There is an old adage about the boiling frog, which claimed that if you dropped a frog into a pot of boiling water, it would immediately jump out. But if you placed it in cool water and gradually raised the temperature to a boil, the frog would slowly cook without realizing it. True or not, the adage does describe well how we have arrived at this critical juncture, and how crucial it is that we … we jump out of the water. The ‘boiling frog’ is a metaphor for a society that has been lulled to sleep while perilous forces and corrupt leaders have endangered the world. We stand at an unprecedented crossroads in human history, where the choices and actions we take regarding climate change, income inequality, and technological innovations can either save or sink us as a species. But widespread societal ignorance and complacency have resulted in few demands for leadership accountability and action. Expanding income inequality has created a plutocracy–the 0.1%, whose entrenched self-interests stubbornly protect the status quo, despite the impending disaster it portends. We ignore this at our peril. We are in deep trouble. The time to act is NOW, and this book will tell readers WHY and HOW.

In this book the author clearly explains his standpoint and what has been happening. This might be a case of doom and gloom, but the author doesn’t simply state the facts, he goes a step further with possible ways that we can use and do to change things. The choice is ours to stay in the pot as the water gets hotter or to jump out and save our planet and our way of life.

The author has plenty of valid points in his book. Corruption is indeed present in our government, as it is present in all governments around the world. This is an issue that can only be taken care of by getting the corrupted officials out of office and this can only be done, in my opinion, by setting term limits on these offices. It can also be achieved by voting them out if they’ve not upheld their campaign promises but the general public is indeed complacent. A huge part of the public votes for the one who promises the most free stuff. Nothing is free, everything costs someone something. It may not be you that pays for it, but your neighbor may have to.
Income equality is present in our society, as it is in every other society on this planet. Income equality has always been in existence and most likely will still be here after you and I are gone. Again, we go to our political officials. They promise to do something about income equality during their campaign for office but yet, once they get in there, nothing happens. And you should note that a lot of the richest people in this country are politicians. How do they do that?
Climate change, I see the authors view and although I won’t say I disagree, I can’t say I agree with everything either. The earth has been going through warming/cooling trends in all recorded history and most likely since the beginning of time. Do we contribute to the earth’s warming? Absolutely. Yes, we do need to do something about the use of fossil fuels, however, is the next best thing really the next thing? What will the results of whatever fuel that the world switches to do to the environment 100 years from now? Those are questions that need to be considered as well. Again, we go to our political officials here. Some are like rabid dogs on climate change but what are they doing as individuals to help combat it? Nothing that I can tell except preaching about it. They condemn the common person for using a gasoline fueled car but themselves ride around in limos. Complain about what airline fuel does to the environment but charter private jets. It’s a standard case, do as I say, not as I do.
But until people really wake up and jump out of that slowly heating pot nothing will really change. Again, the author has valid talking points, unfortunately for now, that is all they are.

This author does not have all of the issues correct. The whole climate change needs to be debated not having people who disagree with this corrupt government attacked. And I expected a more nonpartisan push for losing the corruption. The author starts out by saying it is both sides but then is biased toward what he sees is important issues that are just liberal BS which is equal to right-wing BS. People are complacent but they are fooled into thinking that the government is fighting over issues like income equality. They are not! BOTH sides (all sides) are pushing toward the same thing and making backroom deals that have increased their power and taken it from the people. We have not been a capitalist society for a LONG time.
This book has the right idea but the author could not seem to stick with his “both sides of the aisle corruption”. Trump is not the best but he is no more corrupt than Obama, Clinton, Bush (1 and 2) and all of the others for the past 50 or more years. Until people stop playing the partisan game (if it is MY guy/girl I will look the other way because YOUR guy/girl is more corrupt) because when the government screws the people like both sides are doing, the people lose.
