The first rule of book club: You don’t talk about book club.Nashville Legends second baseman Gavin Scott’s marriage is in major league trouble. He’s recently discovered a humiliating secret: his wife Thea has always faked the Big O. When he loses his cool at the revelation, it’s the final straw on their already strained relationship. Welcome to the Bromance Book Club.
Distraught and desperate, Gavin finds help from an unlikely source: a secret romance book club made up of Nashville’s top alpha men. With the help of their current read, a steamy Regency titled Courting the Countess, the guys coach Gavin on saving his marriage. I had heard for so long people saying that The Bromance Book Club was THE rom-com to read and they were right! I bought it on Audible one evening to have something to listen to while cooking and well… I ended up listening to it until 5AM. But it was so worth it!
The Bromance Book Club is exactly what every woman reading romance could imagine when thinking about a group of men reading romance novels as relationship manuals. Every member of the book club is so different and adds something unique to the story. Some scenes when they talk about the romance they are currently reading had me laughing so bad that I had to stop the audiobook to catch my breath.
It is hilarious, but at the same time so heartbreaking. We can see this couple who became strangers, but who still love each other. Gavin witnesses his mariage falling apart and he doesn’t know how to fix it. At first he doesn’t really believe the bookclub will be of any help, but he can’t stand letting his wife leave. The relationship between Gavin and Thea was so sweet and so hard at the same time. You can feel Gavin’s pain, but you also understand Thea’s point of view, which made the story so much better.
This book reinforced my belief that the world would be a much better place (with women much more satisfied) if every man was reading romance novels. The reality that a lot of women fake orgasms is also so well addressed and is also a key concern of the book club.
If you want a sweet and really funny rom-com about a couple trying to save their mariage, go read The Bromance Book Club! I also really recommend the audiobook which was super enjoyable to listen to.
I read this one in about a day and a half because I couldn’t put it down. Interesting spin on a rom com novel
It’s not often you get to listen (or read) a book about a couple who is trying to save their marriage. I loved the Book Club and how Gavin was all in. I wanted to slap Thea on quite a few occasions and seriously could have done with less Liv since she seemed to be a barrier more than a support. This was a fantastic listen with the separate narration of the book the boys were reading
Every heterosexual woman wishes there really was a male club like this! Well written and entertaining.
I loved the Bromance book club. The characters were had their own flaws that they had to work through and the side characters made the story even greater! I loved every minute of it and it truly left my heart happy.
I listened to the audio version of this book. The reader was wonderful and the story good
I truly hate saying this about books, if you’ll look at the rest of my page you’ll see I’m normally pretty positive but this was truly utter rubbish. I picked this up looking for a lighthearted, funny read and was encouraged by all the positive reviews but the only bits I laughed at were bits that were not intended to be funny. No men have ever talked to each other the way men talk to each other in this novel. I asked a number of men to be sure and they all wet their pants laughing at excerpts from it. I get the fantasy here is that groups of male friends are emotionally intelligent but ffs these guys were basically talking like licensed couples therapists and had waaaaaaay too much interest in their buddy’s sex life. A shred of realism would have been appreciated. And Thea. Don’t get me started on Thea. The reader is told over and over again she is ‘feisty and impulsive’ but the only evidence ever offered to support this is that she once chained herself to a tree in college (pretty sure college kids have moved on in their activism since the sixties…), she enjoys sex (the horror!) and hates every other woman in the novel other than her sister because they’re boring, stay at home mums who gave up their careers for their husbands and didn’t go to college….whilst being a stay at home mum, who gave up her career for her husband and didn’t finish her degree. We’re also told she’s an ‘artist’ but at no point are we told what kind of art she makes, what medium, what her inspiration is etc. Instead the reader is treated to pages long interludes of her waxing lyrical over Washi tape. Mmhmm. For all the author goes on about ‘backstory’ she could have given Thea some (other than daddy issues…). If you’re looking for a romcom there is infinitely better material out there – read those instead!
Wow. So far, what a bitch!
Heroine behaving badly in the face of an insanely sweet hero.
Read for the earnest but clueless hero who may be built like a manly brick house, but inside is a sweet boy with a stutter. Also read for the overly cutesy, but still fun coterie of bromancers that help the H find his way back to heroine’s heart and bed via a Regency romance.
Marriage in Peril.
The H doesn’t take it well that his beloved has been faking it for three years. Yes, he’s phoned it into the relationship on occasion, but she, in turn, has faked their sex life for years.
The H, desperately in love with his wife and little family, grovels his way back home for a trial month.
The heroine is closed off and bitchy when he doesn’t try, and is closed off and snippy when he does try. Her selfish and sabotaging little sister doesn’t help either. Al
Finally, finally we get to the HEA when the heroine wakes up to the fact that she has been sabotaging their relationship as well and accepts a little responsibility.
I really did not care for the heroine or her sister, but will definitely keep going with the series as there are some interesting side characters I hope get their own story.
I enjoyed this book because it gave us a different perspective on romance. It was rather humorous in a delightful way.
It just didn’t keep my attention. I didn’t finish it.
Fun and quick read
A fun light read
Different that typical romance novels I read. I enjoyed it especially the ending.
3.5 bumped to 4. This is the first book by Ms Adams that I’ve read. It won’t be the last. She knows how to get the reader involved in her story with funny and engaging characters, a little bit of an off-the-wall group of guys, and just the right amount of hang-ups. The Bromance Club is a fun read that has a definite serious side.
Gavin and Thea have their hang-ups and those are now affecting their marriage. That, along with some recent revelations has their world falling apart. Thea takes the conventional route to solve those problems. She wants a divorce. Gavin? Nope, his teammates on the MLB Nashville Legends won’t let him. To his horror, he discovers there is a group of his friends that have been there, done that, and come out stronger on the other side by unconventional methods. Hence, the Bromance Club was born.
It’s fun to watch Gavin try to save his marriage while Thea is counting down the days until she’s out. Gavin is being coached by his bros, but Thea’s sister, Liz, is working overtime to make sure she doesn’t cave. Who will win in the end? Gavin or Thea? If Gavin wins it could be a win for both of them.
I loved it! Can’t wait for the next book in the series.
Lov d it, will read it again
I loved this book. The duel story lines of historical romance and modern day romance was captivating. It was heart-warming, realistic and laugh out loud funny. The characters came to life. I read straight through and immediately bought the second book in the series. I can’t wait to read it.
This is a different spin on romance from a guy’s perspective. Laugh out loud funny- I couldn’t put it down! I hope there is a sequel!
If only MORE men would read romance novels…
.
In this book, a group of Alpha males get together a read romance novels in order to better understand women. When one of their friend’s marriage is on the rocks, the book club swoops in to help him out.
.
What a truly EXCELLENT premise. I read the blurb for this book and immediately added it to my library queue, decided I couldn’t wait 14 weeks and purchased it instead. It definitely lives up to the hype; an adorable romantic comedy with well-developed characters and an original plot, there’s no way NOT to love this book.
Real people with unexplored backstories and what that means to make their marriage work for both of them. Loved the supporting cast, and can’t wait to read Mack and Liv’s story – it will be a hoot. This goes on my all time favorites lists.
