Not realistic but that’s why we read novels. I was very sad for several of the characters but in the end things did resolve well
Families are many times difficult at best but this family is a real trip. I appreciate the strength and endurance the heroine displayed in going after what was rightfully hers and finding love.
Excellent story – 5 stars! Rose is Cinderella’s sister-from-another-mister…
Another winner from Mimi Jean Pamfiloff! The Boyfriend Collector is an updated retelling of a classic tale – with an extra-twisty path, OF COURSE. I’ve read many books from Mimi Jean (loved them all), and you’ve got to accept the fact that you have NO idea what’s about to happen. Even when you think you do. I LOVE it!
This is a modern, fresh faced Cinderella story featuring a sweet -but-strong heroine and her reluctant-but-charmed hero. It’s incredibly easy to like and root for Rose – she’s had her entire life turned upside down, but she’s a fighter determined to get justice for her mother and herself. Despite her sheltered upbringing and the perils of the path she sets for herself, Rose will do what it takes to survive and find her own Happily Ever After. With all the curves and adventures, it’s still easy to recognize the fantastic “girl power” current running throughout the story as Rose comes into her own and learns to trust herself.
This is a very easy read told in the first person; the story is emotional, clever, and unexpected. Note that this book is part 1 of 2 in a duet, and while it doesn’t end in a cliffhanger, you’ll need to read both parts to get the FULL story. But there’s little waiting involved as book 2 comes out in a few short weeks!
Love, Lies and Mimi’s Token Snark
Raised in the lap of luxury but purposely excluded from it, Rose Marie Hale isn’t your typical heiress. Raised by nannies and tutors who never lasted longer than a few weeks under her grandparents guardianship since birth, Rose has isolated from her peers, without any true attachments.
Sharing a room room with another member of the staff, forced to earn her keep since she was a teenager, while grandma Gertie and Grandpa Melvil enjoy a life of leisure. This is all according to the wishes of her mother left in her will so she would understand humility and how to handle all she will inherit upon her 21st Birthday. There is one problem it’s all a lie, and now she has just 4 weeks to find a “suitable” husband or her grandparents will gain complete control of her trust fund and she will be truly destitute. Desperate to live up to her mother’s wishes as well as beat her grandparent she tries to enlists the help of therapist Dr Bexley Hughes.
In this modern day Cinderella story, Rose tries to outwit her grandparents, find true love in 30 days, and figure out who she can trust. Once again Mimi Jean delivers a twisty tail where nothing is what is seems, assumptions are more than likely incorrect, and surprises are just a page turn away. Will Rose get her happily ever after or will her family win? Packed with the snark and brilliant 1 liners like “you look like an avocado with syphilis” and ending on a minor cliffhanger The Boyfriend Collector leaves you anxious for the finale in book 2 set to come out later this month.
Rose is naive and doesn’t understand or know what darkness lurks out in the world. A loosely based Cinderella story. With so many twists, betrayal and lies. This book was so good.
This book is an amazing display of Mimi’s flexibility when it comes to writing. I loved reading this book so much. It’s like Cinderella but with a twist. I can’t wait to see what’s next for Rose.
This is the start to another great series that now leaves me wanting to know what will happen next. For this Cinderella type story, I was hooked from page one wanting to know and rooting for Rose to come out on top. I liked watching her come into her own as she started to figure things out now that she is no longer under her ‘evil’ grandparent’s control. She became stronger as a character by the end of the book especially once she admitted and came to terms with her feelings for Bex, even when they were not returned. I liked how she was determined to stick to her plan to ‘find her man’ and did not stray from her original goal or plan once she made them. I am curious to see what Bex will do now that he has had an awakening about how he feels about Rose after denying it throughout the whole book. There were a few twists in this first installment but I enjoyed this book from page one and I look forward to seeing what comes next.
Omg! This was an amazing story! This is less a steamy romance and more a girl trying to make her way in the world. I like the steamy romances as much as the next girls but this is definitely a must read! Though it’s a loose take on a Cinderella story, Rose and Bex’s story is no fairytale. He’s her therapist and she’s trying to find a husband in under 30 days. Can’t go wrong, right? But what happens when the one man you want, seems unreachable? Oh yeah, and there’s a twist. Love it!!
5 stars!!
Lots of fun and high jinx in this one as Rose has the time of her life as she tries to choose that special guy who is just right for her….but not everything always goes as planned. And will Bex be any help at all?
This book has unexpected twists, rogues and gentleman but which are which, I couldn’t put it down. There’s an intriguing story behind each of her boyfriends, and there’s going to be some interesting revelations to come I’m sure….I just don’t have any idea what they could be!
I loved this book and I now have to wait patiently for part two.
…And you think you have problems. Being wealthy does not solve Rose’s problems, it compounds her already complicated life. What’s an emotionally neglected and abused woman to do? Why to seek the help of a psychologist. A very sexy emotionally reserved therapist that has his own ‘daddy’ issues. Can Rose learn to move beyond her isolation? Can she grow to trust herself and others? These some of the questions that need to be addressed before Rose can become her own woman.
So sit back, relax and find a comfy couch, and let the analysis begin…
A modern day Cinderella story brilliantly blends with The Dating Game (sorry millennials, I refuse to watch The Bachelorette).
I love Rose. She may be very naïve about the darkness that lurks in those around her and she may be a fish out of water in the dating waters but she is also wickedly self-aware when it matters. Determined to rescue herself but knowing she will need help leads her to Dr. Hughes. She doesn’t want therapy, she wants a dating coach. He is hesitant but she is determined to succeed, with his help. He refuses to be her knight or her wingman, but when it really matters – that armor of his is awfully shiny, until it’s not. She must marry by her twenty-first birthday in order to inherit her mother’s legacy. Can she find love and take over her mother’s estate as planned or will the legacy she inherits be that of The Boyfriend Collector? Are you confused yet? Read the book and you won’t be.
This story sucked me in from the start and kept me glued to my chaise lounge in my naughty library until I finished. I knew going in this was a duet with the second book to be released in the near future but I couldn’t help but shout out, “NO! I need more!” at the end. Mimi is the Mistress of plot twists that keeps me begging for more while also causing me and my book buddy to swap – “Damn It, Mimi!” texts with each other.
The Boyfriend Collector is a fun take on a Cinderella story that has an interesting cast of characters and a few little twists and turns guaranteed to keep you entertained until the very end. Rose Hale is the daughter of a famous romance novelist who died during childbirth. A unique will stipulation requires the young Rose to marry by her 21st birthday so that she will have access to her inheritance. However, things are not so easy. Throw in an evil set of greedy, manipulative grandparents and a series of questionable dates and you have a recipe for not exactly disaster, but well yes, disaster.
I loved Rose. Given her horrible upbringing, you couldn’t help but be in awe of her positive attitude and sweet nature. She’s a bit naive (and also a bit wary) when it comes to dating and that is part of what made this book so entertaining. Bex is Rose’s therapist who has a process. A process that cannot be deviated from. He is dedicated towards giving his clients the tools they need to be their own hero and it was endearing to watch him struggle with his rigidness and maintaining that professional boundary between him and Rose.
The book has it humorous moments as well as some moments of suspense. It moves at a good pace and has an intriguing storyline. The various potential suitors were entertaining.
Plot is too far-fetched and unbelievable. A girl who was raised by her grandparents was more-or-less their slave. They control her money, but if she marries by her 21st birthday, she inherits her money. The ending is left unresolved because you have to read the next book to find out the outcome. I didn’t have enough interest to purchase the 2nd book.
Survived, strong and loved…
Rose live a true existence of Cinderella. Her grandparents deprived her of a life her mother who died in childbirth wanted her to have. Her coming out party is when she yelled and screamed. Bex came to the rescue. She started dating but realized Bex was who she really loved. But everything gets messed up that one dreadful night.
ODD
Cinderella like story. Mean, hateful family. Unrealistic as far as I’m concerned but who knows. I do not want to waste any more time or money on the series.
I dislike books that end in the middle of the story.
I really liked this modern “Cinderella” story, although I think she could use a little work in the steamy Dept! This was unpredictable, and rarely boring! I read both and another of hers and will happily pick up a few more here and there!!
I liked reading this story but then it just ended. Out of nowhere, nothing. I hated the ending because there was no ending. Like the author just decided to walk away. Very frustrating to say the least.
Loved it but was disappointed it was a two part book.
Not a stand alone – have to wait on the sequel.
