Keeps u wondering until the very end.
This was a pretty good book but a little short on the length. I would have appreciated a wrap of the characters.
This was an interesting story, I just the ending was a little better, as how the survivors turned out.
enjoyed this short book. it kept me up until I finished it.
I enjoyed this fast paced book, until the end. The end was so anti-climatic that it ruined the book for me.
was an interesting read with a lot of action but the language used got to me early, can’t stand the use of the Lords name in vain. Just ruined a possibly good story. wish books would be marked for language using the “f” word and god’s name in vain. In my opinion this is always improper.
Great beginning, but it just kind of ends….
I must admit, the blurb intrigued me. The story idea had considerable merit and Koloen did pull me in to the premise. Nothing gets a person’s attention more then watching a man move from having a brilliant career, a happy marriage, and enjoying life, to becoming a hermit in the woods. Why would anyone make such a major turn around in their life? Well Jacob’s thorn was a job that had become more of a burden than love and the dagger that gutted him was a cheating wife.
Renovating an isolated cabin became his healing. I can understand that as I, myself, renovated an abandoned house that most said should be torn down, not rebuilt. But in an isolated wilderness? No thanks, not for me. Jacob was angry enough that his new world made perfect sense. His limited contact with the outside world was with vacationers in cabins across the lake and his occasional need to stock up on groceries. Other than that his world was peaceful, quiet, and well, isolated.
It was all that until he heard the gunshots from across the lake, the frozen lake in the middle of winter. His distant neighbors had all left the woods allowing winter to settle around their cabins. No one should be there, especially with heavy artillery. As isolated as he was, Jacob had to walk miles to find enough signal to call for help. Help in that territory meant an assistant sheriff might drive by to see who was making the noise. Spoiler Alert: The sheriff found out in a way that he definitely didn’t like.
Koloen pulled me in, had me wondering what would happen, got my interest and… he left me hanging. The end of the story came way too fast. Yes he tied up all the loose ends, but at a pace that didn’t keep with the prior speed of the story. I wish he put just a bit more time into the closing chapters. Had he, this book would rate 4 or even 5 stars. Apparently I’m not alone in my thoughts as may other reviewers wanted more, too.

Although the story line dragged out a little, I felt it was original and worthy of my time to read it. The finish seemed a bit incomplete, however!
Unusual circumstances, fast read!
Great quick read.
Good character development and story line. Easy reading.
could not put this down. well done
There was nothing to like about this book. The story seemed ridiculous and contrived.
very disjointed in the story
Spare prose which slowly reveals an increasingly grim plot. Bare bones without a lot of relationship chit-chat. Nicely done.
Good story line
Very good writing – enjoyed the ride!
The two main characters were in a conflicted relationship. They were a pain in the neck to each other, pushing each other’s buttons. The story was a believable, adventurous, page turner.
Good read
