What happens when Mr Right goes rogue?Lara doesn’t have a back-up plan. So when her safe-bet boyfriend Lucien dumps her for her best friend, Lara’s world implodes. Life after the break up stretches bleakly ahead, lonely evenings on the sofa with only a bottle of wine and her grey cat Fluffy for company… giving other people great nights out before coming home in the early hours and unwinding with his loyal cat Satchmo.
What they don’t know is that it’s the same cat.
And when they find out, standing in the streets in their pyjamas, both on the hunt for their lost pet, sparks of the wrong sort fly.
Lara can’t deny that Theo is one of the most gorgeous men she’s ever met, but she can see exactly why he’s still single. They do say opposites attract… but is she ready to move on? And when Lucien comes back into the picture, will she be tempted back to her life before the break up, or risk everything on the chance of something new?
A wonderfully warm will-they-won’t-they romantic read that will have you laughing one minute and crying the next. If you’re a fan of Jill Mansell and Carole Matthews, The Break Up is the love story you’ve been waiting for.

I thought that this was a charming rom-com. I enjoyed Lara’s “can-do” spirit and liked that she didn’t spend time moping around about her situation. Her emotions were realistic and she was not annoying (the way some rom-com heroines can be). I thought that the romance took a while to get off the ground, but it was nice that it wasn’t all rushed together. The pacing allowed for a pleasant, leisurely read. And I loved what a genuinely good guy Theo turned out to be. Altogether, this was a delightful read. For a full review, please visit my blog at Fireflies and Free Kicks. A delightfully dramatic way to meet and a prickly relationship begins!

I loved the arc of this story, despite the less attractive side most of the characters show as they tussle and argue. Their faults made them more realistic and, for the lead characters, more sympathetic and relatable. Using a cute cat to force the leads to interact was a brilliant stroke (although said cat did not really seem to care).
I was so in accord with heroine Lara for turning her back on Lucien and Siobhan after the way they treated her. Egotistical Lucien’s villainy oozes through the story and causes major upheaval. Lara has a pretty sharp tongue that alienates almost everyone at some point, even her mum! But I liked her nevertheless, through all her heartache, disappointment, hurt, distrust and some frightful client behavior; it seems her young assistant Betsy and Fluffy the tabby saw through Lara’s defenses to her big heart. Jazz musician Theo repeatedly shows his unpleasant side as well, especially in the early part of the story, but he does offer sympathy and a supporting hand when needed and think the world of his cat Satchmo, who’s a bit of an opportunist, moving from human to human as the spirit moves him.
The Break Up is not a grand romance, per se, but a satisfying, quiet connection takes hold despite a whole array of obstacles and the ending is both hopeful and humorous. I really like the author’s adroit hand at creating a community of characters who I could imagine living in MY neighborhood. Their tale definitely kept my interest beginning to end and I’m eager to sample more of the author’s work.

This book started out on a sad note when Lara finds out her boyfriend, Lucien, was cheating on her with her best friend. But the book quickly turned around to a lot of positive changes took place in Lara’s life.
Lucien always put Lara down when she spoke of her dream career, so after the breakup, Lara decided to start her own business as a wedding planner. On the night of the breakup, a stray cat started coming by Lara’s house. Lara named the cat Fluffy. But it turned out Fluffy was a neighborhood cat and Theo, a jazz musician who lived in Lara’s neighborhood, also claimed Fluffy as his cat, only naming him Satchmo. The night Lara and Theo met, when Lara was looking for Fluffy/Satchmo, wasn’t a good first impression. In fact, they ended up disliking each other immediately. But as Lara and Theo found themselves working at the same weddings, they eventually began a friendship that soon grew into romance. Because Fluffy/Satchmo was the one who brought Lara and Theo together, he remained the center of attention and was an important part of the story.
This was a fun book to read, but it could be very emotional in parts. I liked the author’s writing style. She created believable characters with real life struggles and an interesting story line. I admired Lara’s strength and how she handled the breakup and moved on to live her dream. I also enjoyed the relationship between Lara and Theo, through their ups and downs and misunderstandings, that eventually led to a happy ending. This book is a good one for anyone who loves romance and cats.
The Break up by Tilly Tennant a five-star read that you won’t want to break up with. This is sweet and romantic story, that will make you want to curl up with a book a hot cuppa and a cat (or a similar substitute). Lara and Theo will just make you smile, and Betsi will just add to the smiles as well, just in a different way. I didn’t know what I was going to write about this one if I’m honest as it did go on in a couple of places, and I did drift, and I just hated one or two of the characters, but in the end it was simply magic and it made up for the drops in every way.
