I love the strong heroines and the way the author highlights issues of this time in a way that makes you feel the struggle of those who loved it. Fabulous books!
In a nutshell: I think I underlined more of these books than not. The writing is just that good. The characters are solid, layered, three-dimensional people with (sometimes contradictory thoughts, feelings, desires), they are almost always relatable and they are always interesting. I love that the conflicts come from sources besides ridiculous misunderstandings and that the characters talk to each other and support one another. I love that history comes alive in all its multi-colored, multi-cultured, multi-faceted diversity.
If I thought they would appreciate these books for the gems they are, I would recommend these books even to readers who aren’t typically enamored of romance.
Courtney Milan , thank you for these books, thank you for your copious author notes… really, just thank you for writing the books I’ve desperately needed to read. I’m officially a fangirl for life.
I am new to the Courtney Milan band wagon and began with this fabulous series! A friend said I should read her, I found a fabulous price on this set, sat down, and began. Let’s just say not much work got done this past weekend!
What wonderfully inclusive stories. Women who aren’t fabulously beautiful being the object of a handsome man’s affections. Women who are forthright and speak their minds. Women who do not love traditionally. Mixed race marriages. Women who don’t try at all to fit in society, when fitting in was expected! So many awesome threads woven into this series!
I won’t go book by book to review since I felt the whole series was worthwhile! Take a weekend or a week or how ever long it takes you to read all these stories and just do it! So many hours of reading pleasure.
I highly recommend this series and this author. I will be setting aside time to read more of her work.
This was a very good series. I like to be able to follow the family as they progress.
Each main character was unique and their love interests were also unique.
Loved this series! Read them all.
Start at the first and keep going it is a very enjoyable series. flows well
Among the best series of Regency romance I’ve read.
Picked up this boxed set when it was on sale and it hasn’t disappointed! I’m done with the first two books and can’t wait to get to the next ones. Great historical romances.
I loved this book. The characters were all interesting and real. I loved them all.
Come for the romance, stay for the unconventional heroines: the incognito chess champion; the budding (pun intended) geneticist; the aspiring astronomer—all determined to conquer the 19th century world that wasn’t designed to acknowledge (much less accommodate) them. Plus, scientist/mathematician heroines so well-written they walk right off the page are kinda my thing.
1346 pages long good read goes from one story right to another all about the same families and friends
The Governess Affair, the first book in the series, convinced me that Courtney Milan is one of the best authors I’ve ever read. The other books in the series reinforced that belief. Milan creates strong characters, especially strong women characters. Women who value ideas and independence. Women who don’t compromise their intelligence just so they can fall into bed with lusty males. Milan creates scenes that are laugh-out-loud funny; who else has written groaner puns about astronomy and mathematics? Who else focuses an entire relationship on plant reproduction and genetics and chromosomes? These realistic novels are largely historically accurate, presented with inspirational characters and complex ideas. This is a series that I will definitely reread.
I love this series SO MUCH, I binge-read every single book in fourteen days! Politics, science, sex, humor, and characters you won’t forget! Courtney Milan
