Praise for The Burning Point:
“Powerhouse novelist Mary Jo Putney explodes on the contemporary scene with an emotionally wrenching and dramatically intense story. She tackles a very difficult subject with insight, and compassion. Exceptionally powerful reading!”
–Romantic Times Magazine
“This passionate love story [unfolds] gradually, in trademark Putney style. The author has created a realistic, well-crafted story, laced with elements of suspense and mystery and featuring sympathetic protagonists whose biggest mistake was marrying too young.”
–Publishers Weekly
“Kate and Patrick are both complex people, and answers do not come easily for the unresolved issues in their past. Set against the backdrop of demolition work and a question of sabotage, this gripping story sizzles with passion and danger, but is ultimately about healing and forgiveness—not only for others, but for ourselves as well. Mary Jo Putney will no doubt gain new fans with this book.”
–The Old Book Barn Gazette
“Ms. Putney is one of the very best authors who excel at historical romances—now she’s crafted her first contemporary and fans of both genres will be delighted to learn that her incredible talent for compelling characterization and original premises comes through on every page. She takes a taboo issue not normally found in a romance and with touching sensitivity, creates a poignant tale about forgiveness and the awesome power of love to heal all wounds….I could not put it down.”

What an emotional story built on the harms of abuse in famililies and how it has long lasting effects. An excellent read.
Realistic tragic behavior with redemption for both main characters. The mysterious drama that began the series of events threads though out leaving suttle clues I didn’t want to be realized.
I love MJP and this contemporary series is amazing. I couldn’t put it down until I finished.
Very insightful on the subject of domestic spousal abuse and the impact of parental abuse on children’s lives.
Great Flew through it
Love her books!
Entertaining book with usual occupation – demolitions experts – giving it an added level of interest for me. Action combined with romance – nice package!
Hard to put down
Enjoyed the drama between the main characters, which was so tragic/happy, one could almost forget the threats, accidents which were ongoing. The family dynamics were intense and touching.
This was a good book. It dealt with abuse in a way that might give hope.
Most books by this author are entertaning.
This author never disappoints. Although this book was a departure from historical romances, her well-developed characters, interesting plot and exploration of deeply emotional issues is everything I’ve come to expect from Mary Jo.
I love Mary Jo Putney’s work, especially her Regency novels. This contemporary is also good — I’ve read it at least twice, and when it came up on Bookbub, I decided it would be good to have in my library. Our heroine is trying to make a living at a “man’s job”: building demolition. Dangerous enough without the interference of someone who wants to see the company fail when she’s in charge. Good mystery, good romance — well done!
Very much enjoyed this book . A little more substance than many romances out there. A great excape and the detail around building demolition added a depth of interest and danger.
Strong female protagonist, happy ever after ending.
Loved the storyline and characters
Loved the story behind the characters and their marriage!
An inspirational story about forgiveness, however, it over-simplifies domestic violence.
I liked this book very much. It had a good story and it was realistic in how the ex husband and wife dealt with each other.
Predicatable
