Masterful
I enjoyed “The Cabin.” Compared to Landon Beach’s first two novels, I thought this one was much more complex but masterful. I listened to these on audio, and this one, “The Cabin,” required me to pay stricter attention and even go back and listen to certain parts again. This novel moves around a lot and back and forth in time, but is very well put together. It kept my attention from beginning to end. I have found that Landon’s novels are very educational while still entertaining. The narration was excellent.
The Cabin is a thriller wrapped around a surprise, infused with a modern threat to civilization – a great plot! The story is intricate and flowing, the characters are deep and relatable, and the dialogue really enjoyable. Highly recommended!
I think this is my favorite book by Landon Beach. When reading The Cabin, I felt like I was watching a weekly TV drama series on network television. The book would flashback to portions of each character’s life and would reveal important moments in their story. It got me hooked! Landon would dig deeper and deeper into each character and he would reveal their background as the book went on. It was fun to read and I loved seeing how everything unfolded. This book was a mix of action, romance, history, and espionage. It was a perfect summer read for me!
Landon Beach continues to set the woods on fire. The Wreck and The Sail are challenging books to compete with – and I do not deserve the liberty to rank them – but The Cabin easily contends alongside Beach’s previous novels, both of which are outstanding.
Like the previous two, The Cabin has an intriguing and thrilling plot, ending with similar results: the reader ignoring the late hour, the emails requiring response, the food on the stove, the swarm of ground bees carrying the dog off – just to find out how the story ends. Beach’s novel is compelling and wildly entertaining; I could not stop reading in the final chapters.
Perhaps I was so enthralled with the book because, more than his others, Beach explores in exciting form the dynamics that drive our current geopolitical competitions. While some of the implications in his story are frightening, I appreciated learning some of the details surrish a book more informed. By the time I was done, I was interviewing a retired armounding the tactics of modern superpowers, and, in my fact checking, I was respectfully pleased to find out Landon Beach has done his homework and isn’t leading me down some fantasy paranoia hole. The scenarios in this book are legitimate. While I appreciate the compelling fiction, I’m equally grateful to finy colonel who re-enlisted after the World Trade Center attacks and researching the Belt and Road Initiative. Pick up The Cabin, and let Landon Beach take you to school.
I also enjoyed Beach’s artful, personal way of exploring some of our domestic issues, particularly, the toxic distrust and misunderstandings between members of law enforcement and disenfranchised members of the black community. He does a phenomenal job through his frequent flashbacks to characters’ prior experiences of exposing their backgrounds and the subsequent motivations that shape their current decisions in the book’s action, and he does so in a way that allows the reader to empathize with both groups. I imagine this is an intimidating issue to tackle in one’s writing, but I find Beach skillfully humanizes his characters and saves us his judgment of either group.
I hope Mr. Beach is already working on the next one. If he keeps up at this quality and pace, I’ll be anticipating his books more than the next Carl Hiassen novel. While we wait, I’ll be monitoring the news for unexplained explosions; stockpiling generators, diesel production equipment, heirloom vegetable seeds, and malt, barley, hops, and rain water; mowing lawns and saving the proceeds to eventually purchase a Great-Lakes-going 1973 Cargille Cutter; and trying to patch together 3 sentences that don’t make me feel inadequate to Landon Beach.
Please keep up the great work, sir.
This book was a great summer read that I tore through in one sitting. A great addition to the Landon Beach series, but you don’t need to have read the first two to follow this one. As always, great characters, fast pace, and enough historical depth to elevate this series above the rest.
Looking for a fast-paced, weekend read with many plots coalescing in a final climax? This novel, a third by Landon Beach, will not disappoint! The story lines are interwoven leaving the reader wanting to find out how they all relate. If you are in need of a brief escape, this novel is for you!
It’s been a while since I have started a book that I found myself ignoring other things I had to do so that I could finish it. The Cabin has suspense, strongly developed characters, and a well-developed plot. One of my favorite things about this book was how easy it was to visualize the settings and characters based on the author’s word choices. This one is staying in my library! Fantastic work, Landon Beach!
Building on his previous success Beach provides the perfect end-of-summer page turner. The right alchemy of fun, intrigue, adventure, danger and suspense makes The Cabin hard to place on pause as the chapter’s timelines pull you forward. You know the clock is ticking! A fun and enjoyable read.
The Cabin is a wonderful spy novel from Landon Beach. It is his third and most intriguing novel. While I like the water in his first two novels, this has twists and turns that you do not expect. It also has a little romance.
The Cabin – Landon Beach’s third book is a must read for everyone. In this novel the Best Selling Author unravels a worldwide covert threat and intelligence to avert possible catastrophe. This novel is filled with suspense and intrigue from the “get go”. Commencing with a meeting between C.I.A. officer Lear and an agent in Berlin that did not go down as planned. Throughout the book, the author keep readers engaged in stories of sex, hearth-warming and breath-taking scenes that have the reader clamoring for more. The Cabin is an easy to read novel and I encourage everyone to get a copy.
I loved this book! It has many layers, some of which surprise you. The main plot was super engaging and kept you wanting more. I learned a lot about the CIA which was quite interesting, but I was particularly taken with the commentary on the position of China and Russia on the world stage. I won’t say more about that to avoid spoilers. Just read it and see for yourself. Another significant layer were the human portrayals, which were often unpacked through back stories that were at times heart-wrenching and stayed with me long after I finished the book. Superb character development! The juxtaposition of character development with the story line was extremely well-done. Very smooth. I highly recommend!!!
The Cabin captures the reader from the start, with complex characters, flashbacks, and CIA intrigue. Haunting pasts and impending futures keep the reader turning pages as the action builds and relationships strengthen. Well-researched, the book appeals to the history buff and those interested in espionage. Landon Beach’s third Great Lakes installment may be my favorite one so far!
Landon Beach hits another homerun! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story. The characters were complex, memorable, and well-thought-out. The story kept me interested from cover to cover. As a midwestern living in Florida, it’s so much fun to be taken home to the Great Lakes in these stories.
Great story, fun characters, and wonderful twists… this novel has it all! Though the setting is a bit different from The Wreck and The Sail, this book still delivered the thrills you expect from a Landon novel. Now the question is: where are we going next?
While I thoroughly enjoyed “The Wreck” and “The Sail”. “The Cabin” is my favorite thus far.
The characters were intriguing with all the twists and turns and the plot takes you on a journey you don’t suspect.
I highly recommend this book. You won’t be disappointed.
This book has it all, suspense, romance, excitement, thrill – the best so far of Landon Beach. It touches on areas few are willing to risk talking about and does it well! It was a great read that was hard to put down, if You like a little mystery then this is a must read.
I read The Cabin in two sittings…I couldn’t stop reading it! It made me laugh at times and cry at others. It is a story of flawed people coming together and making the best of their troubled lives. It is also a story of a frightening and yet probable defusing of a terrorist attack. It is packed full of humor, action, danger, and a little romance. I have read all Beach’s novels and without a doubt this is his best one!
This is my favorite among this author’s current novels. I read The Wreck, The Sail, and now The Cabin immediately as they released. All three are worthy of precious free time. I might never look at anyone again without wondering for a split second who they really are. Beach does a phenomenal job creating depth in each of the characters but also weaves their stories together in a realistic and sometimes surprising way. I love this book!
The Cabin appealed to several of my interests because the plot is thoughtfully laced with details about the places and events that influence the diverse, relatable characters. The action drew me in and kept me wanting to read. I connected with the dynamic characters on many levels so much that I wanted to know more about what happened to them after the novel ended. I recommend reading The Cabin with other people…there were twists in the plot and even moments of suspense or humor that made me want to pick up the phone to call a friend!
