I love this trilogy and have read it a few times. Every time I reach the end, I just don’t want to leave these characters behind.
This was my least favorite of the All Souls Trilogy, as it was terribly long and doled out revelations too dramatically. Or maybe I was spoiled by the historical time weaving of the previous book, and having everything take place in the present wasn’t adventurous enough for my tastes. The scifi lover in me wanted them to mix it up more!
That said, I was glad to see everything happening with Matthew and Diana, and their family, wrapped up into a semi-peaceful and hopeful package.
Now bring on the TV show! Just like with Outlander, I’m ready to see my heroes and heroines come to life up on my big screen.
Enjoyed the whole series! The Book of Life ties all the characters throughout the series in a page turning novel. Unexpected twists.
The first two books were five star…this may have been one too many. I loved the first two.
It was the perfect ending to A Discovery of Witches and Shadow of Night. I enjoyed the characters and the descriptions of the locations and times throughout the series.
It’s such a great book, the end of the All souls trilogy, a piece of work so good, that you indeed get the closure a saga like this deserves.
congratulations to Deborah, you built a world full of wonderful creatures that remind us to never reject the other for their differences to us (Unless they are a Gerbert or a Peter Knox).
You gotta love the vampire, witch & demon world.
I love the series. There were times I was frustrated with the main character but it was such a page turner I pushed that aside.
The third book in this trilogy continues to follow Diana and Matthew as they continue to look for the missing pages of the Book of Life. Diana’s pregnancy is going well, but Matthew’s brother Baldwin shows up and takes control of the family. Not much as changed since the last book, but Matthew’s son, Benjamin, has a bigger role in this book, and it’s not a good one. The Congregation is still out to get Diana and Matthew and Peter Knox and Gerbert are still a big part of that. There is a pleasant surprise reunion that warmed my heart. When the pages are found and Diana reunites them with The Book of Life, the response of the book and the resulting action are quite surprising. Overall I enjoyed the whole trilogy. The references to people from the 1590s was interesting and I liked how Matthew’s life intersected with many of them. The science aspect of the trilogy was my favorite part. The DNA testing and alchemy was to very intriguing.
loved the characters and the unusual plot line.
An epic conclusion to the All Souls Trilogy. Just absolutely adored this series. Cannot speak highly enough about it. If you looking for a fantastical paranormal sci-fi romance experience, look no further.
I’ve read these books twice and I’m sure I’ll read them again.
Good continuation of the first two books in the trilogy. Not quite as well written as the second one.
I’VE LOVED THIS SERIES!!!! MY HUSBAND, WHO ONLY READS MILITARY MYSTERIES, LOVES THIS SERIES!!
Wonderful! The final book in a fabulous trilogy.
All 3 books of this series are good.
Slow to start then I couldn’t put it down!! There is just lots of info to learn in the beginning. Keep reading;)
Didn’t want it to end.
Like I said in my review of “A Discovery of Witches” and “Shadow of Night” this has become one of my favourite trilogies. This is a great end to the trilogy and I thought it did the entire series justice and there were no loose ends dangling when I closed the book. In fact, there were other characters that I wanted to get to know more, so I would really love to see Harkness explore the lives of some of the other creatures in maybe their own novels or novellas. There were a couple times where I wondered “is this the end” only to be taken on another adventure. It still had times where it was a bit “Twilight-y”, especially with the direction the romance takes, but I still found it enjoyable, and defintely more for an adult audience in the way the romance and the lives they lead is portrayed.
LOVED this book! Series was great too!
This book was everything I’ve come to love about a Harkness novel. We get the drama surrounding Diana and Matthew, the intensity of an evil villain in their midst, questions about the origin of all the species, and finally some answers as well. There were moments so intense in this story that I simply HAD to put it down and walk away for awhile. Which, to me, is the sign of a VERY good book. I was also very happy with the way it ended up. There was closure, but still a bit of mystery surrounding what might happen next for the couple. A Discovery of Witches was selected for my Book Club to read and I’m so glad that I read it and continued with the series.
