Sometimes a single flame can ignite a love that lasts a lifetime. Milo Phillips knows the meaning of pain. Suffering through the most intense physical agony of his life, he’s confined to a hospital bed to bear it alone. More than once, he wishes he’d died in the explosion that melted and mangled his skin. Darkness consumes him, snuffing all the joy in his life and leaving an empty hole in its … in its place.
But one day, a flicker of light sneaks into his hospital room, driving away some of the hopelessness. For the first time in months, pain isn’t all he feels.
The flicker’s name is Sara Foster, his new nurse. Milo just hopes that Sara can see past his scars. Because underneath, his heart has begun beating again just for her.

All the feels with this Jamison Valley series book! We needed Milo and Sara’s story, and Devney delivered…it’s more like a novella, but still left you with warm fuzzies and happiness for another Jamison Valley love story!
I loved Milo and Sara’s story! It was my first in this series and I will be running to read more of them! The strength of all the characters just made it for me, milo fighting through being in the hospital, Sara finding her place and overcoming family and work issues, and Luna Espically. Luna was my favorite side character, her morbid sense of humor, her strong will to make things of her life, and to not let her burns define her! Just so so good<3
Even in an sterile and painful enviroment, love found a way.
I’m still trying to find the right words now. Since page one, this book has me hooked and it filled my heart with love and hope and all the beautiful things.
This is a standalone that is also part of the Jamison Valley series (one of the best series I’ve ever read). Even though you don’t need the previous books, you’ll enjoy better if you’ve read them. Specially because we meet Milo right in the first one (The Coppersmith Farmhouse).
As we see in that book, Milo is a deputy in the sweet and bucolic Prescott.
During an investigation, after a horrible explosion that almost took his life, Milo is taken to The Candle Palace, a burn unit in a hospital where he would find unbelievable pain as well as unconditional love.
“Her touch soothed the burns more than any cream or ointment on earth. Her voice was a dream, chasing away the dread and despair. When Sara was in the room, the pain was bearable”
The whole story was so enthralling, because their feelings were growing and developing, intense and always foward, but it wasn’t rushed or forced.
And it wasn’t just about passion and romance. It was about friendship, relying on one another, respect and a connection so deep, so undeniably consuming that it was almost palpable.
Sara was a sweetheart. Gentle, kind, professional but not sterile. She was light and a breath of fresh air, a balm for the ones in pain. She was quiet and a little shy, but she was also hard worker and dedicated, loyal and nurturing.
And a curiosity: Sara> in portuguese means Heal, and that is sharply accurate in her case.
Milo was…oh Milo. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but Milo is my new favorite Devney’s guy (sorry Beau and Jackson and Kaine). He is one of the sweetest heroes I’ve ever read. He was adorable, loving, kind, but not less strong and protective. He was patient and comprehensive. He was shy but fierce. He was insecure in his new state after facing death and so much pain, but he was so much more than scars and burns. He was someone I wanted to hug tight and hold him to me.
“‘The scars. They’re…Ugly’
‘They are part of you. And there’s nothing about you that I’ll ever see as ugly.
I don’t see scars when I look at you. I see a man who makes me feel wanted and sexy. You don’t have to hide these scars from me. They don’t scare me'”
Another thing I loved about this book is what Sara faces at work. It’s such a sensitive topic and it needs to be discussed and brought to light more often like that.
As I read it, I couldn’t unglued my eyes from the story. It was so powerful, so touching, and yet so sweet. It brought a smile to face and hope to my heart.
Once again this author overdid and brought us such a wonderful story. It was supposed to be a shorter book, but it never lacked emotions, angsty, love, passion, and a dose of anxiety to keeps us on edge.
It showed that you can find love when and where you least expect it and, most of the times, it gets worse before it gets better.
“I’m grateful for the explosion. All the pain. It was worth it. To be here, lying in your bed. It was all worth it”
The Candle Palace is set in Milos perspective, and I was soo excited to read since the Jasmison Valley series. Milo and Sarah get along so easily and they are so good for eachother. Sarah is his nurse, she helps him and although she had some internal struggle between following her job code and falling in love with a patient, Devney always leaves our hearts racing, I’m glad it works out for both Sarah and Milos. it was an amazing read.
Milo is definitely my new favorite man in this series! His humbleness and kind ways just pulled my heartstrings. Sara and her loveable self was too cute and super sneaky (except for the time she got caught) in getting to know and spend time with Milo. Such a great addition to this beloved series!
I adore Devney’s Jamison Valley series (and everything she writes to be honest). She never fails to deliver an emotional, beautifully written love story and The Candle Palace is the perfect finale to this fabulous series. All the stars!
Milo and Sara’s story was another amazing journey from Devney Perry. Milo is in the burn unit of the hospital and Sara is his nurse.
I loved this story, Devney knows how to write an epic love story that pulls you in and keeps you hostage until your done. Milo has his own demons and must overcome them in order to move forward. Milo and Sara have definite obstacles to over come and I loved how they overcame everything.
If your looking for a fluffy funny romance this isn’t it. I always am amazed at Devney’s books because I read so much and she still manages to amaze and shock me. Please one click Candle Palace it is like no book you’ve ever read.
Devney Perry takes us on a beautiful heart blooming tour of love and acceptance in The Candle Palace.
This heart-warming story is about Sara and Milo from the Jamison Valley series. Even though these characters are from a series, this book can be read and thoroughly enjoyed as a standalone. We first met Milo in The Coppersmith Farmhouse book. We knew what happened to Milo. But, now we get the full scoop. This novella is full of all the feels! I laughed, cringed, cried, and had many, many dreamy sighs!
Sara came from a broken home, her only saving grace was her father, until he died and left her heart empty and alone. Sara’s always had to be the fixer, the one to calm the masses, the one to take care of everyone else. But who is taking care of her? As a nurse working in the burn unit, Sara’s compassionate nature continues as she gives her all to her patients. It also gives her an excuse to hide from life. The last thing she’s willing to do is risk her heart again.
Milo is a deputy who has suffered severe injuries in the line of duty. Injuries that greatly alter his perspective on life.
Their reaction to each other was immediate and life changing.
“Even with the burns, even with his broken spirit, Milo Phillips had this glint in his eyes when he looked at me that made my heart race.”
They were the perfect balm for each other.
“Her touch soothed the burns more than any cream or ointment on earth. Her voice was a dream, chasing away the dread and despair.”
Devney’s given us two average people, living average lives, doing average jobs. But, as the story layers peel back we discover Milo and Sara are everything but average. They each have an inner beauty that shines like a beacon to others, only they can’t see it in themselves. Sara and Milo make each other realize their true worth and see their own light. A beautiful and romantic experience every reader will enjoy reading.
A beautiful read not to be missed!
I was thrilled when I heard Devney Perry was returning to Jamison Valley with Milo and Sarah’s story and good gracious, their story was soooooo worth the wait! Sarah and Milo reminded me of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich-sweet natured, yet stuck like glue to one another-and I loved every single bite of their romance 🙂 I also want to mention the care and attention to detail for burn victim treatments. It gave this story a slice of reality and provided the emotional rope needed to convince this reader Sarah and Milo were definitely in it for the long haul. Fantastic addition to the series!
The Candle Palace by Devney Perry is one of those books you read, savor and read again. Once again Devney wrote a beautiful and powerful love story. I was pulled in right from the beginning and I could not put this book down until I finished it. This novella is a very quick and delightful read. The Candle Palace has it all some drama, romance, love and was filled with a lot of emotion. The Candle Palace is part of the Jamison Valley Series but could very well be read as a standalone. If you haven’t read the Jamison Valley Series or any other books by Devney Perry I would highly suggest reading them, you will not be disappointed and you will definitely be hooked on her writing.
The Candle Palace is my first novel my Devney Perry and I am so hooked now on this series. I have to know more about these people and their backstories. This is a novel I would describe as full and rich with lively characters that make you not want to put down the book.
This one has the story of Milo, who by all accounts is a man who let life bring him down but underneath it all, you could tell that he was strong. Even though he shut out anything that could potentially make him happy and reveled in his pain. But when Sara, his nurse, comes to his aid, there’s no stopping her influence over him. She brings his darkened world to life and opened to the door to letting light back in.
Sara is a woman who I’d describe as genuine and caring despite her own life struggles. She is the type of woman you want in your court when life has knocked you down. She works in the burn unit and shows the upmost care for her patients. But when she encounters Milo, there’s no denying her instant attraction but that grows ten-fold as the story continues.
There’s some personal struggles, especially on Sara’s part, about their feelings toward each other. Even though, chemistry is undeniable, and yet sometimes there’s nothing that you can do but fall down with it.
Devney definitely has a way of crafting her characters voice so you feel like you’re there watching a love story unfold like you’d watch it on television. I think she has name the book aptly as it’s a metaphor for how hard life can be sometimes, and when it knocks us down and it grows dark, there’s always a candle lit somewhere to guide us back home.
Everyone can relate to this story in some capacity. I recommend this book to everyone who knows that saying “it will get worse before it gets better” even though that’s usually true, there’s always light at the end of the tunnel.
Stars for Guiding Light
The beautiful story was something I never knew I needed. An absolute perfect addition to this series. I love a broken guy who is at his lowest and worst, and love helps him find light. Milo was this to perfection. I just adore him. I loved the way the story was told. Another home run from my favorite author!
Hooked from the beginning of the blurb!
5 Stars
The Candle Palace is a brand new, and phenomenal novella by Devney Perry. It is the sixth book in the Jamison Valley series, but it can be read as a stand-alone. I am usually not a fan of novellas but guys let me tell you this one is a must read! The Candle Palace is a complete story full of heart, a little bit of angst, and a love that is so pure and beautiful.
Milo and Sara were amazing characters. I seriously fell in love with the both of them and their journey. They are both multidimensional characters and man, their story was everything I thought it would be. The connection between them felt real, and with Ms. Perry’s writing it made everything feel natural and not rushed. I enjoyed reading every last page of this book! Highly recommend reading it!
What a great story. Devney writes so beautifully. I loved Sara and Milo journey. It was great to spend a little time in Jamison Valley and see how Milo and Sara’s love story began.
I love the Jamison Valley Series and I adored Sara and Milo’s story! Ever since the first book I’ve been wanting a book for Milo and we finally have it in The Candle Palace.
This story starts in the present day but takes us back, showing us how Milo and Sara’s relationship first started and how they came to where they are today.
Sara was working in the burns unit when Milo is admitted with horrific injuries, It is her job to care for him as her patient, except she starts to feel more. The characters were wonderful with Sara’s unwavering kindness, loyalty and compassion. And Milo being such a brave hero of the story.
There were a couple of brilliant secondary characters and a less than desirable one adding some drama and obstacles to the journey for these two, but ultimately we learn how these two reach their Happily Ever After.
I loved seeing our old favourite faces from the other stories and love this as a wonderful ending to one of my all time favourite series’
Milo and Sara’s novella will warm your heart and soul.
If you love small-town romances the way I do and dont mind working for the HEA, this book will rock your world! Love it.
The Candle Palace is a sweet and enduring novella to Devney Perry’s Jameson Valley series. It tells the story of Milo and Sara and how they met. Their story is rich and full of goodness and I enjoyed it so much! It was awesome to get a small glimpse at the other heroines from the previous books as well. This book is a great addition to the series.
Devney Perry, Author of “The Candle Palace” has written an amazing, emotional, thought-provoking and romantic novel. The Genres for this novel are Fiction, Women’s Fiction, and Romance.
