Gavin breaks up with his wife and is devastated. He finds help in the form of a secret book club that his team mates belong to. They read romance novels in order to understand how to talk to women and how to be better partners to their wives and girlfriends. The first rule of book club is that you don’t talk about book club.
Thea is Gavin’s estranged wife and mother of his two kids. She gave up her career as an artist when she had the twins with Gavin. Now that things were being shaken up, she was trying to get back some of what she wanted and has re-enrolled to finish her degree.
I loved the premise of this book, as I’ve said. I also loved how blokey the blokes are. Some of their interactions were very funny.
This book is well written and a delightful read. Highly recommended.
When a MLB player and his wife land in marital trouble, his friends will step up and indict him in their secret book club. The special thing about said club is that the men handle their relationships based on the romance books they so eagerly read.
When I came across the blurb for this book I knew I had to read it and it didn’t disappoint. It’s fresh, entertaining and fun-fun-fun.
I love my romances, but I like them better when they are not the cookie cutter reads that seem to be the bread and butter for most authors and the Bromance Book Club is definitely not your usual book. You have a marriage on the rocks and a man trying to fix it by way of having his friends dissect a Regency book for him.
I enjoyed the story line, the way it was written, the characters and their banter and interaction among themselves and with the secondary characters.
This book was a complete departure of what I usually read and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
This book was AMAZING AND FUNNY!!!!!!! 5 stars and I will be anticipating the sequel very much!!!!!
This is a second chance romance and I thought that it did a great job at that. Basically the story is about Gavin trying to save his marriage with his wife Thea, because of a mistake he has done, by reading romance books. Yeah you read that right, ROMANCE BOOKS!!!!!! And it was so funny when he tries to apply it to real life. You will laugh and cringe at the same time (at least that’s what I did).
I have been rooting for both characters. For Gavin, I was rooting for him to become a better husband and fight for the one he loves the most. As for Thea, I have been with her emotionally and was cheering her on to not give in easily to Gavin’s charms because he had hurt her. It is a wired combination on how I cheered those two on but it went very well.
The side characters were amazing as well. Gavin’s friends were especially the most fun to read from, particularly Mack, which he will be the main character along with Liv in the next book and I’m so excited for it!!!!!!! As mentioned before, Liv is another character that I enjoyed reading from. She is even more feisty than Thea which was fun. Honestly Mack and Liv are both chaotic and I don’t know how their story is going to play out in the next book, but I have the feeling it will be amazing.
What made this book even unique is that we get to read part of the book that Gavin is reading (the book on the book cover) and seeing as he applies to them with his wife. It was just so funny and I adore those moments.
And I cannot mention the sex scenes. Oh my God there was a lot of them but there was a particular one that was way too steamy for me that I had to put down the book for awhile to get myself together. It was too hot and spicy and I almost sweat!!!!! Soooooo if you like that, be ready for it because you are in for a ride.
The ending was the best part of them all. It was funny, sweet, embarrassing, hot, and got me all the butterflies in my stomach.
All in all, I highly recommend reading this book (not you kids just adults) because it is so worth it and will bring you a smile in your face (at least I got a smile but I’m sure you will too).
My second favorite trope will always be Second Chances. My first favorite trope will always be Enemies to Lovers. I love when characters get second chances at romance together. The Bromance Book Club has the Second Chance trope, and I loved how the male protagonist had to win back his wife by going to a Book Club with his baseball teammates. Romance books can help with relationships.
Female Protagonist: Thea Scott is the wife of a baseball player, and her marriage with Gavin Scott hasn’t always been about romance. They had a great relationship in the beginning, and then baseball happened and having children. Thea has always faked it with Gavin, and Gavin realizes it one night after a successful play in baseball. I didn’t like Thea in the story and how she reacted towards Gavin. I also didn’t like how she treated Gavin when he was trying to gain her trust again. There were parts I did like about her and how she handled certain situations with other baseball player wives and Gavin being teased with his stutter. Other readers may like her, though, but there were times I wanted to go through the book and tell her off.
Male Protagonist: Gavin Scott is the second baseman for the Nashville Legends Baseball team. I liked his character because he knew he messed up when he left his wife and his children after realizing what Thea was keeping from him. He’s not a perfect character, and he finds out he’s made some mistakes. One thing I loved about the character that makes him different from other male heroes in stories is that he has a stutter. He has been made fun of due to his stutter all his life. Gavin’s wife and his friends have stuck up for him for his stutter several times. I enjoyed Gavin’s character the most int he story because he was willing to win back his wife and be there for his daughters. He fought to prove himself in this book.
Storyline: The Bromance Book Club is all about Gavin, and Thea’s marriage is in trouble due to Gavin finding out that Thea has been faking the O for a while now. Gavin is lost because of it. He ends up leaving, and Thea wants a divorce. It’s up to Gavin’s baseball teammates to teach him the way to win back Thea’s heart by joining their Romance Book Club. Gavin is not allowed to talk about the romance book club. Gavin is going to find a way to win back his wife thanks to a hero in a Regency Romance novel. I loved this storyline because it was different, and I liked how Lyssa Kay Adams had the male characters create a book club to assist them in their relationships, etc. You don’t hear a lot about men reading romance books. My husband has mentioned reading the romance books I read, but he’s not into reading books like I am. Maybe one day he will read one of the books.
Steaminess: Some Steam.
Standalone or Series: It’s part of series, but each can be read as a standalone.
Cliffhanger: No
Trope: Second Chance at Love
Would I recommend this book? Yes, especially if you love books that have the trope Second Chance at Love. I love those kinds of books.
I read the description and knew I needed to read this. It was everything I never knew I needed. A bromance book club where guys read romance novels to help with their relationships?? Sign. Me. UP!!
Going in, I will admit I was worried I had built it up too much in my head and I wouldn’t end up liking it as much as I had hoped I would. Thankfully, it was everything I wanted and more. I ended up completely and fully loving it.
This book was great. Well and truly great. I read one page and didn’t put it down until I was done. It hooked me fast and it hooked me hard.
Endlessly witty, completely endearing, and exceptionally written. I can’t wait for book 2!
This was a fantastic, funny read with characters that resonated with more than just rom-com stereotypes. These characters are intelligently crafted to twist your expectations and I love when they not only cop-to their flaws but apologize for them without expecting instant forgiveness.
Gavin Scott, 2nd baseman for the Nashville Legends MLB team marriage is in trouble and his life is falling apart. He has just found out that his wife of three years has been faking it! Talk about a downer! Gavin wants to fix his marriage, especially after Thea asks for a divorce, but he is more determined to get a second chance.
When one of Gavin’s friends approaches him with help in the form of a secret romance book club for men, Gavin thinks they have lost their mind. But after a few meetings Gavin realizes that by reading this romance book, he might actually be able to save his marriage. Through a series of ups and down Gavin dives in head first to win Thea back. Together these two go on a fun and entertaining journey to help save their marriage and in the end they have a lot of soul searching to do in order to find their happy ending.
Overall this story was so fun and entertaining. It had me laughing out loud, swooning and even crying. Great story that I really loved.
If I could give a 10 rating I would. This is the funniest book I have read in ages. I could not put it down. Even funnier that we have friends who were professional MLB, NFL and NHL players. I gave copies to their wives can’t wait to see what they think.
This was fabulous! I turned to my bookstagram @lets_talkbooks to let my followers pick my next book. It was between The Bromance Book Cub or The Royal We. As you guessed this one out ranked the other and I can see why.
I love the concept of a book in a book. I really liked the book Gavin was reading. I’d totally buy Courting The Countess.
It was hilarious reading about big masculine guys reading romance novels and their book boners.
This may be my favorite romance novel this year? I couldn’t put this down, it was second chance romance excellence. Gavin and Thea were both flawed characters, but throughout the book, they changed for the better for themselves and each other, and the character development was everything. I enjoyed every aspect of this book, including the friendships between Gavin and the guys (Gavin’s banter with Mack was hilarious), the romance, and the family relationships. I look forward to reading the next one!
This is a good story. It has fun times and serious times. Only because we are talking about the possible break up of a marriage.
All of the times with the book club boys were simply fun and usually added a smile to laugh. The things they come up with sure are different(insert eye roll here). I can totally see why it could and would work…so they do have a bit of a good plan. I almost wish a few of the others had mentioned how it worked for them but…maybe that’s girl thinking and not how men do it.
I did listen to this on audio and the narrators did a great job. They really added to the characters with their voice inflictions.
Nothing I Didn’t Love About This One
Male support group shenanigans – perfection
Hero willing to do whatever it takes – swoon
Heroine who realizes she wants more but she’s at fault too – yes, girl!
Twin little girls – adorable
Snippets of a Regency romance along the way – 2 for 1!
At first I wasn’t so sure about Thea but then Gavin, with the help of the Countess and her Earl, forced me and Thea to see her issues and face them. What I was sure of from the jump was the absolute smack down that Malcolm delivers to romance haters and the power of romance novels in improving all relationships!
I can’t wait for Mack’s story as I feel like Gavin will enjoy it just as much!
THIS WAS SO GOOD!!!
All you need to know is that it’s a book-club starring all dudes, who read romance novels to help them understand the women in their lives better. The relationship these men had between them was so awesome and full of humour and support! It was such a great bromance!
We are so in need of more romance stories that actually explore the dynamics of a relationship. About couples who are going through rough times and seeing how they salvage their relationship. Or not.
What I loved about this book is that the main plot runs parallel to an actual storyline from a book our main character is seeking guidance from. I liked what that indicated. That books are what we turn to for answers when we run away from life.
I loved this book! I already want to reread it.
The Bromance Book Club is a romantic comedy about a married couple on the verge of divorce. It’s warm and humorous, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Gavin is blindsided by his wife’s revelation that she is unsatisfied in their marriage and wants a divorce. In a desperate attempt to fix things and win Thea back, he accepts some unconventional help from his macho guy friends. There are many funny moments—and some over the top ones—shared by the men as they study a regency romance novel for clues about how to relate to women.
Beneath all the fun, games, and whimsical plotting, there is an undercurrent of truth. Men and women speak different love languages and it makes it difficult for them to relate to each other. Gavin has to learn to effectively communicate with Thea and to honestly reflect on how they became so out of tune. The story isn’t all about a bumbling, clueless husband, however. Thea is a superb mom and a supportive wife, but she owns a piece of their dysfunctional marital pie. I’m glad she has opportunities to examine her own faults.
Gavin and Thea’s adorable twin girls are an added bonus to an already sweet story.
Such a cute story that had me smiling like a fool and laughing out loud. Amazing characters too! Each were so vivid and dynamic, that practically leaped off the pages. It does get a bit predictable, but hey most romancy books are, this does not take away any from the amazing story.
Found this book from the N.Y. times recommendation. Loved it. Look forward to reading more books from this author
I love a good bromance to go with my romance. Looking forward to the next!
As this is a “marriage in trouble” story focused on a couple with children, there was so much I could relate to in terms of losing yourself inside the roles of wife and mother.
Some hilarious banter between the “bros” who make up the bookclub, including a “how to flirt” lesson that had me cackling.
Insightful conversation about what can be learned within a romance novel – both about ourselves and our partners. And at the heart of the book, this was a very tender story of two people who learn that actually, love is enough.
This books has been under my radar for quite some time, a book friend highly suggested I read it. I have also been reading many books involving a married couple which is also very refreshing.
You have a professional baseball player, Gavin, who is trying to win his wife, Thea, back. Being a professional baseball player can take a toll on a marriage, but add to the fact that when the hero thinks he’s getting his wife off, if you know what I mean, well his ego gets bruised.
Gavin and Thea’s love story, was love at first sight add to pregnancy and a “shotgun” wedding, well Gavin is blissfully ignorant in all things of intimacy.
When his marriage is at it’s wits end, his friends try to pull the stick out his you know what and make his see the light of day. How is that you may ask? Well they have a secret book club with professional athletes, politicians and businessmen reading romance novels to swoon the faintest of hearts. They call these books “manuals” lol. Let me tell you, the scenes with Mack, Malcolm, Dell and the Russian are by far hysterical.
But see there’s more to the story with Thea too, and those you need to pay attention to as well.
Gavin will do whatever it takes to win his wife back. Even if he has to take advice from Lord what’s his face (when you read the book, you will get the reference).
I cannot wait to read the second book in the series.
The Bromance Book Club is the first book I’ve ready by Lyssa Kay Adams, but definitely won’t be the last. I really enjoyed this second chance romance for married couple Gavin and Thea.
So Gavin and Thea had a fast start to their relationship when Thea got pregnant and they quickly married. Now a few years later they have lost the connection they had when first dating, and when Gavin discovers Thea had been faking the Big O for years, his male ego is bruised and he leaves when Thea suggest they have no chance to make things work.
Enter Gavin’s teammates and members of the Bromance Book Club. They read romances to learn about how to treat women. Now, I did have some issues with this, especially when Gavin quoted word for word a few times, but I also love the idea that a group of men would actually read romances to try and better understand women. I will say I absolutely loved the bromances with all the men in the group. They gave each other lots of crap along the way, but they all had each other’s back one needed.
I really enjoyed Gavin and Thea basically starting their relationship over as he courted her thank to tips in the romance book he was reading as well as instructions from other members of the book club. I genuinely liked them as a couple. I loved that Gavin was all in to work on their marriage and do the work it required to make it work. I have to say I really wish Thea had been a bit more open about her past with Gavin, as she had major trust issues because of her parents. While I totally agreed with Thea that Gavin should have realized she was faking long ago, I also felt like he was fighting and uphill battle because of Thea’s past.
I did see progress along the way, and really loved Thea coming out of the shell she had been living in and being more open and honest about her feelings not only with Gavin but everyone around her. I liked that Thea and Gavin seemed to grow closer and closer the more time they spent together. I really loved both Thea and Gavin started falling in love with each other again as they dated and had family time with the daughters and Thea’s sister Liz. Honestly, I fell in love with them as a couple the more time I spent with them.
The Bromance Book Club was a fun read for me. The romance was a bit of a bumpy ride, but I honestly found myself laughing more than I expected and I was engaged with the story from the beginning. I look forward to reading more books in this series in the future.
