Earning the nickname Lady Agony was no minor achievement for Lady Agatha Bolingbroke. It required a great deal of effort to make herself so disagreeable, but she did it for a good cause: The fewer invitations she received, the more time she had to paint. Her mother, refusing to accept an unpopular daughter—or, worse, a talented one—insists on dragging her to every event of the season. To thwart … thwart her parents and to vent her frustration, Agatha creates a wicked alter ego: a caricaturist whose mocking illustrations take ruthless aim at the ridiculousness of the ton. Her most recent target is Viscount Addleson, whom she dubs Viscount Addlewit for his handsome but empty head.
Then one of Agatha’s drawings goes too far and a villain threatens to reveal her true identity if she doesn’t comply with his demands. Now she has an impossible choice—ruin herself or an innocent young lady—and to her utter amazement the only person who can help her is Lord Addleson, whose handsome head, upon closer inspection, isn’t empty at all and whose eyes are full of mischief.
Suddenly, she finds it very difficult to be disagreeable to him.

A heroine who would rather paint than socialize, and one who draws skewers the aristocracy to boot. Good characters, Funny, Fun. I think it is my favorite in the series.
Enjoyed this story and look forward to reading the series. Such fun!
Lady Agony, story is finally told and it was very good.
a tad wordy but very enjoyable
I really enjoyed this book and loved the intrepid heroine
I really enjoyed this – a main heroine with teeth and a complex hero. I did find some of the references to previous books a bit chunky, but in truth, these make it unnecessary for you to have read them. Flows nicely at a good pace, although the climax of the book seemed actually a little rushed.
But again, this is picky, considering how much I actually enjoyed it.
I love this series
Fast, smart and extremely witty. Clearly defined characters who leaped out of the page to get my attention. Great fun!
I have enjoyed this series. This one wasn’t my favorite one, because the heroine was tough to like, but Lord Addleson was charming and I enjoyed him.
Each story is lovely and you want to read the whole series.
I generally read historical romance as fluff reading…passes the time well and easy to put down if real life calls…this book was not fluff. Whenever I forced myself to put it down, I kept thinking about it until I picked it back up. The dialogue is witty, really witty. The characters are realistic and not perfect…which makes them believable and you find yourself rooting for them. The story was not perfectly predictable which was awesome! This is the first book Ive read from this author, and now I want to go back and read them all.
After some thought, I wanted to add that this book really made me not want to put it down. Our heroine does not want to be forced into the marriage market game. She has other ideas for her future. She is opinionated and some times she jumps to the wrong conclusions. When she finds out her drawings have landed her in hot water, she needs the help of the one she was so harsh to. You really must read this book. Not only was The Bolingbroke Chit a delightful read, it has ties to The Harlow Hoyden and The Other Harlow Girl. Read them first and then go to this book. They are all stand alone but have a better impact when read as a set. I read a great amount of books. These really stand out.
A headstrong and talented young lady in regency era England does not want to give up her painting so she rejects marriages. Unfortunately, her Mother will not give up and then a blackmailer threatens to reveal her secret life as a caricaturist of the ton. The plot thickens and becomes a great ride and read. Recommend highly.
Thanks for a very entertaining story.
This was a good story like the one before it with the same supporting characters for Agatha and Jonas. Ms. Messina is a good story teller but does tend to ramble on with some distracting prattle, so that I find myself checking back to the events before the prattle because of forgetting the present happening. This makes for some difficult reading, but her stories are still worth reading. They all have good story lines or plots. Thanks Lynn!
Very well written. Great author.
I enjoyed the main female character. She was engaging and dry and smart. Unlike most women of this historical romances, the main characters had backbone and spirit but were different. Great read.
a fun read!
wonderful story. I had to look up a few words but it is a great book.
A woman ahead of her time turns her talent into mockery of the stuffy, pretentious London ton. Great, humorous, unusual story. Romantic side was great, too.
