Praise for The Burning Point:
“Powerhouse novelist Mary Jo Putney explodes on the contemporary scene with an emotionally wrenching and dramatically intense story. She tackles a very difficult subject with insight, and compassion. Exceptionally powerful reading!”
–Romantic Times Magazine
“This passionate love story [unfolds] gradually, in trademark Putney style. The author has created a realistic, well-crafted story, laced with elements of suspense and mystery and featuring sympathetic protagonists whose biggest mistake was marrying too young.”
–Publishers Weekly
“Kate and Patrick are both complex people, and answers do not come easily for the unresolved issues in their past. Set against the backdrop of demolition work and a question of sabotage, this gripping story sizzles with passion and danger, but is ultimately about healing and forgiveness—not only for others, but for ourselves as well. Mary Jo Putney will no doubt gain new fans with this book.”
–The Old Book Barn Gazette
“Ms. Putney is one of the very best authors who excel at historical romances—now she’s crafted her first contemporary and fans of both genres will be delighted to learn that her incredible talent for compelling characterization and original premises comes through on every page. She takes a taboo issue not normally found in a romance and with touching sensitivity, creates a poignant tale about forgiveness and the awesome power of love to heal all wounds….I could not put it down.”

I enjoyed reading this story. It is part of series but can stand on its own. The book talks about a difficult subject matter. I like how it was handled and how the characters came to terms with their emotions.
I have read this book twice I loved it so much! Its about forgiving and healing and second chances. Can that happen after such a harsh betrayal? Can people change their dark sides? I recommend this book.
Decent story, don’t like all the cuss words being religious in nature.
The author has a definite touch for bringing out the poignancy of a relationship, even one as broken as she describes in this novel. Abuse has broken more than one marriage and anger management is something many people do not believe they need to exercise – until it is too late. I found this second chance romance to be hopeful and touching. I wish this sort of healing could happen for more separated couples.
I went into it knowing it was delicate subject matter. I didn’t really like the hero nor the heroine. I loathed the father, the only redeemable character for me was the mother and I am so happy with how her situation worked out!
I’m still reading but it’s good
I really enjoyed these characters and how they addressed their flaws.
This book is outstanding. I read far into the night. The plot provides much food for thought.
Was not a page turner for me. Whereas “The Wild One” by same author was one of my favorites.
A great summer beach read.
Good book, easy to read with a great story line.
Kept my interest all they way to the end
I don’t think this is the right genre for this book which deals with wife abuse, murder, family conflict over gay son, etc.
Deals with taboo issues that are rarely spoken about. Wonderfully done….
A father’s last will and testament sets his daughter and her ex-husband in uncomfortable and challenging situation. If you are interested in knowing how to implode a building, then read on. Demolition is family business. Ex stayed to work with father in demolition company when daughter left town after divorce. Great story after twisting and turning to a happy ending.
I read this book, followed by the 2nd book in the series, and a novela, and am waiting for the 3rd book in the series. I loved it!
This storyline does pertain to domestic violence so readers should know that before reading.
I was kind of torn with this book, I dont in any way condone abuse but at the end of the day , they both seem to have learned from their mistakes.
This is a tricky story, on one hand it has a good storyline and is really detailed, on the other hand it also contains a HUGE trigger for domestic violence.
I came across a one star review for this story and just knew I had to read it. That peculiar review claimed weak characters and suggested that this story condones domestic violence. IT DOES NOT!!
Yes, Kate and Donovan has a troubled relationship that ended in divorce. But they also do the work on themselves, acknowledging that it takes two to fail at a relationship.
I like the story, the characters felt real to me. I’d recommend reading if you like angst stories but note there are domestic violence triggers.
I really enjoyed this book. I thought the back story of the explosives was interesting and the light suspense made it a page turner. The subject matter of abuse was handled well. The story had good depth and except for a few editing issues, was well written.
