NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Bill Bryson, bestselling author of A Short History of Nearly Everything, takes us on a head-to-toe tour of the marvel that is the human body—with a new afterword for this edition.Bill Bryson once again proves himself to be an incomparable companion as he guides us through the human body—how it functions, its remarkable ability to heal itself, and (unfortunately) the … ability to heal itself, and (unfortunately) the ways it can fail. Full of extraordinary facts (your body made a million red blood cells since you started reading this) and irresistible Brysonesque anecdotes, The Body will lead you to a deeper understanding of the miracle that is life in general and you in particular.
As Bill Bryson writes, “We pass our existence within this wobble of flesh and yet take it almost entirely for granted.” The Body will cure that indifference with generous doses of wondrous, compulsively readable facts and information. As addictive as it is comprehensive, this is Bryson at his very best, a must-read owner’s manual for every body.

Accurate and written in an entertaining manner.
One of the first I read from him. I studied biology and public health many years ago, but I still learned a lot from this up to date narrative description of what makes us tick. An easy read and entertaining at times.
So many interesting things I never knew before! The research done for this must have been incredible. I could scarcely wait for the next surprise about the human body. For me, this is a must-read.
Every person should read this book. It’s a book that needs to be read more than once. In learning more about their body, “occupants” will more fully appreciate and respect it. It’s truly amazing!
Everything Bryson has written is brilliant and “The Body” is no exception. You will come away with awe at what an amazing vehicle for life our bodies are. As the author points out, when considering the abuse we heap on our bodies it is truly remarkable that most of us live as long as we do.
I loved it .As you read it just think it’s all about you, because it is
Absolutely fascinating.
Very informative but not as funny as other Bryson books. Maybe it’s the subject matter
As I am learning about the immune system and human plagues from Bill Bryson’s book, the world is struck by COVID-19. Uncanny timing. I keep quoting this book to everyone. Thank goodness for this rational, scientific (completely unrelated and therefore not politically motivated) view to contrast with the media hype about our current contagious virus.
Anything by Bryson is worth reading at least once and some I’ve read several times.
Highly enjoyable, easy to understand manual that explains how the body works. If you want to learn about how your body works without having to look up every other word in a textbook, this book is for you.
I’ve read many Bill Bryson books and liked most of them. This is a very interesting read about human anatomy and more. The last two chapters, one of aging, one on death were a bit disturbing but good. His humor remains.
Learn a little about everything related to the body.
So informative with classic Bryson charm. Makes me want to reread A Short History of Nearly Everything.
It became tedious.
A normal Bryson book where he takes a complex subject, gives details, but makes it funny and informative.
“THE BODY” by Bill Bryson.
Did you ever think you ever needed an owner’s manual for our complex body? I think this was a brilliant idea!! We live in this body that we are so intimate with and yet could hardly speak of what goes on inside or tell us the functions of the organs we have, nor even name them, Bryson took a Biology Book, that is the last thing I ever want, and turned it to an amazing book that I cannot keep my hands away from. Converting a daunting and boring science book into an understandable and entertaining book for EVERYONE is like wizardry. His writing is brilliant and truly enjoyable. Bryson kept me intrigued and in awe for the facts and information he magically sprinkled throughout the pages. Additionally, the anecdotes within the chapters made for a really fun read for me.
This book had accurate and important information that I did not even learn in my pre-med courses in college. I feel like I can win a trivia contest or even join Jeopardy after reading this book. Bryson wrote a phenomenal book full of amazing information without feeling like I am stuffing my head with information, but for some reason I am retaining these facts and enjoy talking about them to everyone I meet. I have recommended this book to many people already and will continue to do so. What an awesome gift for anyone that can appreciate a great read and feel so much smarter after reading this. Amazing job!
I received this ebook for free without solicitation for my honest and objective opinion/review.
