Sometimes a single flame can ignite a love that lasts a lifetime. Milo Phillips knows the meaning of pain. Suffering through the most intense physical agony of his life, he’s confined to a hospital bed to bear it alone. More than once, he wishes he’d died in the explosion that melted and mangled his skin. Darkness consumes him, snuffing all the joy in his life and leaving an empty hole in its … in its place.
But one day, a flicker of light sneaks into his hospital room, driving away some of the hopelessness. For the first time in months, pain isn’t all he feels.
The flicker’s name is Sara Foster, his new nurse. Milo just hopes that Sara can see past his scars. Because underneath, his heart has begun beating again just for her.

Milo is a character we have seen throughout the Jamison Valley series, as is his wife Sara. We knew that he met her when she took of him in the burn unit of the hospital after the explosion, we knew she came back with him and they were married, and we knew they had one son after many years of trying. Now we get their story.
I love how Devney chose to tell this story, as a flashback with Sara telling the girls how she and Milo met. Seeing as all the other books, and years have passed it’s the only way that really made sense.
As with the other books in the series, their love story is instant.
The audio is a great companion to the book and Ava Erikson, who has narrated every book was spot on as was Aiden Snow.
I absolutely love everything about this series and am really holding out hope for a second gen!
I love Milo and am glad he found Sara, but this did not hold me the same way as the other book Ms. Perry has written.
More than anything I wish that Sara had more backbone, she was just two soft especially after reading about the strength of the other women in this series and the rest of the books Ms. Perry has written.
Still it was a sweet, enjoyable read.
The beautiful and heartwarming story of Sara and Milo from the moment they met. Not your usual meet-cute either, this takes place in a burn unit. Quite original, fascinating and crafted into and exceptional love story.
It’s sweet, it’s sassy, it’s funny and it’s romantic. All that in a wonderful story that everyone can enjoy. Who would think a burn unit of a hospital could tell romantic stories or think about people we want to meet and get to know? This author has a way with words that makes a reader draw right into the story-line and sort of become part of the book. I felt the emotions of patients with burns; I felt the heartache of families involved with the healing process; and, I felt the compassion of the nursing staff that deal with each individual. I loved Milo, the victim of a terrible explosion. I admired Sara, his nurse and later his everything. It’s a great book and I highly recommend this author and her storytelling.
I loved Milo and Sara’s story. So sweet and swoon worthy. Their connection was electric from the start and the forbidden element held you until the end. A great addition to this series.
I will admit, I went into this thinking I would be reunited with old friends for a few hours. I was wrong.
Despite me not giving the prologue a chance – as in, I hated it because it was not grabbing me in deeper, I continued reading.
This is a sweet story of how Sara And Milo met and fell in love.
You learn about their pasts and you are drawn in.
There are the characters you hate and the ones you love. I think I actually enjoyed Sara more than Milo. They both have their demons, but Sara just seemed strong from the get go for me. She was very independent from the start and that is what truly sucked me in… and Luna.
I fell in love with the side character of Luna. I think she needs her own book. #justsayin
“The Candle Palace” is a wonderful addition to the Jamison Valley series. Originally this novella wasn’t planned, but I’m so glad Devney Perry took the time to tell Milo and Sara’s story.
This is the sweetest love story of all six books. I adore both Milo and Sara. They are fast becoming one of my favourite Jamison Valley couples.
This was such an extremely beautiful love story. I am so grateful that the author gave us Milo’s story. We meet Milo early in the series and know that there was an explosion in which Milo was burned badly.
The author begins this book with Milo in the burn center in the hospital in severe pain. This hospital is quite a way from his home town it is hard for his parents to be there. Sarah has been his nurse and she feels like there is something about Milo that speaks to her soul. As Milo comes out of being under all the pain meds, he also sees something special in Sarah they have this undeniable connection. The author packs so much story into this novella along with an incredible epilogue.
A great addition to the series. Loved it. I think this was my favourite of the six.
The Candle Palace by Devney Perry is the sixth book in her absolutely amazing Jamison Valley series. This is the heartbreaking and inspiring story of Milo and Sara. Mio is the deputy from earlier in the series that was burned in an explosion that nearly killed him and injured another officer. This is a story of love found in the horrific pain in the burn unit to the obstacles of being a nurse in love with a patient. The storytelling is magical. The attention to detail truly makes you feel like you are fully immersed in the story, in the hospital witnessing the love story begin between these two. Loved it! I highly recommend everything by Devney Perry! Enjoy!
It was so great to jump back in the Jamison Valley world, I miss it so much and all its wonderful characters. If you haven’t read the other books in the series this can be read as a stand alone, but if you want the back story about Milo, then please read the first in the series. This is a shorter story than Perry’s other books but longer than most novellas.
The Candle Palace follow Sara and Milo, Milo is a deputy from Jamison Valley that is now a patient in another town and Sara is his nurse. Milo has been dealt with a life changing injury, he is both mentally and physically scarred, feeling guilty about what happened and angry for feeling weak. Sara is use to patients with Milo’s type of injury and emotional state, but there is something about his kind eyes and the way Sara can’t stay away.
Overall I loved the sweetness and emotion that these two characters go through. Sara has a tough family history and an even more stressful work environment, along with some inappropriate co workers to deal with. I loved her spirit and how she handles her patients, she loves what she does and loves being able to bring some calm and peace to her patients. Milo is a deputy who is not use to not being able to do things on his own. I loved how sweet he was to Sara but most of all his love for his parents.
In the end this may be a short story but there is so much love and growth for these two special characters. I loved being able to read their story and the journey they went through together afterwards.
The Candle Palace is following stories about Milo and Sara. Their love stories was a total kismet! This short Novella was sweet and lovely. What a place to meet your soulmate in a Hospital? MILO’s journey was very painful and horrific. Their love stories were genuine and bloomed beautiful.
I adored the love expression and kindness.. throughout challenges, they had surpassed it together.. what a sweet romance 🙂
One more book in the Jamison Valley series. LOVE LOVE LOVE
Sara is out for ladies night when they ask her to retell her story with Milo that no one knew about.
Beautiful, intense, tortured, sweet amazing story. My heard hurt but I loved it so very much.
Thank you Devney
The Candle Palace, the Jamison Valley series finale, is the perfect small-town love story full of emotions and angst. If you’re looking for a forbidden romance with a tormented hero, this is the book for you!
The Jamison Valley series have been a good one. We’ve gotten snippets of Milo and Sarah throughout the series so I was glad that we got their story. It was very sweet. I enjoyed reading how Milo and Sarah got together. These were good people and they deserved the best. They complemented each other perfectly and it was nice to see their love come alive. A great addition to the series.
I was so happy to finally get Milo’s story! Sometimes novellas feel rushed and miss the mark, but that was not the case with The Candle Palace. It was a well developed story and had the usual chemistry and charm of Devney Perry’s style. I’d highly recommend the whole series, but it can be read as a stand-alone.
I loved The Coppersmith Farmhouse and couldn’t wait to read more about Milo!
Give me a sweet, alpha male and I’ll almost always fall in love…sweet Sarah and her dedication. Loved this novella!
Highly recommend this author, series and book
Holy Moly this book packs a fucking punch. I loved everything single thing about this book. From its Gorgeous cover to it’s Beautifully Written story. Devney Perry is an absolute Master at story Telling. She is some what new to the writing world but Damm can she give some Authors a run for their money…
Once you start from the first page of the Prologue you captured into Sara’s and Milo’s world. Your heart will hurt so bad for Milo. He is such wounded person both inside and out. All I wanted to do was just hug him, but Sara she is cut from a different cloth. This girl is something Special, something that good amd clean. Her heart is gold.
The care and love they both show is profound. They love and chemistry is captivating. They both see beyond straight to the heart and soul of each other.
Grab this beautiful book now and be prepared to be taken on a beautiful, healing Journey. Love Conquers all…
Enjoy!!!!
She does it again! Devney never goes wrong. Even in a novella, she manages to pack an emotional punch that will stay with you long after the last page!
Such a beautifully written story. Absolutely loved the nurturing nurse Sara. Milo the cop who was burned on duty, in excruciating pain. Read it slowly so it wouldn’t end…. Loved, loved, loved…. Outstanding story….
