Discover this moving story of five remarkable friends as Mary Alice Monroe, the New York Times bestselling author of The Beach House explores the power of friendship with tenderness and honesty. On the surface, it is a monthly book club. But for five women, it is so much more. For Eve Porter, whose husband’s sudden death cheats her of every security she had planned on, the club is a place of … the club is a place of sanctuary. For Annie Blake, a brilliant attorney intent on starting a family late in life, it is the chance to finally let down her guard and dream of other possibilities. For Doris Bridges, it is her support group as she acknowledges her dying marriage and finds the ultimate freedom in her husband’s betrayal. For Gabriella Rivera, the “perfect” wife, mother and friend who offers support to everyone but is afraid to ask for it herself, it is a sense of community. And for Midge Kirsch, an artist who has always lived her life against the grain, it is a haven of acceptance.
They are five women from different walks of life, embracing the challenge of change. And as they share their hopes and fears and triumphs, they will hold fast to the true magic of the book club–friendship.

Good story. Very enjoyable.
The book was very interesting. The story went from one character to another telling their problems. It was great how they all helped each other from the book club. I would recommend this book.
A good storyline but it was a little slow in places.
I belong to a book club, so was interested in book by the title!!
I loved this book it was so well written I searched out the author so I could read more of her books and I’m on my 4th book written Mary AliceMonro. They are all very good.
Very well-written, with realistic characters, enjoyabe and inspirational.
Okay just okay.
I liked the interaction of the women and all of their different personalities. A good read.
I love Mary Alice Monroe’s books. It’s obvious that she does a lot of research on her subjects. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
A great cast of characters. Developed through the book. A perfect back drop for what happened, what didn’t happen, and what you hoped would happen. Loved it.
Amazing story with realistic characters.
I enjoyed reading this book about the problems of 40-ish women. What disappointed me about it is that there were several issues left hanging when the end of the book happened. Is there a sequel?
A bit boring and unrealistic
I usually like books about groups of women in clubs, but this one was disappointing – many stories resolved too quickly, and some storylines started and never resolved or even revisited. I couldn’t figure out why these women were friends or how they became friends, and their stories should have been interesting and weren’t.
I really enjoyed spending time with the women of the book club. The characters well well drawn. The issues they were dealing with were things that everyone has either dealt with themselves or known someone that was going through something similar. It was nice to read of women who liked each other, supported each other, & stepped up when needed. I enjoyed this book very much & hated to finish it because I wasn’t ready to “close” the friendships.
