A common theme: belief in the beauty of that second chance. The Butterfly Garden is Book Six of That Second Chance Series.Sometimes … Second Chance Series.
Sometimes love happens when you least expect it…
Jenny Romano has never been a white-picket-fence, happily-ever-after girl. Despite a mother who rejected her free-spirited, unique ways as irresponsible and just plain wrong, Jenny has found happiness as a photographer, flitting around the country and snapping photos of other people’s lives. Her older sister, Grace, has a husband, children, and a carpool schedule. She’s the one their mother calls “perfect.”
But when tragedy strikes her sister’s carefully constructed life, Jenny must step in and help. Soon, she’s knee-deep in small-town, suburban life, the kind she’s always avoided…
Psychologist Elliot Drake spends so much time healing other people’s pain that he prefers to keep his own relationships short and uncomplicated. He’s loved and lost once and with a young daughter to raise, he’s not willing to risk his heart again. Of course, he’s never met anyone quite like Jenny. Outrageous and unpredictable, she’s nothing like her well-controlled older sister. And the more he’s around Jenny, the more he wonders if short-term is really what he wants…
Elliot and Jenny are about to discover that real life happens whether you want it to or not. Will they let real love happen, too?

The Butterfly Garden by author Mary Campisi, has many layers of interaction which weaves a wonderful story of Family, Sisters, Secrets, Longing, and Disappointments. It is well written and I enjoyed reading the story and thinking about the different characters.
You have the two sisters, Jenny living the untethered single life of a professional photographer. Then there is Gracie, the older sister who has a family and the perfect life and seems to do everything right in the eyes of their mother. Then trouble strikes… Gracie and her husband are in an accident and Jenny must go and care for Gracie’s girls while she is recovering in the hospital. Grant has been killed in the mysterious wreck.
I won’t post anymore spoilers, but this story really hits the heart in the secrets people hide while dealing with relationships with family and friends. Very Good Book, I’m glad I read it and look forward to more from Mary Campisi.
Two sisters as different as day and night. One with the perfect family, the other a great career……till a phone call.
Grab a glass if wine and enjoy as one terrible accident unites the sisters and see how each deals with the new way life will be.
Grace is married, two great kids and living the ideal life from what people can see ..but who really knows. Jenny is the younger sister, never married, off onto adventures as a photographer and still feeling not quite as loved as Grace.
The friendships each sisters have in their lives are important and come through the story…and this story is as old as time…but told in a unique way. The daughters of Grace are so real, you can see them and feel their pain and confusion. And Elliott, the doc to help the girls heal …his own daughter Sydney, has her own deep pain.
The changes are slow and realistic and the characters are flawed people dealng in their own ways with what life has dealt them.
This is an uplifting book told with warmth and compassion and humor. Humor helps as does bubble gum, lavender, and a dog called Ruby Rose. You’ll smile at the end of the book and maybe buy a flower or some gum…..
