Just the right amount.
It’s a must read that has me itching for a Jamison Valley Series re-read!!
The long-awaited series finale says goodbye to Jameson Valley in The Candle Palace. This small town romance with a touch of suspense and high emotional stakes is a fitting send off from the Uber talented Perry!
Holy Toledo! This book. Oh my goodness. I LOVED it. Couldn’t put it down.
I have been anxious to hear Milo’s story since I knew it was coming out, and it did NOT disappoint.
Milo and Sara have a raw, real kind of love and story. Relatable, and fabulous. Sweet and real, and enough love to last a lifetime. What more could you want?!
Now….where’s my freaking Milo?!?! 🙂
I loved every single bit of this book. First of all, it’s a novella, but it’s a Devney Perry novella so it’s pretty much a full length book.
We met Milo back in The Coppersmith Farmhouse and I didn’t realize how badly I wanted to know the story of how he met Sara until I heard it was being written. Sara is a nurse in a burn unit that Milo is sent to after being burned badly in an explosion. Even though she is his nurse, Sara finds herself drawn to Milo. Through his extreme pain, Milo finds peace and comfort in Sara. Devney Perry is a master of storytelling and once again, she slays me with her words in this heartwarming tale of love found in a most unexpected place dubbed The Candle Palace.
I highly recommend!
Devney Perry has added another wonderful addition to the the Jamison Valley series!! Milo and Sara are the focus of this novella. We get to go back and see how they became Mr. & Mrs. Milo ends up at the hospital where Sara works. It is there that we get more about these kind characters and see how much love they have for each other. Sara is so sweet and Milo you just feel for him but they both have you rooting for them at the end!
This book blew me away, it was perfection in between its pages.. these characters and story will stay with me forever.
Ask and you shall receive! Milo and Sara’s story is here and it’s something that I’ve been waiting for since the very beginning. After reading this, I realized that it’s well overdue for a series re-read. Jamison Valley was the series that had me falling in love with Devney’s book and I didn’t realize how much I missed this place.
This novella was EVERYTHING that I needed and more! And I swear it’s always the novellas that are constantly leaving me begging for more. But Devney did a phenomenal job covering all the bases and not skipping over a damn thing.
I never appreciated a storyline more where there were major rules being broken. I just didn’t care because it brought the beautiful and sweet, Sara to Milo. And don’t even get me started on the man that is Milo, he will make you swoon for days.
I could not get enough of these two and the journey they took together to get their love. Totally illegal, but whatever, it’s fiction and their story will live with me forever.
If you haven’t read any of Devney’s books, you’re absolutely crazy and well you can go ahead and start with this one. And then go back and read from the very beginning.
**I RECEIVED A COMPLIMENTARY READER’S COPY FROM THE AUTHOR IN CONSIDERATION FOR AN HONEST REVIEW. **
Devney Perry
The Candle Palace is a small-town forbidden love story (yasss), and it concludes the Jamison Valley series from Devney Perry. Angst & emotional level high!
If like me, you have read and devoured all the phenomenal books in the Jamison Valley series, then you have been eager for this novella featuring Milo and Sara. Even though the series was completed with the Bitter Root Inn this one was highly anticipated.
When we first met Milo in the Coppersmith Farmhouse I loved this sweet, caring man. When he got hurt on duty my heart broke for him. Devney did his story justice with all the feels she packed into this brilliant novella.
The chemistry between Milo and Sara is off the charts and the connection is instant. Of course being Milo’s nurse this isn’t going to be easy, keeping their distance and relationship professional is getting harder and harder.
Another brilliant example of Devney Perry’s brilliant ability to bring her characters to life and fill her words with heartfelt and swoon-worthy moments.
This book is everything.
If you know me at all, you know I’ve been DYING for Milo’s story… since the day I finished The Coppersmith Farmhouse over two years.
And I honestly started losing hope. I didn’t think I’d ever get his story.
But holy shit! It’s here! AND I READ IT! And now I don’t even know what to do with myself!
I’m honestly speechless.
This was everything I hoped for and more.
Milo and Sara have such a raw and emotional story. You’ll be drawn in on page one.
I wish I had more words but for real… I. Am. Speechless.
Thank you, Devney for giving me this book.
I cried when I found out that you were writing it. I cried when I saw the cover. I cried when I got the paperback in my hand. I cried when I read it.
BECAUSE IT’S REAL. AND IT’S HERE! FINALLY!!!!
PS-I don’t know what to do with all my crazy #MiloforAllyson energy… where do I direct it now? What author should I bug next?
A wonderfully angsty, forbidden romance, small-town love story from Devney Perry!
Well my lanta!! The Cadle Palance may be called a novella but this baby packs a full novel punch!! Milo hit me right in the chest!! We saw Milo early on in the series and knew he got his HEA but getting his story was so much h more than my mind conjured up. Devney Perry has an exceptional talent… Milo is at his lowest, he’s begged and wished for his own death. But he’s alive. He’s been in incredible pain, inside and out. Then one day Sara crosses his path and a new spark ignites in him. I loved Sara’s kind and generous soul. These two made my heart ache in the best possible way!!
Miss Perry is one of the most beautiful writers out there right now. I get pulled into her worlds within words. Her people tug at my heart and make me fall for them, completely. I’m often left feeling wrecked. I’m emotionally invested in these characters. Above I write about Miss Perry’s exceptional talent, I could not mean this more. I can’t think of more than five current authors that gets me so wrapped up in characters, so I tuned to their feelings that I ache for then. I cry for them. I laugh and smile through tears. Most of all, the strength and integrity left me feeling hopeful and happy. Is there a better way to end a book? I can’t think of one!!
I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that… my opinions.
The Candle Palace novella is a fantastic addition to Devney Perry’s Jamison Valley series.
Milo is a character whose story many, including me, have been waiting for. After being injured he is in the burn unit of the hospital feeling like his emotional injuries won’t heal even as his physical ones are. While there he meets Sara, a nurse who is set to work with him.
Novellas are very hit or miss for me. I either love them or find them rushed and the story lacking. In this case the author has written an emotional and satisfying story with characters that I connected with easily. The connection and chemistry between Milo and Sara is well done and I really enjoyed reading their story.
Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.
I’m a huge fan of Devney Perry’s Jamison Valley series; the stories are full of wounded/tortured souls, of external/internal scars, of struggle and triumph, of darkness and light, of the lowest lows and the highest highs. They’re about the meaning of family, of love, of sacrifice, and of forgiveness.
Ever since meeting Milo Phillips, I’ve wanted to hear his story, to understand what’s beneath his anger, his pain, and his inability to find even the smallest amount of light in his darkness. The way that Perry crafts Milo and gives voice to all of his struggles truly illustrates just how low he has spiraled since his accident, but readers can also see the light that Sara brings to his life and how she refuses to give up on him, even when it wants to give up on himself.
Sara has the kindest heart, the warmest smiles, and the gentlest demeanor, and despite losing her dad and having a mother who never put Sara first, she’s a compassionate, genuine and hardworking nurse and person. While the saying a ray of light is a bit cliche, it’s exactly what Sara brings to her patients’ lives and those she cares about and while her feelings for Milo may be unadvised due to her role in his care, she’s exactly what he needs and deserves and that becomes vividly clear the further into the story you go.
I adore the meaning behind The Candle Palace and how it came to be, even if it is a bit morbid. As someone who loves analogies, this one worked for me and it has limitless interpretations that all fit this story, one way or another. The way I see it…The Candle Palace is where a torch can remain lit, even when it’s determined to extinguish itself when things feel overwhelming and darkness seems to surround it. And, to some extent, readers can relate to this idea, understand how difficult life can be at times, and agree with the idea that ‘it’s bad before it gets better.’
I hope Devney Perry continues to bring readers back to Jamison Valley, but even if she doesn’t, I know that the characters’ stories and the lessons taught will stay with me for quite some time.
4.5 Poison Apples
Devney Perry writes the absolute best small town romance!
Devney Perry’s small town romances are heart warming and beautiful. This is the angsty and emotional finale to the series. If you haven’t started, it’s time!
How beautiful, original and angsty! Devney Perry’s The Candle Palace is an absolute treat and I enjoyed every minute of it! Bravo!
A great return to Jamison Valley!!!!
What a great story of Milo and Sara! The relationships with all the characters. and the connection of Milo and Sara who just needed each other! Love this story!
The Jamison Valley women are the best. this novella gives all the fells and deals with real life issues!
How long have Jamison Valley fans been waiting for Milo and Sarah’s story? I have been patiently waiting for the moment that Devney Perry announced The Candle Palace was happening. I am happy to report that she delivered on all fronts. Not that any of us doubt Devney at this point. She continues to produce amazing stories that entertain us but also feel authentic. That’s one of the things that I love most about Devney’s books they feel like a story about someone in your hometown.
Milo and Sarah were adorable and perfect for each other. Sometimes I felt like a voyeur reading their journey but also privileged to get to share in it. Devney proves again with The Candle Palace why she is always a one-click author for me.
