He hid the old pencil-drawn map for 40 years. The guards never found it.After 40 years in San Quentin, Luke Palmer leaves with a state-issued suit, $100 dollars to buy a bus ticket, and a map that will lead to a promise and into the heart of a dark forest. “The Butterfly Forest is a high-octane thriller that is part mystery, part love story, and full bore great storytelling that you’ll think about … storytelling that you’ll think about days after you’ve left the woods.”
– John Davenport (Orlando, FL)
College graduate student Molly Monroe is about to release rare butterflies not far from where the FBI used 4,000 bullets in a shootout to kill Ma Barker and one of her gangster sons in 1935. Molly snaps a picture that will frame something she never sees coming.
Sean O’Brien does see something — a predator. Between the sea of cars in a Walmart parking lot. Walking quickly. Stalking two women.
As O’Brien tries to prevent the abduction, he opens the door to a new relationship. And he opens a dark door to a horror that is secluded within the forest. He follows veiled tracks that lead him farther into the woods where an evil from the past intersects with a frightening presence to form a volatile trap with only one way out.
“ABSOLUTELY MESMERIZING!!!!!”

Appreciated learning about an area / occupation / interest I knew nothing of, all wrapped in a very readable mystery.
Intriguing. Characters are interesting, many unpredictable scenes, exciting ending. I liked the way the author made me believe I was right there living each moment in the story
Beautifully written
I LOVED this book….couldn’t put it down and was ready for the next one but couldn’t find one that seemed to show what happened with the budding love affair in book 3. I really do hope there is one I haven’t found that has closure at some point. It had a we will see what happens ending. I will continue to read his books as this is my first one.
I loved this book and didn’t want it to end. Tom Lowe, you are a wonderful writer.
This is a nicely paced story. Keeps moving through adventure and touches on a love story.

This was a all night read.Could not put it down really held my attention. Fast moving pace.
Good book for kicking back and reading. Not what I expected so a page turner it is.
A quick read and hard to put down!
It kept you interest from beginning to end
I highly recommend this murder mystery. It is masterfully written with an exceptional plot and well drawn characters. The main character is also in other novels. The main character is Sean O’Brien who was a police detective who retired to his boat in Florida. The plot keeps expanding and the descriptions of Florida everglades is amazing.
Learned something new about Florida and butterflies.
A good story that was very well written
The book is a page turner. You don’t want to put the book down.
Much too long and on the edge of being boring at times. 100 pages less and it have had 4 stars.
wow! gruesome at times, but enough mystery and human interaction to keep me reading.
Excellent book- hard to put down- good characters!
