#1 bestselling author Patricia Cornwell returns to the chilling world of gutsy medical examiner Kay Scarpetta in this suspense classic.
Little Emily Steiner left a church meeting late one afternoon and strolled toward home along a lakeside path; a week later, her nude body was discovered, bound in blaze-orange duct tape. Called by the North Carolina authorities, forensic pathologist Kay … pathologist Kay Scarpetta recognizes similarities to the gruesome work of a serial killer who has long eluded the FBI But as she tries to make sense of the evidence, she is left with questions that lead her to the Body Farm, a little known research facility in Tennessee where, with the help of some grisly experiments, she might discover the answer.
It is Scarpetta alone who can interpret the forensic hieroglyphics that eventually reveal a solution to the case as staggering as it is horrifying. But she must also endeavor to help her niece, Lucy, who is embroiled in controversy at Quantico. And Scarpetta, too, is vulnerable, as she opens herself to the first physical and emotional bond she has felt in far too long a time. Tenacious and brilliant, tender and gentle, this is Scarpetta even more realized and poignant than we’ve seen her before—in a stunning achievement from a bestselling author at the peak of her powers.

Dr. Scarpetta is a great female role model. Smart, abrasive, opinionated and knows how to say “no.” A chilling story, the first of many with this heroine as the lead. Makes me want to lock my doors and stay in bed under the covers!
My introduction into the world of criminal forensic novels
4 of 5 stars to Patricia Cornwell’s fifth book in the Kay Scarpetta series, The Body Farm, published in 1994. The title alone tells you what kind of book this will be, and it is full of thrills and suspense. Scarpetta has an opportunity to try to capture a serial killer she’s dealt with sometime in the past. And with the history she needs to …

Everything you would expect from this prolific author. Not for those who are squeamish, but that’s true of all of her novels.
Made me go to The Body Farm and meet Bill Bass
Page turner, loved one before and after; the whole series is a MUST read
Happened to read this a few years ago while stuck in Knoxville, TN, not far from the actual body farm. Was unpredictable but because of the location that I was at it sort of spooky.
One of Cornwall’s best. I much prefer these earlier works of hers to the later ones.
I really enjoyed this book. The subject matter is loosely based on a true.place. if you like twisted but tragic, this is the book for you.
Author is always dependable for great stories.
If you love a good mystery her books are some of the best
Excellent
Follow Dr. Kay Scarpetta as she finds the clues to a vicious murder wh uses the Body Farm to conceal his crimes. Scary good mystery!
I accidentally read these out of order, so I had an idea of a few things that happened during this story. The relationship between Marino and Kay really got a run for its money with this story. Marino was acting so differently, and I didn’t understand a lot of his feelings throughout the book. He’s become a really complex character. Kay cares so …
