The golden skies, the translucent twilight, the white nights, all hold the promise of youth, of love, of eternal renewal. The war has not yet touched this city of fallen grandeur, or the lives of two sisters, Tatiana and Dasha Metanova, who share a single room in a cramped apartment with their brother and parents. Their world is turned upside down when Hitler’s armies attack Russia and begin … their unstoppable blitz to Leningrad.
Yet there is light in the darkness. Tatiana meets Alexander, a brave young officer in the Red Army. Strong and self-confident, yet guarding a mysterious and troubled past, he is drawn to Tatiana — and she to him. Starvation, desperation, and fear soon grip their city during the terrible winter of the merciless German siege. Tatiana and Alexander’s impossible love threatens to tear the Metanova family apart and expose the dangerous secret Alexander so carefully protects — a secret as devastating as the war itself — as the lovers are swept up in the brutal tides that will change the world and their lives forever.

This book. This is one of the most beautiful and memorable love stories I’ve ever read. It’s also an exquisitely rendered look at history that is extraordinary in its scope and also its level of detail in depicting the struggles in Russia during World War II.
The Bronze Horseman follows the Metanov family living in Leningrad in 1941, focusing on …
Gah! I will forever love this book!
I don’t even know what to say about this book. It’s such a tragic beginning to the series but the story is worth everything. Before I read this book if I was asked what my favorite book was I would say I like all the books I read but I have to say this book is my favorite. Nothing compares to it. The characters are all so different and the ending …
Somehow when this book came out and was popular I missed it. I heard about it on a message board and read it years afterward. I was blown away. What an amazing book. I don’t usually like books with too much reality in them but frankly, the author had such a way of writing that I just had to keep reading and see what happened to the characters. …
“I’ve said that in the past: oh, this day I’ll remember, but I have forgotten the days I thought I would never forget. I remember seeing my first tadpole. Who would have thought? I remember tasting the salt water of the Black Sea for the first time. I remember getting lost in the woods by myself the first time. Maybe it’s the firsts you remember. …
This is one of my top ten favourite books. It is just breathtaking.
Best book(s) I’ve read in a long time. I loved Alexander and Tatiana’s epic love story in all three books in the series. My memory of these books are ever-lasting. Tatiana and Alexander and The Summer Garden
My favorite book of all time…
My all time favorite romance forever and a day. Read for 6 straight hours without coming up for air. Everyone must read this book.
Back in 2010 I was part of a fan letter to an author blog tour. I choose Paullina Simons. This is what I wrote to her because of her giving the world, The Bronze Horseman:
Dear Paullina Simons,
Thank you for writing …
This book takes place in Leningrad (current St Petersburg) during the beginning of WWII. The character development of Tatiana is fantastic. She starts this book as an immature teenager who is forced to mature as the events of the war unfold. Simon’s passion and knowledge of Russia is easily shown through the pages.
From the moment Tatiana stops to get that ice cream, I was hooked. Beautiful, sweeping novel of tragedy, heroism, and love, it’s everything you would expect from a Russian based tale of WWII. This book reads like poetry yet keeps the reader turning the page. Loved it so much I bought the rest of the trilogy and wasn’t disappointed.
“The Bronze Horseman” is an epic romance at its finest. This book is a re-read (over and again) for me. It is one of those books with a story and characters that you cannot let go of, and need to revisit these old friends every now and again.
Alexander (Shura) and Tatiana (Tatia) met in a moment, a beautiful “sliding doors” moment. On a sunny day …
One of my all-time favourite novels.I have read it several times now and the sequels and just love it. I’ve always been intrigued by Russian history and I was so lucky to visit Russia and relive some of the locations. Such powerful characters and such a memorable romance. Highly recommended.
my second favourite book series
My absolute favorite love story of all time. I can’t recommend it enough to lovers of romance.
A great historic and romantic adventure, I really enjoyed it.
One of the best trilogies I’ve ever read!!! History & romance at their best!!!
This book has been my romantic favourite for years; it’s my go-to book, my forever book, the book that started all this love of reading.
I’d never been so transfixed into a story that makes you read it over and over again, their love is forbidden, it’s heartbreakingly good, your emotions are so twisted in this book, your both yelling and hoping …
A bit long but compelling and fascinating time in history well described.
This series is one of the best I’ve ever read.
