This book was pure genius and really gripped me right from the start. It sets your mind thinking about what is really going on like any good thriller. I felt for all the characters and I could not put this book down. Whenever I tried it kept calling me back. So many twists and turns this book will keep you guessing. Absolutely perfect.
This story gives new meaning to the term “Bad Mother”. I don’t like to tell too much of the story because I think it spoils it for new readers. Why bother reading it if the review is going to tell it? I will just say that children can be scarred even into adulthood by the horrible acts of the parent. But there’s more to this story because it’s also a mystery, which makes it even more interesting and even frightening at times. When the secrets are revealed the answer to the mystery becomes clear at last. Told in first person singular makes it possible for the reader to experience the feelings of the story tellers and explains the reasons for their actions. A very good story.

I liked the surprising ending.
The Broken Ones by author Sarah A. Denzil delivered a surprising twist! From the time I started reading the book until it ended, I was immersed. Sophie is caregiver to her mother with early onset Alzheimer’s.She has never felt loved by her mother but is determined to take care of her for as long as possible. She has put any relationships aside in the consuming responsibilities of working at a preschool each day and then home to her unappreciative mother. I won’t post spoilers, but when odd things start happening you naturally assume Sophie has a stalker due to her one encounter with an online date. Sophie’s mother does have times of lucid thinking, so maybe her Mom is doing these things to frustrate Sophie. But…who or what is the Shadow ??
This is a very good Suspense and Mystery and from the ending I hope there is a second book!
I really wasn’t fond of the character in this book. Until the end when the mystery was revealed.
A very enjoyable read.
The overall plot was ok, but the “twist” wasn’t believable.
A quick read but interesting
Yes, awesome read. I didn’t want to put it down. Really weird. Who would have guessed who was whom and did what!
I did not care for this book because of the foul language in it. So I stopped reading it and did not finish. I like cleaner books.
Very slow moving. I was unable to get into the book.
Alright man Sarah Denzil did it again…. she got me again, this was a twist I wasn’t suspecting the ending or story line at all! I really thought that I had figured it out at about 37 percent but I was not right at all, not even close…. if you really like mysteries I am telling you she is an author for you !!! I feel I’m pretty good at riddles and things but her books have kept me on my toes and kept me guessing the whole time !!!! They suck you in and won’t let you go … read this in two days because I couldn’t put it down!
Started but quit. Too dark.
Strange story with some twists and weird happenings
What a plot twist and then “Bam!” what an unexpected ending. Kept me reading on the edge of my seat to see what was really going on and how would it play out.
a very intense page turner.
I literally couldn’t stop until I finished this read. I was trying to solve who and how clear until the end.
Too pathetic (and I don’t mean exhibiting pathos). Too unreal.
3.75 stars, rounded up.
Chilling and well paced, I started it and couldn’t put it down. I almost thought for a few moments it was veering towards horror. The dysfunctional mom/daughter relationship was hard to read, but well written. The lost stars come from the twist (easily seen coming) and the rushed ending. Still, I highly recommend it for a cloudy weekend afternoon!
Read it in 2-4 hours flat…in one sitting… riveting…
