Nina Redmond is a librarian with a gift for finding the perfect book for her readers. But can she write her own happy-ever-after? In this valentine to readers, librarians, and book-lovers the world over, the New York Times-bestselling author of Little Beach Street Bakery returns with a funny, moving new novel for fans of Nina George’s The Little Paris Bookshop. Nina is a literary matchmaker. … Bookshop.
Nina is a literary matchmaker. Pairing a reader with that perfect book is her passion… and also her job. Or at least it was. Until yesterday, she was a librarian in the hectic city. But now the job she loved is no more.
Determined to make a new life for herself, Nina moves to a sleepy village many miles away. There she buys a van and transforms it into a bookmobile — a mobile bookshop that she drives from neighborhood to neighborhood, changing one life after another with the power of storytelling.
From helping her grumpy landlord deliver a lamb, to sharing picnics with a charming train conductor who serenades her with poetry, Nina discovers there’s plenty of adventure, magic, and soul in a place that’s beginning to feel like home… a place where she just might be able to write her own happy ending.

This an adorable read and perfect to curl up on the couch with. Nina is a Librarian who decides to start her own bookshop and has some crazy adventures in the process. Set in England and Scotland with gorgeous imaginary scenery. Lovely story….with a perfect ending.
Maybe it’s because I love Scotland, but I thought this romance was totally charming!
Charming, charming, charming story! Where have I been that I haven’t read Jenny Colgan before? This might be the first book of hers but definitely won’t be the last I’ll be savoring. Nina’s courage–despite her fear and the long years she’s been shy and tucked-away–is both fun and inspiring to watch. And how can you go wrong with a bookstore and Scotland in the same story?!? This book is a treat, and I’m ready for more!
This book screams out to be read especially to those who love reading. The protagonist is living her dream of books, reading and Scotland. Nina loses her job as a Librarian and begins sharing her love of all things books and reading by creating a mobile book store. How Nina starts her business and the people she encounters are part of what makes the story special. She has a knack for suggesting just the right book to each person she meets ot visits her mobile book store. The story entwines her personal life and her love of books to create a perfect storyline. The mixture of characters and friendships are an extra plus for the reader. I am looking forward to more from this author.
Recipe for the Bookshop on the Corner: Take one part Scottish Highlands (I know, I’m obsessed with books set in Scotland!), one part gothic romance, one part Mary Poppins, add a dash of bookish trivia, stir well and read with a sip of Scottish whiskey…
Jenny Colgan has penned another wonderful story! The Bookshop on the Corner is one of the loveliest novels I’ve read in a long time. The Scottish setting is a pure delight; I found a sweetness to the story and an innocence you won’t often find in a mainstream heroine. Still, the book’s strength is in the realistic and very human characters—a quality I’ve rarely encountered in other chick lit or women’s fiction novels. I also loved how much the main character LOVED books and reading. I highly recommend this book, especially for anyone who’s been an avid reader since childhood!
Easy, fun, cozy, and light. I loved the Scottish setting, farms and villages, and quirky cast. Really enjoyed this one!
Set in northern Scotland, this is a great story about a girl from the big city who finds love and happiness in the last place she would have expected. Gorgeous descriptions and great characters.
This was such a sweet story. Wonderful cast of characters and I fell in love with both Scotland and Nina’s Bookshop of Happily-Ever-After.
Humorous and a little heart wrenching as Nina, who takes a leap of faith after losing her librarian job, also has to come to terms with love not always being as perfect as it is in her precious books.
A wonderful story of love, both romantic and for one’s community/self. I look forward to reading more from this author.
Nina Redmond loves to be surrounded by books! Consequently, her job as librarian is perfect for her. She enjoys recommending the perfect book to the visitors there. But when she finds out that the library is closing and she sees all of the books that are being discarded, she rescues the books, filling her home to the brim. Now, she has two problems. First, she will soon be out of a job. Second, her landlord has threatened to throw her out of her book-stuffed place. Nina decides that she should try to do what she has always dreamed of doing: open her own small bookstore. She decides that, maybe, opening a small bookstore within a large van may be just the thing! Soon after, she discovers a charming town in Scotland, and things begin to change!
This is an enchanting, impossible-to-put-down book. I fell in love with the wonderful characters, and, when the book ended, I really missed them! This is a must-read for all book lovers! I love this interesting, funny, fast-paced book!
I defy any book lover not to adore this book! When a librarian loses her job because her library closes, what can she do to rescue all those beloved books, especially when her flat is already filled with a treasure trove of them?
A giant van is available and priced right, but it’s in Scotland. When she tells the locals of her dream, they’re thrilled. With no book stores or libraries in the rural far north, they can’t wait for a mobile book shop! Then she bursts their bubbles when she takes the van home to Birmingham. Meanwhile, a piece of the Highlands has wormed its way into her soul.
Lookout Highlanders! You’re about to be changed by the entrepreneurial efforts of likes of Nina Redmond. She’s going to size you up and pair you with the perfect book. And you know what? You’re not even going to mind. In fact, you’re going to fall in love with her effervescent style that leaves no one untouched!
Loved this book with all it’s charming characters.
It was a nice book filled with great characters.
This is a wonderful book about a young lady finding herself in the Scottish Highlands. We watch her gain confidence in herself as she progresses and the ending is very fitting for the story.
A wonderful and inspirational story. Once again Jenny Colgan introduces us to an amazing world that I would love to be a part of, if only for a visit. Loved the story and the characters, a must read!
This story of a shy librarian who loses her job and opens a mobile bookshop in a small Scottish village is a sweet, easy read. If you’re looking for angst and drama you won’t find it here. I’ll definitely look for more by this author.
This was a story about new beginnings. I enjoyed reading about a woman who completely changed her life and move to a different country. I thought the descriptions in the book were rich and being from the US I really could imagine what the scenery looked like in Scotland.
What a great book! Loved the voice the author gave to all of the characters.only gave it 4 stars because it ended like a romance novel. Not my favorite genre. Loved the main characters spunk. That she loves books as much as I was a major plus! Even with the mushy end I would recommend.
Buy this book!! You won’t regret it. EVER!
It’s like opening a package and finding another small package in it and in each is a beam of sunshine and smiles and hopes and dreams and books…oodles of books! Nina is a shy bookworm that loses her job as a librarian and ends up buying a huge van. The van is in Scotland and that’s where she ends up trying to bring her love of books to anyone and everyone. Living her life watching the people being transformed by BOOKS. And then it is her turn to live outside of her books and it is scary and at times sad for her BUT like her bookshop, she keeps trying and finds love and home and people that care for her.
I have this sign that says, “what would you do, if you could not fail”……well, Nina does just that. I read this and fell in love with the people, the tiny town and tree covered in booms and trinkets….I am all ready rereading it with a box of tissue nearby, it is not a sad book, just so darn wonderful that it can bring years. If you love books, read this.
