The extraordinary #1 New York Times bestseller that is now a major motion picture, Markus Zusak’s unforgettable story is about the ability of books to feed the soul.
It is 1939. Nazi Germany. The country is holding its breath. Death has never been busier, and will become busier still.
Liesel Meminger is a foster girl living outside of Munich, who scratches out a meager existence for herself by … existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can’t resist-books. With the help of her accordion-playing foster father, she learns to read and shares her stolen books with her neighbors during bombing raids as well as with the Jewish man hidden in her basement.
In superbly crafted writing that burns with intensity, award-winning author Markus Zusak, author of I Am the Messenger, has given us one of the most enduring stories of our time.

One of my all time favorites. Don’t read it unless you have access to hugs and tissues. Some stories you never recover from reading. The charm of the protagonist conflicts so absolutely with the tragedy of the story that you can’t look away, no matter how badly you want to.
Great fictional representation of Nazi Germany. Highly recommended.
Using death as a narrator is an ingenuous twist.
The most unique voice out there. Worth reading multiple times.
Awesome book, so full of tragedy, but also hope. Incredible story and engaging characters.
I love how he decided to write this book, from the perspective to the way of his words, it is a beautiful piece of work. 🙂
I could not put the book down until I reached the end………wow
The variety of relationships in the midst of troubling times made for a great read.

A Holocaust book read by many teen readers but also book clubs. A little different than many others.
Wow! What a sad, yet amazing book. It’s my favorite that I have read to date. The writing was so true to the time and I felt like I was there. Please read.
A breath holding read.

This book was set in Bali Germany during the 2nd World War the main character has been taken away from her mother and placed with strangers because the mom has been deemed unfit to raise a child. The strangers are kind and try their best. To cope with her situation the girl breaks into the mayors housecand essentially uses his library as s lending library. Then the Allued bombshell start falling. This book is in-put-down-able.
Well written for all readers regardless of age.
If you love words then you must read The Book Thief.
Another outstanding story of courage and strength in the face of humanity at it’s worst!
One of the very few books that I’ve read that I’ve not given away of recycled. I loved this book!
An amazing story.
This book put me through every emotion possible. I loved the characters and the way their relationships developed over time.
It was a horrible time in this world’s history and this book gave you the hope that humanity and love still existed during that time.
