Two young boys encounter the best and worst of humanity during the Holocaust in this powerful read that USA Today called “as memorable an introduction to the subject as The Diary of Anne Frank.” Berlin, 1942: When Bruno returns home from school one day, he discovers that his belongings are being packed in crates. His father has received a promotion and the family must move to a new house far, … must move to a new house far, far away, where there is no one to play with and nothing to do. A tall fence stretches as far as the eye can see and cuts him off from the strange people in the distance.
But Bruno longs to be an explorer and decides that there must be more to this desolate new place than meets the eye. While exploring his new environment, he meets another boy whose life and circumstances are very different from his own, and their meeting results in a friendship that has devastating consequences.

I finished the book a week ago, and I still find myself thinking about it. I felt so emotionally charged while reading it and precisely because of the simple language and innocence bordering detachment of reality – perhaps just because of this; adults can find themselves more captivated by the charm of this book.
Nine-year-old Bruno returns from …
For those that don’t believe.
A charming story of two unlikely friends. I was fascinated by the realism of the relationship and the motivations of each characters. A great story with a heart-stopping ending.
This book became one of my favorites. I loved the characters, I nearly cried at the end. I love the fact that the children were oblivious to the world around them. Everyone hated each other and these two boys couldn’t figure out why. I love the emotional awaking and outlook this book leaves you. It has a great message shown to you by two eight …
Sad, tragic, haunting. These three words are what explains the book. Am I the only one that was halfway through the book and couldn’t resist it any longer and HAD to go to the ending to find out what happened?! This book is definitely tear-jerking 100%.
This is the story of a little 9 year old boy named Bruno. Bruno and his family have just moved to
“Out With” – away from their comfortable home in Berlin. Bruno is unhappy about the move, but because his father is not a “Commandment” in the Germany army, the family had no choice. Their new house is smaller than what Bruno and his sister, …
The boy in the title is a Jewish boy held in a concentration camp. He makes friends with a German boy, not just any German boy, but the son of a powerful military man assigned to the area. As the German boy visits, he does not really understand what is going on in the camp or why the boy can’t “come out to play.” He also does not understand the …
A different slant on the Holocaust, showing their dealing with life after the war
This book is haunting and portrays the horror of the Nazi attempt at extermination of the Jews. The sad twist of the story is unforgettable.
another book that was on my granddaughters reading list—–short but not an easy read—–we always underrate the strength of our children—–amazing book
Have tissues ready. I supposed I don’t really need to say that, but seriously.
I found this to be touching and horrifying all at the same time. I liked how easily Bruno made friends with Schuel, how it didn’t matter to him what Schuel looked like or what he wore, only that he was nice and the same age and they liked each other.
It really made …
i love this book and i recommend this book 100%

The story of these two boys and the events surrounding their friendship gives you an overview of how things might of happened during this time frame. It gives you a sense of history and feelings toward how things were back then. It answers many questions you may have had about this history.

Haunting and unforgettable – ripped my heart out – characters still live in my heart
It was the most frightening book I have ever read. . My mom forbid me too read it,but I didn’t listen, and I ended up crying in school. But in the end,it was a awesome book. Bravo!
i dont know have not read it yet…
I think this book brings a thought provoking ending to a story that could’ve just been a happily ever after.
I though it was a good book about a Nazi kid wanting to be a friend with a Muslim 🙂
