bestselling authors James Rollins and Rebecca Cantrell combine their talents in a gothic tale about an ancient order and the hunt for a miraculous book known only as… The Blood Gospel.
An earthquake in Masada, Israel, kills hundreds and reveals a tomb buried in the heart of the mountain. A trio of investigators — Sergeant Jordan Stone, a military forensic expert; Father Rhun Korza, a Vatican … expert; Father Rhun Korza, a Vatican priest; and Dr. Erin Granger, a brilliant but disillusioned archaeologist — are sent to explore the macabre discovery, a subterranean temple holding the crucified body of a mummified girl.
But a brutal attack at the site sets the three on the run, thrusting them into a race to recover what was once preserved in the tomb’s sarcophagus: a book rumored to have been written by Christ’s own hand, a tome that is said to hold the secrets to His divinity. The enemy who hounds them is like no other, a force of ancient evil directed by a leader of impossible ambitions and incalculable cunning.
From crumbling tombs to splendorous churches, Erin and her two companions must confront a past that traces back thousands of years, to a time when ungodly beasts hunted the dark spaces of the world, to a moment in history when Christ made a miraculous offer, a pact of salvation for those who were damned for eternity.
Here is a novel that is explosive in its revelation of a secret history. Why do Catholic priests wear pectoral crosses? Why are they sworn to celibacy? Why do the monks hide their countenances under hoods? And why does Catholicism insist that the consecration of wine during Mass results in its transformation to Christ’s own blood? The answers to all go back to a secret sect within the Vatican, one whispered as rumor but whose very existence was painted for all to see by Rembrandt himself, a shadowy order known simply as the Sanguines.
In the end, be warned: some books should never be found, never opened — until now.

I had read all of his Sigma books and this one was given to me by a friend and I decided to open it yesterday…. huge mistake!! Was glued to the pages for 5 hours til I finished it and did nothing of what i was supposed to do, hahaha. Now, to buy the others!! Loved it
If you can completely ignore any knowledge that you have about Christianity and the Bible, you will probably be swept up in the intrigue, subterfuge, and evil. The characters are fun, fairly stereotypical with the usual undercurrents of sexual attraction. I decided, though, that I couldn’t swallow anymore of the ridiculous religious …
I read this book a couple years ago, but heard Alex Kava speak at a conference and she said Rollins was her favorite author. I reread this book, and she’s not wrong. He’s a strong writer.
Excelente leitura.
Adorei a trama e os personagens.
A continuar sem duvida a serie.
I have been a big Rollins fan for many years but this collaboration has produced a really well developed story that is both scary and believable. This was the first in this series and I have already purchased the next two in the series. A great read!!
The book was good but different from Rollin’s general books. New characters that were interesting and story line kept you interested. I can see we’re you may pick up the next book in the series.
Entirely different take on the traditional vampire genre.
Would give it a 3.5 if I could. It was entertaining but not memorable. A lot of the dialogue was superficial. Would make a slightly above-average TV movie.
Not as great as the ones he wrote alone but any James Rollins is worth reading.
Don’t let the concept of this series keep you from reading it. This as an awesome and very original series. Their choice of the first vampire was very different and really cool. You really care about the 3 main characters and at times you are not certain of their fate. A real page turner, lots of action, some interesting secondary characters, and …
The Blood Gospel trilogy was thoroughly entertaining. I am sorry that the series ended at three books. Very good.
This book was really great! I rarely give 5 star ratings, but it deserves it. I loved the characters, the storytelling, and the twists and turns. It’s definitely a must read.
I love all the James Rollins books! He’s a wonderful storyteller.
I’ve always enjoyed Rollins’ work and was thrilled to find The Blood Gospel series. I consumed this book in a day…didn’t want to put it down. It grabs the reader in the first few pages and doesn’t let go, even when finished. It’s onto books #2 and 3 in the series. A fantastic read for anyone who enjoys this genre!
Great series
James Rollins’s best work.
This is part of a trilogy and I’ve read all three of them. These are a must read!
LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS BOOK! The story is so original and amazingly written I actually came out of it believing it was possible!
All of James Rollins books are excellent and informative. One of the things I appreciate Rollins does is tell you at the end what is true and references. Some of the truths are frightening and others historical. Great characters.
Loved he characters. Definitely a book to read again!
