Sometimes a single flame can ignite a love that lasts a lifetime. Milo Phillips knows the meaning of pain. Suffering through the most intense physical agony of his life, he’s confined to a hospital bed to bear it alone. More than once, he wishes he’d died in the explosion that melted and mangled his skin. Darkness consumes him, snuffing all the joy in his life and leaving an empty hole in its … in its place.
But one day, a flicker of light sneaks into his hospital room, driving away some of the hopelessness. For the first time in months, pain isn’t all he feels.
The flicker’s name is Sara Foster, his new nurse. Milo just hopes that Sara can see past his scars. Because underneath, his heart has begun beating again just for her.

WOW….I think The Candle Palace will be battling The Outpost for my #1 favorite Devney book spot!
I loved going back and seeing what happened with Milo after the explosion. He & Sara were just so perfect together. I loved that they couldn’t fight their pull to each other.
It was so awesome going back for a short visit to Prescott!!
Every time I read a Devney Perry Book, it takes me a few days afterwards to get my feelings in order, sadness that the story I have been waiting for is now over is the first emotion I feel, closely followed by the overwhelming sense of happiness that another couple I have grown to love, have found their happily ever after, and lastly an immense feeling of desperation for the next story to come.
The Candle Palace is no different. When Devney said she was writing another story in the Jamison Valley Series, I couldn’t stop smiling for days, the series that started my love affair with her writing was continuing. Then when she announced who’s story it was going to be, I was ecstatic, if anyone deserved their HEA it was Milo, and oh my goodness what a fantastic job she did giving it to him.
For fans of Devney Perry you will remember Milo from her very first book, The Coppersmith Farmhouse, Milo was the loose lipped Deputy with a heart of gold, who got injured when the meth house they were investigating blew up! Skip ahead a few books to The Lucky Heart and we see Milo again, only he’s fully healed and back in the Jamison Valley with Sara, the nurse who looked after him whilst he was in the burns unit in Spokane. It was so great to see him happy and healthy, but I always wondered about their story, how did the shy deputy manage to win the heart of his beautiful nurse, well I won’t give much away, but as it did in TCSFH, Milo’s sweetness, quiet strength and kind personality shone through and won Sara over along with the beauty of his heart, and though they had a lot of bumps and trauma along the way, in the end you are left with a timeless love story of two people who truly couldn’t do better than the other and shows even after years of marriage, ups and downs aplenty along with arguments that mean so much at the time, but are soon forgotten, their love is still as strong and deep as when they first met, and they will continue fighting for what they have together.
As with everything Devney does, she has the Midas touch, or the Midas keyboard I should say, because everything she writes is pure gold. Another 5* read, I would highly recommend.
Wow! I’m a huge fan of Devney’s. I love all of her books and drop everything else to read them. I knew I was going to enjoy The Candle Palace but I didn’t realize how much. This was an amazing story. Milo and Sara’s story is a beautiful one. I don’t want to say too much because everyone should experience this story without any spoilers. All I have to say is read it! You won’t be disappointed. She truly saved the best for last!
Thank you Devney for this amazing story!
5 Stars!
Loved this book! Sara is a nurse on the burn ward that Milo goes to to heal from his burns from the meth house explosion in Jamison Valley. She befriends him and feelings develop. This book will hit you in the feels! Such a beautiful Beauty and the Beast story! 5 amazing stars
When Devney Perry says that she plans to bless her readers with another trip to the Jamison Valley, I stand up and cheer! It’s what comes naturally right?! We love our small-town Montana book family and Milo and Sara were no exception.
We first meet deputy Milo Phillips in The Coppersmith Farmhouse as he and Jess try to deal with some drug dealers in the area. Unfortunately, this mission resulted in the tragic explosion that leaves Milo severely burned and needed months of hospital treatment and therapy. It is both the worst thing and ultimately the best thing to ever happen to Milo. As a result of his injuries he is placed in the care of nurse Sara Foster who is inexplicably drawn to him in a way she has not experienced with other patients. There is something about the grumpy man that calls to her. As Sara goes above and beyond to care for Milo, he comes to trust her and rely on her, later falling in love with her at The Candle Palace that has been his home.
Even with this story being a novella, you can still expect all of the feels that normally accompany a trip through Jamison Valley. There is indeed something unique and special about all of them, and Milo and Sara will claim your hearts as well. Theirs is an emotional story that is sure to leave you misty eyed one minute and smiling the next. Milo is as sweet as molasses and I so enjoyed both his softer side and when he proudly put his protective side on display. Such a well balanced character that is sure to make all the girls swoon! Another wonderful addition to the Jamison Valley family that is sure to please. I loved it.
WOW!! I read this when I first got it, waited, and then read it again. This Novella gives you everything. We met Milo in The Coppersmith Farmhouse, he was a side character, but you could tell then that he had a sweetness about him with a heart of gold. Milo was involved in an explosion, and went to Spokane for medical treatment. When Milo returns at the end of The Coppersmith Farmhouse, he has Sara and we just knew she was as amazing as him.
Well Devney Perry gave us The Candle Palace, and I for one am grateful! Sara was Milo’s nurse in the burn unit, and right away she is drawn to him. He is in pain and is suffering from horrific burns to his body. Sara has a gentle soul, and a softness about her that eases Milo. They slowly build their relationship, and you can feel the love flowing off the pages. Sara and Milo build something so sweet, and so solid, that your heart just falls right along with theirs. This story was beautiful, and sweet, and full of everything we could have ever wanted for Milo. Devney Perry has mastered the ability to pull you into a story and actually make you feel as if these characters are part of you. My heart is full, and I will be diving in for the third time soon.
“It all started at The Candle Palace”
Sara Foster is a nurse who works at the Burn Unit in a hospital in Spokane. She has a very soft and giving heart and providing relief and comfort to her patients is her calling. They have a new admission, he was burned in a meth cooking explosion. He is Deputy Sheriff Milo Phillips. We met Milo in the The Copper Smith Farmhouse.
Milo is in extreme pain, compounded by guilt that Jess, his boss, was also injured. Sara is immediately attracted to him, and that never happens to her. Sara gives him peace and instills confidence that this will eventually be over, and he will have his life back. She finds herself pulled to him more and more, even spending her time off sneaking in at night to sit with him. Her nurse administrator and a Dr. both comment to her that it’s against so many rules. Milo doesn’t want her to break rules, but she has become his lifeline and a reason to work harder at getting better.
This is a beautiful love story as all the Jameson Series books are. It’s wonderful to catch up with all our favorite characters, and of course add new ones. This can be read as a stand-alone, but don’t deprive yourself of the pleasure of reading the whole series.

I was missing Jamison Valley and was always eager to hear about Milo’s Happily Ever After. Sara is his perfect match. They compliment each other so well and this story fits perfect with the rest of the series. I highly recommend this book as well as the rest of the Jamison Valley Series. This can easily be read as a standalone.
I would happily read hundreds of Jamison Valley love stories! The Candle Palace is another fabulous trip to my favorite fictional town of Prescott, Montana. This is the story of Milo Phillips who We first met in The Coppersmith Farmhouse and fell in love with as all the series progressed. His story starts after he suffers serious burns received in a meth lab explosion. While hospitalized in the burn unit, Milo meets and falls in love with the sweet nurse, Sara. I’m so happy that Devney Perry missed Prescott and all the residents and let us all come along for another visit!
This novella has all the feels.
This is the story of Milo and his HEA. He is a side character in the rest of the Jamison Valley series and is intriguing enough to warrant his own story.
The Coppersmith Farmhouse, the first in the series, explains what happens to Milo to put him in the position of meeting his one true love, Sara. Milo is hurt in an explosion and Sara is his nurse in the burn unit at the hospital. You learn about the strength each of these characters has…both as individuals and as a couple. Though their story is not quite as full of excitement as the other characters in the series…their love is just as powerful.
Devney promised a powerful story…and she did not disappoint! A very enjoyable read!!
Oh, Milo and Sara, you have stolen my heart! You are right up there with my favorite books: The Clover Chapel, Tragic, and Letters to Molly. I completely and totally fell in love with their love story. It was gripping from the start; the pain was palpable from Milo’s injuries to the unit Sara worked at. The feelings….oh so many feelings. I started this book and could not put it down until I devoured the last page. Still, I could’ve read so much more about them. There are so many family dynamics in this book that everyone can relate to in some way or another. Though Sara’s mom really takes the cake.
If you are looking for a book that puts you through the wringer on so many different levels, this is the book for you! It is the feel everything book of the summer! It is the feel everything book of the summer!
If you’ve read The Coppersmith Farmhouse in the Jamison Valley series, you’ve read about Milo and the explosion.
After Devney announced that Milo is going to get his book and we’ll read how he met Sarah, i was so happy.
Well..as always she didn’t disappoint. This novella is beautiful. Even if it is a novella, this book has do much of what i like in s book. Sweet, protective alpha, strong heroine, romantic, beautiful scenery and even a little suspense.
Sarah was a strong character. Sweet snd love her job in the burn unit. So dedicated to her patients and it’s no surprise that she caught the eye of the handsome new patient.
Milo is s police officer that got burned in an explosion. He is is so much pain. Yhe way Devney describes his pain and the treatment was hard for me to read but it was also perfect. That’s when you know that is an amazing author.
It was also awesome to read briefly about the other amazing characters in this series.
Loved everything about this book.
STARS!!
This is the novella brought me such happiness! Throughout the Jamison Valley series, Milo has made appearances and he has been the character that I have always wondered about. How does his HEA happen? What were the lasting effects of his injuries? He may have been a side character at the beginning but he made such a huge impact on the series that he for sure needed his story told!
Devney Perry was able to make the book start out in a way I didn’t see coming which. I loved reading about Sara. She was brave, she was strong, and even though their drama was completely different than the others, their story has just as much of an impact on me as all the others.
The Candle palace is unique, heartfelt, and just as potent as the previous books in the series. It has love, just a bit of suspense, and the heart that we have come to expect from this writer.

What a wonderful story!!
I truly didn’t know what to expect from Milo’s story. Actually when Devney announced she’d be releasing this book, I wondered to myself what could this story be about???
Well I have to say this book took me by complete surprise, but in the best way. This was such an emotionally charged story. I wasn’t expecting the storyline to be about this subject. But I thought Devney handled this story and it’s subject matter perfectly. This was also a very heartwarming and swoony love story between Milo and Sara.
I am so glad she decided to write this book because it truly completed this series. All of the characters have had their story told and each one was just as great as the first in the series.
We’ve seen Milo and Sara in the other books in the Jamison Valley series, but now we get their before story. We get to see how Sara and Milo first meet and get their HEA. This is a novella but it truly didn’t lack for anything, This story was filled with emotion, romance, love and even some drama to keep you turning the page. I actually would’ve loved more of Milo and Sara. I loved their story that much!!!
The Candle Palace is a standalone novella in the Jamison Valley Series and is told primarily in Sara’s POV, but we do get some of Milo’s POV also. Just enough to know what he is thinking and feeling.
This story may be short and quick but you will absolutely fall in love with Milo and Sara!!! It was also great being back in Prescott, Montana. I loved seeing the ladies of this series again and how close their friendships have grown!!
If you are a Jamison Valley or Devney Perry fan, then you will WANT to read this book. If you haven’t read anything by Devney Perry, I suggest you change that and pick up any one of her books!!! They are ALL that good!!!
The Candle Palace, is the newest by one of my favorite 1-click authors, it is a novella packed full of sweetness, swooniness and a bit of intrigue mixed in.
Milo and Sara’s story is such a beautiful one. After a horrific explosion, Milo had been in so much pain, not only physically but also emotionally. But with the appearance of his new nurse, Sara, it all becomes bearable. I absolutely adored the relationship that developed between Milo and Sara. There were some obstacles that got in the way, but the connection was so strong that nothing was going to stop them from being together.
I loved their story so much, the friendship, the chemistry and absolute love they had for each other was just awesome. Definitely another 5-star read!!
Oh yeah! This is what I’m talking about! A novella that is full and rich, filled with enough angst to keep it going, romance that will make you swoon, and some drama to keep it interesting. Add in another trip to Jamison Valley and a story that fans demanded since The Coppersmith Farmhouse and I am spinning with glee!
I was so freaking excited to get Milo’s story. After being burned in an explosion his story takes a back seat to the other characters in Jamison Valley. But now we get to see what really happened and how he met Sara, the love of his life. This was everything I wanted and nothing like I expected.
Working on the burn unit, Sara is a sweet, caring and kind nurse that feels an instant attraction to Milo. His burns don’t distract from what draws her to him but his stoic acceptance of the pain incurred during his treatments makes her respect and care for him more. I loved that she had a genuine heart and although she has some professional struggles in regards to her growing feelings towards Milo, she worked around them and in the process fell madly in love.
”Her touch soothed the burns more than any cream or ointment on earth. Her voice was a dream, chasing away the dread and despair. When Sara was in the room, the pain was bearable.”
We don’t get much of Milo’s point of view, but we know he’s much like Sara in his demeanor. He is polite, kind, and not the type of guy to stand out in the sea of alphas that live in his hometown. But with the right woman, buttons can be pushed and protectiveness can rise up when needed. While this story doesn’t require much in the way of him standing up for her, it’s obvious he is completely alpha over her. Gotta love everything about that!
”No more crying, okay? I can’t take it.”
“I’ll try.” She gave me a small smile. “Is that just a guy thing? Not being able to see a girl cry.”
“No.” I ran my index finger up and over the hills of her knuckles. “I can handle tears. Just not yours.”
This book is filled with so many swoony moments, extreme chemistry between Milo and Sara and moments that will have you choking back a lump in your throat. Ms. Perry brings these characters to life, making them real and their story completely believable. I can’t express how much I loved this couple, their story and this return to Jamison Valley.
Can be read as a standalone.
I love Jameson Valley! Sara and Milo’s story is awesome! I flew through the pages and can’t believe I finished it so quickly! I loved it!
