Caught up in a blood feud with Southampton’s chief of police, one-time PI Declan “Mac” MacManus must these days tread lightly. Working for minimum wage as a dishwasher, Mac is too busy making ends meet to find trouble — that is until a power-player named Frank Gannon approaches him with a job his conscience won’t let him refuse. And when that job sets him up to witness a back-road car crash — a … a crash that was clearly no accident — Mac must once again choose between taking action or letting the innocent suffer. As he follows a trail of clues, dodging enemies, old and new, Mac struggles to uncover a truth that could very well bring an end to all his troubles — and may also hold the shocking answer to a haunting question about his own tragic past.

Good book with interesting characters but there seemed to be an over-abundance of violence. Don’t really understand how a person can have a catastrophic accident with broken ribs and cuts and bruises everywhere on his body one day and the next day be beaten unmercifully to almost unconsciousness but still be able to overtake his attacker. He …
This was a very slow starter, maybe because it is the second in a series, and I did not read the first. It finally picked up about the time I was going to quit and ended with a twist and a bang.
I have a slight prejudice against stories written in the first person. Otherwise, this was a good book
Very good read. Would highly recommend
Enjoyed it and I would read more of his work!
Lots of twists and turns throughout, fast paced and interesting. Requires that you believe the main character is made out of stronger stuff than other humans because he keeps surviving situations that any normal person would die from or at least require lengthy hospital stays. Entertaining…and I did not feel I missed anything because it is the …
I really enjoyed this book!
I have a problem with half-dead people going on to beat up everybody and going into freezing water & not ending up in the hospital. Very good story line & surprise ending.
I love the heroic/unheroic characters. It’s a different kind of story but I really enjoyed.
I could never get into the protagonist
I have spent time in the Hamptons and enjoyed the references.
I read this in about 3 hours! I couldn’t put it down. I tried to put it down & go to bed but kept picking it back up until I finished it!
Unable to get interested in the characters or plot.
Maybe I would have liked it better if I had read the first in the series.
All kinds of things going on in this one. Keeps you looking for more and trying to figure it out.
Kept me awake!
Had to suspend disbelief a bit, especially on the choices the main character makes, but it was full of action and I enjoyed the site specific placement of the novel.
Not very realistic — when the hero practically dies with a knife wound, broken bones, and being torn apart, he doesn’t sit around afterwards to talk about the problem with his assailant.
This was the second book in a series but I was unaware of this when I purchased it. The book was unenjoyable because of this, referred back to previous incidents too much to be enjoyable. I finally just gave up on it. Would not recommend this book.
It was kind of corny
