According to the law of attraction, women and men can’t be friends.Contrary to this myth, my friendship with Coriander Phillips does not rest on unrequited love or un-actualized lust. We’ve been inseparable since the day I pulled one of her pigtails and she punched me in the gut. She’s hilarious, fun to hang out with. Together, we’re like peanut butter and jelly, spaghetti and meatballs, wings and … spaghetti and meatballs, wings and beer. A match made in heaven.
She’s the bomb.
Did I mention she’s smokin’ hot? I’ve checked her out…maybe once or twice. Hey, I’m a guy.
Seriously, no awkwardness, no secret yearning for our relationship to escalate beyond the purely platonic. I’m the boy friend—the loyal shoulder she cries on, the dispenser of coffee, sympathy, hugs, advice, and affection with no expectations.
Until the invisible line between friends and lovers became blurry.
Now I want more. I want her.
All I have to do is convince her we can be more than friends.
Right?
If only it were that easy.

My favorite trope is friends to lovers and Mika Jolie delivers that and so much more in The Boy Friend. Written with witty good humor and all the steaminess a girl could ask for, this is a must read book in the contemporary romance world. I’ll say it again: Must. Read.
I wasn’t sure I’d enjoy a one-person POV since I haven’t read one in awhile, but I love having the guy’s POV! Dean is such a complex yet simple character, and his wit makes this book.
The Boy Friend: A Friends to Lovers Romantic Comedy (Platonically Complicated Book 1)
ARC REVIEW
Dean and Coriander
This was one of those books that I read in one sitting… I just gobbled it up. I laughing a lot, cried a bit, and was frustrated at Dean a bunch. A great book that gets all the stars.
Dean is a player who has a female best friend. This friends to lovers story begins when Cori tells Dean she is ready for the “the whole thing” (marriage, baby, and everything that goes with it) and that she is going to make it happen. The result is Dean beginning to grow up and evaluate what it would mean if he was not the number one man in her life. I loved Cori’s confidence, her quiet heart and her inner beauty. I loved reading as Dean comes to some realizations, falls head over heels, and gets his girl. This story is written in first person from Dean’s POV. There is benefit to this POV as Dean might be unlikable from anyone else’s POV, but he accepts that he is not always the nicest or smartest guy. The result is the reader feels like he is trying and understands his mind set. This book is at times steamy, poignant, and emotional. I was captivated by these friends who connect on a forever level.
Do yourself a favor: Get. This. Book.
It is worth every penny.
This story is really well written, has characters that are created with tantalizing depth and a captivating story line.
It grabs you right from the start keeping you engrossed and turning page after page throughout the whole book!

This was an interesting take on friends to lovers. It was completely told in the male’s POV. I enjoyed watching Dean struggle between the decision to cross or not cross the line with his best friend. I was pleasantly surprised as he was definitely an Alpha, but extremely sweet. Of course as I was reading I wanted to also know what Cori was thinking too.
I love EVERY SINGLE THING about this book. I have tried for days to read it but things like work and sleep got in the way, not today – I love it being told from Dean’s POV and you could feel his rollercoaster ride to falling in love with Cori, then you have Cori who is completely relatable. There are times reading this book where your jaw drops or you’re gripping your kindle in the death grip. It’s that good.
My only hope is maybe finding out if the thing that Cori wanted to begin with happens for them???
Still I do HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you make time and enjoy Dean and Cori on their adventure we call love.

I wanted to like this book the plot sounded great but after the first chapter I found myself skipping parts and I hate that I like to finish books not half read them. Dean was over the top love them and leave them type who makes everything about him what a sex God he is how hot he is how well you get the picture he doesn’t have any respect for females can’t even remember half his conquest it was just ugly he need to be way less of all those things even when he wakes up and realizes that the girl for him is his best friend it takes getting her into the sack to get him on board with them being together. And Cori she needed more of a personality more depth everything was told strictly from Dean’s point of view. This book had some errors it also had some funny moments it just seemed like a work in progress.
I was allowed to read and advance copy of this book via Booksprout and this is my honest review.
Cori and Dean have been best friends since elementary school. He’s there trough countless heart breaks, he’s that shoulder she leans on. He’s your typical player, not one to settle down. Until Cori drops a bomb on him, she wants to have a baby and is ready to settle down, this news don’t sit well with him and this is where all the fun begins. FYI this book is told from a male point of view. I loved it and so will you.

I loved this book and this is not a new author for me but what a joy it was to read this!
It was funny, witty and sassy with a little bit of hotness rolled in a laugh! It will hug your soul….
But…
I’m not sure everyone wants a BOY FRIEND like this!!! Listen when writing from a guys point of view it can be tricky but this was a good story just the guy was not someone I would have liked. I mean didn’t he learn from the first go round? Please do not answer the question it was rhetorical. It was a good story. It was worth the investment as I love all of your work. Would I recommend this story? Sure!

This best friend forever to lovers romance has great characters and storyline. Cori and Dean have known each other since she punched him in the stomach when they were in elementary school. Dean is a financial genius who doesn’t want to settle down. Cori is an artist who converted her old farmhouse into her studio gallery. She teaches kids about art twice a week at her former elementary school. Cori wants a baby and we get to see Dean’s POV throughout the entire book.

The Boy Friend by Mika Jolie. I thought the story was good. I liked the plot and thought the characters had a good chemistry together. I found this story to be very enjoyable with plenty of drama and strong characters with a lot of history and chemistry. Story moved along quickly but in a good way, made this book an enjoyable and fun read. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Dean and Coriander, or Cori, have been friends since childhood. They have never been intimate or boyfriend/girlfriend. She is best friends with his sister who loves to pal around with Cori. Dean vets the boyfriends Cori shows interest in. Therefore, approaching 28 years old, she has baby fever. She tells Dean, who is stunned and with nothing to say to that. It stays on his mind and he starts to think what that would do to his friendship with her. The story just gets better as it goes on. Must read to know the ending.

Let me start by saying this book is written from the man’s perspective, something unusual for a romance, so you get another perspective on what is happening. Dean and Cori had been friends for 21 years. Cori is almost 28 and Dean almost 30 when she approaches Dean and tells him she wants to have a baby and get married. Dean tells her that he does not want to lose the relationship that they have but agrees to “help” her. The story follows them for the next few months to see how everything plays out. I don’t want to spoil anything so you need to read the book and enjoy the fun.
I gave this book 4.5 stars because it was fun to read and loaded with good times, romance, and heartbreak. The story has an ending but there is another book that follows the story further. I always enjoy Ms Jolie’s stories and this one will not disappoint.

Love this relationship between Cori and Dean, yes he was a bit of a man whore, but she knew she wouldn’t settle to be just his plaything. I liked that the tables were turned for Dean, when he has his come to realization moment, practically panting for Cori. It was fun to read how his parents already knew it was going to happen at some point. Thoroughly entertaining with humor, sexiness and a lot of emotion.

Wow, I think Mika just became one of my favorite authors after this read. It was really fast-paced, flowed like no book I have ever read before. Dean telling the story in the first person with his snarky comments, connotations and eye rolls, had me laughing so hard at this one. I can’t wait to ream more of Mika’s books because this is one of the best I have read in a long while.

It’s a seriously good book. It’s all from Dean’a point of view. Dean and Cori are best friends and have been since they were kids. She decides she want love and a baby. Dean starts seeing her differently as her search begins or at least starts realizing his feelings for her mean something different. It’s fun, cute, has steamy and just all around good. It’s definitely a must read.

A downright witty and erotic story about Dean, who had suddenly realized that he had been having outrageous thoughts about his best friend Cori, to whom he’d developed a huge attraction, is brilliantly told from a male POV.
How do you balance out having sinful thoughts and feelings for your best friend, wanting the relationship to be more, yet being hesitant because you are afraid that if you cross the line it might put your friendship in jeopardy?
Cori was genuinely sweet and uncomplicated while Dean was a charming manwhore; a mr-know- all; dishing out outrageous advice, that made me laughed so hard, I couldn’t stop turning the pages.
The Boy Friend is sensuously hot and steamy and packed with humor. It was fresh and engaging with a lovable hero and heroine and a delightful group of secondary characters who helped to bring a realistic feel to the story and made it flowed smoothly and freely. If you are looking for for a funny, sexy and emotional roller coaster ride then Dean is the man for you… I meant, this is the book for you. I would definitely recommend this book because It has easily became one of my favorites.
Mika Jolie continues to grow. She is one of my favorite authors. Every time I’ve read one of her books, I’d felt like it’s her best one yet and then I get to the next one and I’m doing it all over again. I can honestly say she’s done it again. This is another one of her sizzling masterpiece. How will she ever be able top this one. I’m excited for what’s to come.

These are some notes I wrote down while I was reading this book.
“Boring book, boring guy.
Get out of his mind
I am stuck in his mind and he doesn’t move.
Boring stupid guy”
Dean is self-centered, he doesn’t think in any other person beside what is best for him. To be in his mind during all reading is unbelievable disgust. I kept reading the book because I don’t give up easily, and in my mind, I have started to edit the book.
At least, 50% of this book is about the same subject, the same thoughts, the same situation, the same personal opinion so it is possible to summarize in half the pages. It would be more readable, more lovable.
Then, put two books together in one “The Boy Friend” and “Explicitly Yours” (books 1 and 2) you get the 4-star rate.
“Explicitly Yours” is easier to read (Dean’s thoughts are boring) but here, finally, we have Cori’s point of view and it is much better than his point of view.
The 2 books could share both points of view. It will be easier to read, and maybe easier to like Dean.
