It was on the winding rural road, in the middle of a downpour, and a woman was sitting inside—the woman who was killed. She’s been trying to put the crime out of her mind; what could she have done, really? It’s a dangerous road to be on in the middle of a storm, and she probably would have been hurt herself if she’d stopped. Not only that, her husband would be furious if he knew she’d broken her promise not to take that shortcut home.
But since then, she’s been forgetting every little thing. Where she left the car; if she took her pills; even the alarm code.
The only thing she can’t forget is that woman, the woman she might have saved, and the terrible nagging guilt.
And the silent calls she’s receiving, or the feeling that someone’s watching her…
You won’t be able to put down B. A. Paris’s The Breakdown, the next chilling, propulsive novel from the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of Behind Closed Doors.

Not at all impressed……
This book!!! I admittedly was annoyed with Cass for most of the book. While I tried to find sympathy for her—I ended up more with an eye-rolling attitude. She made it very difficult to decide what was important and what wasn’t. What was real and what wasn’t. So in the end, I was SO pleasantly surprised!!!!
B. A. Paris is amazing and I will eagerly await her next book!!!
A real page turner – I couldn’t put it down. Reminded me of GONE GIRL and GIRL ON THE TRAIN.
Loved it!
I got about a third of the way into the reading when I decided it was too angst ridden for my taste. I couldn’t finish it.
This was a great book that kept me reading, even though I figured out the twist early on. It had a imaginative surprise at the end.
A few less hang up phone calls would have made the plot line less plodding in parts
Loved it!
Really liked it!
Like both authors books
Yes this plot line has been done before, and yes it is a little predictable…but with that being said, it was a very good read and it keeps you interested until the very end.
I will look for more from this author as it was very well written.
This is the second book by this author I’ve read. Both of her books were very good. I couldn’t put the book down. I recommend it highly..
Predictable and dull
Great read.
Great book! Her first one was good also, but a little grim. This one was so good!
Now this book should be heavily promoted!! Much better than the ones getting all the shout outs lately.
This should be read in a quiet room, no Interruptions or people chatting at you…. you might glare at them with a manic look.
The paranoia creeps into this book and slowly builds and envelopes you. Lots of atmosphere and well drawn characters.
At first, I thought Cass was a high strung dependent person but she had been through a lot of personal crisis and I really can’t say much more without spoiling it!! And the situations can be interpreted more than one way…..keeps you guessing.
I wasn’t sure about people and then began looking at everyone and questioning their loyalties…”.just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean ” you are nuts…or safe….
Could not put this book down, wouldn’t put it down…..i had to know the ending!!
I am absolutely a life-long fan of this author! Her debut novel “Behind Closed Doors”, was gripping, exciting, just plain awesome! And this book is terrific! I thought I had it all worked out, Cass was very forgetful, and at first I thought perhaps it was early onset dementia as her mother had had dementia at age 44. Then I thought maybe it was the recent murder causing her anxiety. I also thought perhaps it was her husband, who might be having an affair and wants to get her put away. But every time I thought I had it worked out, another twist appeared. I absolutely did not expect the ending. I read this book in 2 days. It was gripping and exciting from page one. I cannot wait for more from this author.
