According to the law of attraction, women and men can’t be friends.Contrary to this myth, my friendship with Coriander Phillips does not rest on unrequited love or un-actualized lust. We’ve been inseparable since the day I pulled one of her pigtails and she punched me in the gut. She’s hilarious, fun to hang out with. Together, we’re like peanut butter and jelly, spaghetti and meatballs, wings and … spaghetti and meatballs, wings and beer. A match made in heaven.
She’s the bomb.
Did I mention she’s smokin’ hot? I’ve checked her out…maybe once or twice. Hey, I’m a guy.
Seriously, no awkwardness, no secret yearning for our relationship to escalate beyond the purely platonic. I’m the boy friend—the loyal shoulder she cries on, the dispenser of coffee, sympathy, hugs, advice, and affection with no expectations.
Until the invisible line between friends and lovers became blurry.
Now I want more. I want her.
All I have to do is convince her we can be more than friends.
Right?
If only it were that easy.

I’ve had this book sitting there to read for ages, and I’m kicking myself for taking so long to get to it. I loved this book so much. Devoured it in one sitting.
I really liked that it was from the male POV. It was really fun to read, and the way it was written was very easy to read. The characters were really easy to like, and I’m a sucker for the best friends to lovers trope, so this was an all around win for me.
I’d love to read more about Lucas and Cam, and Kate as well. I hope they get their own books.
Definitely recommend, a really fun and easy to read. Couldn’t put it down.
Loved that it was from the guys point of view. First of the series and I loved it
I really enjoyed reading this book. Dean and Cori are best friends, but along the way something changes. This book is an emotional rollercoaster. I recommend this book.
Dean and Cori have been friends forever. What happens when the friendship line is crossed? Will they work out or will their friendship be ruined?
When a book make you laugh, cry and smile you no those characters will stay with you forever. Dean and Cori’s story is beautiful and heartfelt.
Favorite quote: “Fate has a thousand wiles. Lust is one of them.
A downright witty and erotic story about Dean, who had suddenly realized that he had been having outrageous thoughts about his best friend Cori, to whom he’d developed a huge attraction, is brilliantly told from a male POV.
How do you balance out having sinful thoughts and feelings for your best friend, wanting the relationship to be more, yet being hesitant because you are afraid that if you cross the line it might put your friendship in jeopardy?
Cori was genuinely sweet and uncomplicated while Dean was a charming manwhore; a mr-know- all; dishing out outrageous advice, that made me laughed so hard, I couldn’t stop turning the pages.
The Boy Friend is sensuously hot and steamy and packed with humor. It was fresh and engaging with a lovable hero and heroine and a delightful group of secondary characters who helped to bring a realistic feel to the story and made it flowed smoothly and freely. If you are looking for for a funny, sexy and emotional roller coaster ride then Dean is the man for you… I meant, this is the book for you. I would definitely recommend this book because It has easily became one of my favorites.
Mika Jolie continues to grow. She is one of my favorite authors. Every time I’ve read one of her books, I’d felt like it’s her best one yet and then I get to the next one and I’m doing it all over again. I can honestly say she’s done it again. This is another one of her sizzling masterpiece. How will she ever be able top this one. I’m excited for what’s to come.
This is the first book my Mika Jolie that I have read and I can say with certainty it will not be the last! I was hooked from page one. I loved everything about Dean and Cori. I loved the friendship they had and cherished and I loved the chemistry between them when that friendship started to change. This book was so hot and sexy and when Dean and Cori finally took their friendship to the next level I think my kindle melted a little.
I would definitely recommend this book. And now I am off to grab the next book in the series!
The best friend…I mean The Boy Friend is a super sweet feel good romance. Don’t get me wrong and assume there is no bump in the road. We can’t truly be happy if we’ve never been sad…
The Boy Friend has all your favorite best friend romance issues. The best part is that it’s from his POV. We are all used to reading it from her POV. It’s so much more fun watching guys clueless try and battle their emotions, funny tummy trouble, and jealousy.
The Boy Friend is a fun and sweet read. I am glad I finally succumbed to the need to read it.
Mika Jolie is a new to me author. I must have been living under a rock. I LOVED this book and if you are a fan of friends to lovers, you will too! Dean and Cori have been best friends since they were kids.
As they got older, the dynamics changed. It seems that everyone except Dean and Cori knew they belonged together. The moment when Dean realized he was in love with Cori made me laugh. I loved that the story is told from Dean’s point of view. There were several moments where I wanted to throw my kindle at Dean’s stupidity. Cori was endearing! I absolutely loved Dean and Cori’s friendship, but when Dean finally got his stuff together, they were magic!
There is something completely satisfying about a Rake being brought to his knees by the one. Cori and Dean were meant to be, and it was funs to see them work their way towards each other. This was my first read by this author, and Mika Jolie delivered a great friends to lovers story that I thoroughly enjoyed. I am hoping a Book 2 starring Lucas and Kate is right around the corner.
Oh man! Loved this friends to lovers read by Mika Jolie. Funny, sexy read with heart. Loved the back and forth between Dean and Cori. So good!
This is a great book about friends to lovers romance.
Dean is a cocky womanizer who never lets a woman down in the bed department. But he doesn’t do relationships. At times he is overconfident.
Cori is also a confident woman, but I think that she is secretely wanting him for years. She just isn’t brave enough to say it out loud to Dean.
When jealousy, sex and feelings get in the way of the friendship it is hard to transform from friends to lovers and then to being equal partners in a relationship. Sometimes it is hard to trust, because you know this person to the last bone in his body. You know that he doesn’t do serious, he doesn’t even do relationships, why all of the sudden he wants to have this with me?
So yeah, I liked this book pretty much.
FANTASTIC READ!!!
This is my first book by Mika Jolie but it certainly won’t be my last. This is a great friends to lovers story. I love that it’s told from Dean’s POV. He and Cori have been best friends since they were little. Now, twenty years later, can two best friends cross that line and become something more? Or will sleeping together ruin everything? These characters are well written and the storyline keeps you turning pages. The Boy Friend is a fantastic read you don’t want to miss.
Falling in love – a man’s perspective
The Boy Friend is the first book I have read by Mika Jolie and I look forward to reading more by her. This was a really intriguing romance novel as it’s told entirely in the male perspective – something I haven’t read much of (expect for in m/m romance novels).
Dean Conrad Morello is a player – he loved sex but not settling down let alone dating. His best friend is one Cori (Coriander – love the name!) Phillips and their friendship has spanned 20 years, multiple relationships and a whole lot of beautiful memories. Watching Dean and “reading his mind” as he related what he feels for Cori might be more than a “Boy FRIEND” should is such a delight – and his internal commentary is sweet, romantic and at times typically male (lots of talk about his “lower half” ).
This is a sweet, romantic and interesting take on the whole friends to lovers scenario and it’s one I enjoyed reading, up to the very last chapter. However, what made it frustrating for me in parts was the voice of Dean. 6 months ago this might have been a book I absolutely loved, but in the past few months I’ve read a lot of books by male romance authors and it’s become more obvious to me when a female is writing a man’s POV and hasn’t quite hit the mark. So to have an entire book written solely from Dean’s perspective – while an interesting look into falling in love from a man’s POV – just didn’t fulfil the higher expectations I now hold for male perspectives in romance novels.
In saying all that, this is a fun, romantic read that I really enjoyed and would definitely recommend. And I’m looking forward to reading Dean and Cori’s update in Explicitly Yours.
I want to shout about how much I loved this book, a friends to lovers story told from the male POV. I was fascinated watching the internal struggle as Dean struggles to come to terms with his growing feelings for his lifelong best friend. This book is so well done, I loved the fits and starts and ups and downs, and I especially loved that Coriander (how great is that name!) gave him a run for his money. Cori knew him better than anybody after all, and she was right to be reticent after watching him act like a dog for years. I loved Dean’s male friends and sister, too. I’m hoping we get to see more of them! Wonderful book!
I have never read Mika Jolie before…WHY didn’t anyone tell me what I was missing out on! The Boy Friend just gave me the book hangover of the weekend!
This book, well, it’s simply everything. The cover is yummy, Dean and Cori were amazing, the storyline was excellent, the entire book read like a dream. The titles of each chapter…I LOVED that!
And if this tells you anything, I just read it and as soon as I’m done with this review, I’m going back in for round two!
Friends for twenty years, things change between Dean and Cori when she decides it’s time to start looking for her forever. A husband, a family, the works. Dean is less than thrilled as he knows his time with Cori will change forever once she finds her “lobster”.
While deciding to help Cori on her journey to find her forever, Dean starts to wonder if he could be the one for Cori. Up until now his life has just been woman after woman, no strings attached. His family is pushing him to find the girl of his dreams as they keep asking for grandbabies…and whether or not Cori could be the one to share that life with him.
You know damn well that Dean is going to screw this all up because, hello…men and feelings don’t exactly mix well. Especially when chances are taken and things change. Jealousy rears its ugly head and it makes people sit up and take notice. Everyone else sees what Cori and Dean don’t, they have always been more than just friends. They have spent 20 years acting like a couple. But yet in Dean and Cori’s eyes, they have not. They are strictly friends.
Friends that are just friends…that can never become more…that have never thought about each other in an intimate way. Or have they? Can Dean help Cori to find the one? What will happen to their friendship when that happens? Will their friendship survive Dean and Cori finding their lobsters?
I absolutely love how this was written. Details without being too detailed, in Dean’s POV. Loved it. I actually didn’t want to know Cori’s side of the story, Dean explained it that typical guy way. Saying it without saying it I guess you could say? It was fabulous. And the ending??? Obviously, I can’t tell you but it was a HEA to beat all others!
If you are looking for a friends to lovers romance, THIS is the one for you!!
I absolutely loved this friend to lovers story. I love the fact that it is written from Dean’s POV makes it even better. Dean’s cockiness and sense of humor had me smiling and laughing throughout the book. Cori keeps Dean on his toes and I just love that about her. I felt every emotion of these two characters. This is my first time reading anything by Mika Jolie, but it won’t be the last.
Happy Reading Everyone!!!
