Good cerebral mystery, keeps you guessing. Just when you think you know what’s going on, you read something that brings doubt with it. The story moves along at a good clip, very difficult to put down.
The only reason I couldn’t give the full five stars is the ending, the epilogue to be exact, after the build up it falls kind of flat. Seemed that it was either rushed, or was an afterthought.
I really did not like this book. It was difficult to get into and although I kept trying I finally gave in and didn’t finish.
I stayed up all night to finish this book! Somehow, even the slow parts made me keep reading. Engaging story. Ending with an unexpected twist. Great beach read.
This book was unreal!! I was literally shouting “no way!” out loud as I was reading it! So clever and well written. Twists that you will never see coming! Highly recommended!
Have you ever eaten a jelly donut that wasn’t properly filled? That’s THE BROKEN ONES, you’re half way through it before you get to what you came for. First half of the book was dry and had me ready to put it away. Then “You will get to know me” happens, and I had to finish.
Excellent, engrossing story by an author who never lets you down.
Couldn’t put it down
This book had me on edge while I was reading it! Great page turner!
A tiny hair from being perfect.
Unpredictalble ending…..Just when you think you’ve solved it, you are wrong….
Talk about twisted! This book will keep you guessing. The big reveal…WOW!
This is a great read that keeps you guessing and turning pages. I enjoyed it very much!
Twas depressing, but I finished it.
I think the author did a great job of conveying just how wrenchingly hard it is to cope with a mother who, frankly, had no business having a child. Some readers may feel this is exaggerated, but this is actually a pretty accurate picture of a narcissistic mother as she ages, and how she makes life hell for her adult child.
There are enough hints planted throughout the book from the very beginning that I wasn’t surprised at the big twist. I wasn’t put off by anticipating it before the actual reveal. I was, however, a little bothered at the sudden shift of gears more than 2/3 of the way through the book, when the perspective changes to that of another character, though I’m not sure how she could have been introduced sooner without giving the whole thing away. It just felt disjointed and interrupted the flow, even though it was necessary to answer many of the questions that had been building.
Aside from that, I found the ending satisfying, even though it involved a somewhat unbelievable shift in character for the protagonist. The story is mostly well-written, but I felt it could have used more judicious editing.
A good idea was ruined by the indecisive, self-pitying lead character. While able to analyze everything that was wrong in her life, she continued that life ad nauseum.
Proofreading (or lack of) is my constant pet peeve of e-books. Should be peace of mind, not “piece of mind.”
slow but steady build of characters and the story was different.
Depressing
Not bad though somewhat predictable. It kept my interest.
This book was boring.
