Nina Borg, a Red Cross nurse, wife, and mother of two, is a compulsive do-gooder who can’t say no when someone asks for help — even when she knows better. When her estranged friend Karin leaves her a key to a public locker in the Copenhagen train station, Nina gets suckered into her most dangerous project yet. Inside the locker is a suitcase, and inside the suitcase is a three-year-old boy: naked … naked and drugged, but alive.
Is the boy a victim of child trafficking? Can he be turned over to authorities, or will they only return him to whoever sold him? When Karin is discovered brutally murdered, Nina realizes that her life and the boy’s are in jeopardy, too. In an increasingly desperate trek across Denmark, Nina tries to figure out who the boy is, where he belongs, and who exactly is trying to hunt him down.

Great characters, interesting plot, well written mystery. I will definitely be looking for more by Lene Kaaberol and Agnete Friis.
This is a terrific, fast-paced, pulse-pounding crime thriller.
Nina Borg is a Red Cross nurse in Copenhagen. She is also part of network that help illegal immigrant women and their children. She’s thought of as a do-gooder. It’s difficult for her to refuse to help.
When her estranged friend, Karin, plops down a key in front of Nina and says she’s …
It’s an excellent book, fascinating and exciting. The pace of events is right. At first, it is a bit difficult to understand how the characters connected each other and to the crime that was committed, but that is what causes the matter and additional tension. I managed to relate with the characters, especially the child and Nina, who is trying to …
Keeps you guessing.
Very different. Unusual. Good reading
This is a well-paced, hard-to-put-down story that stayed with me long after I finished reading it.
A very satisfying story. Loved the ending.
It was ok but will not read other books by this author
The main character’s actions go against everyone, she shows great determination.
Difficult to get into. Story jumped around a lotl so took time to figure out all the parties. Very strange ending. Left me with a lot of questions.
Outcome was total surprise. Addresses the issues of Human Trafficking
Good premise but hard to follow. Lack of usial punctuation ( ie: paragraphs, capitals, chapters. ). Would not buy these authors books again! lauralea
This book will keep you engaged till the end. Denmark is a place facing current “front page” issues of immigration and sex trafficking. When a social worker – whose call to do good overshadows family obligations – once again is involved in a plea for help, she encounters much more than she could ever imagine.
So begins the chase to find answers …
I traveled often in Sweden and enjoy books set in the Scandinavian countries. It it quite reflective of Swedish lifestyles aside from the plots.
This book was hard to follow because of so many storylines, but I stuck it out to discover the surprise ending. Nina is a little unbelievable.
Actually, I didn’t finish it. Convoluted and highly unrealistic plot.
Very good. I couldn’t put it down.
This is a tense thriller that I thoroughly enjoyed.
I enjoyed the story line very much. Have now read several of her books.
Well written thriller that keeps you guessing. Interesting characters and the way the tale unfolds keeps the suspense intact until the end.
