The Blogger and the Hunk by Jane Matisse. This is my second novel by this author.
Penelope Luciano is a book blogger who would rather curl up with a book. Then one night she goes out with friends where she meets Jack Goodman.
After a night a passion, Penelope sneaks out both thinking they will never see eachother again but circumstances and fate have other plans. They are thrown together again. Could pride and uncertain ruin things between them before it has time to blossom?
This was such a cute book. I enjoyed the characters and the plot and I loved the relationship between Penelope and Jack. What was meant to be one thing turned out to be much more.
For someone looking for a quick romantic funny read, I recommend this novel.
Fantastic story!! Penny loves her job, her parents, her sister, her 2 best friends, and her books. Happy in her own company, the last thing she’s anticipating is her unwanted feelings for Jack. In a perfect world, her one night stand would have been just that, however fate doesn’t always cooperate with what we want or plan. I can say it’s not often I don’t automatically like the male counterpart of a romance novel, but Jack took some time warming up to. Penny comes off as a quiet, inexperienced introvert. Jack a loud, opinionated player. They make an unlikely couple, and right off, I felt like Penny was better suited to someone with similar interests as herself. By the end, my opinion changed. I found this to be a quick read, with several twists keeping you hooked and anticipating what’s to come next. 5 stars and looking forward to reading more by this author!
This was a difficult book for me to review. I absolutely adored Jane Matisse’s Belleza and the Brute, so I jumped right into this novel from her once I finished that one in hopes that I would love that one just as much. I am sad to say that I did not. It was NOT a bad book. Not by any means, but it was not my cup of tea, so to speak. I would have liked to see more of a developed plot and storyline that stretched beyond the atypical rom-com. This one ticks the necessary boxes but isn’t just that home run I was hoping for. With that said, I do believe this was Jane Matisse’s first book that was widely published and I can tell that she grew as a writer from this one to the one I mentioned above. I am positive that there are going to be more amazing books from Matisse in the near future that I won’t be able to put down. This just wasn’t that one. At a little over 200 pages, it could have been shorter even and still told the story well. I struggled to read it in one sitting and found myself stretching it over the course of a few days with a book or two in-between.
In The Blogger and the Hunk, we get just that. A love story built around a blogger, Penelope and her friend and hottie, Jack. Penelope is a socially awkward person in real life, but on social media she is able to be her true self. Jack is your typical ‘hunk’ material. He can work his magic over on the ladies with a blink of his handsome eye. The two have a one-night stand…. Or so they thought. This leads to some pretty entertaining scenes that give it the much needed comedic relief. Once, I stuck through it until the end and had finished this novel, I found myself a fan of the two much more so than I was originally. Not a terrible book, still a solid four star read. I can’t wait to get my hands on some more of Jane Matisse’s work!
The Blogger and the Hunk is a standalone novel from author Jane Matisse. This is my second read from this author and I’m so glad that I got the chance to read this. This author has already shown how great her writing is, her incredible characters and brilliant plot lines are and this is only my second read from her. I can’t wait to see what else this author brings I’m excited to find out.
This book was compelling, intriguing and I really enjoyed this read I couldn’t put it down.
This book was romantic, steamy, sweet, entertaining and funny, and it brought two brilliant opposite characters together and created an epic couple.
The chemistry that these two characters had was undeniable – I’m surprised that they only caved twice at being together. But even when they weren’t they had a brilliant connection, and made a great team working alongside each other even after the shocking circumstances that they met again.
I loved that Penelope(Penny) wasn’t your normal all confident women and that she had flaws that many women have. But I can’t believe how little faith she had in Jack sometimes. But I think at the end of the day – these two were made for each other as they both bring out the best things in each other, compliment each other and ultimately push each other to be better. I was shocked at how quickly Jack changed his ways but it just shows how much of an impact a good women can make someone want to change. I loved Jack throughout this read even when he was making silly mistakes.
These two except each other for how they are and love each other just as much, my only disappointment was that we didn’t get enough of them after what happened at the end of the book. I’d love to know where they are now and how far they have come.
We cannot forget to mention the secondary characters that come into this read. They just help make this read even better, they bring our main characters together and compliment them as a whole. I would love to see if anything blossoms between Nick & Amanda after the events at the end of this book.
But overall I’m glad that they both got their HEA.
I hope this isn’t the last we see of Jack & Penny – but if it is I’m glad I got to experience and enjoy their story. It’s one not to be missed!
The Blogger and the Hunk By Jane Matisse. This is my second book by this author and I’m definitely excited to see what else comes from here. This was such a fun read. I’m a sucker for a nerdy girl gets the handsome guy kind of books. Penelope’s character remains me so much of myself it was hard to remember I was reading a story, I just loved her. Jack while at times I wanted to smack was just as great. The characters meshed so well you just sink into their story and forget what time it is. This story was both lightheartedly funny and a bit steamy. It’s well written and paced nicely never feeling rushed or dragging on. If you’re looking for a nice light rom-com for a quick read I highly recommend reading this book. I’m giving this book a five star review and am excited to see where the author takes readers next.
I have to say, this is one of those books that you read in one sitting. I could not put it down! I absolutely love Penelope aka Penny. Penny is a woman who immerses herself in her career and blogging. When it is finally suggested that she go out and have a little fun, Penny learns what it means to live life outside of the books she reads. While out Penny meets Jack.. the epitome of a Player. Penny is the complete opposite of the women he usually goes for….. Let the fun begin.
The Blogger and The Hunk is an ‘opposites attract’ romantic comedy by Jane Matisse which I thoroughly enjoyed.
I could totally connect with Penelope, the heroine of this book. Penelope is introverted, would much rather stay at home with a good book than go out. She’s only 5ft 1in and carrying a few extra pounds. Honestly, this could be my life story. Until Penelope finally allows her friends to drag her on a night out and she has, what she thought, was a 1 night stand with the very HOT Jack who she’d never meet again.
Only Jack turns out to be best friends with Penelope’s sister and is going to be her maid of honour at her upcoming wedding, meaning Jack and Penelope have to spend lots of time together.
I loved this story being told from dual POV. We could see Penelope fall for Jack but assume that he’d never be attracted to her as she’s ‘the fat girl’ and also we could see Jack’s struggle to realise that although Penelope was nothing like the girls he normally went for, he was actually falling for her. I loved that our heroine was not the usual tall, slim, blonde beauty that appears in most romance novels.
This was my first time reading a novel by this author and I’d definitely read more.
The Blogger and the Hunk by Jane Matisse a five-star read you will want to snuggle with. What a great debut novel, I really hope that this author keeps up the writing as I need more of her style in my life. This story may be similar to some others out there, but the author has taken a new spin and breathes life into the story, she makes it her own with blog posts at the start of each chapter and they all have great little quirks to them that make the story that much funnier. Penelope was a great character and I adored her behaviours she was a little crazy and quirky she was so prim and proper, and you couldn’t imagine her misbehaving then she goes wild and ends up stealing clothes, all of the little details made for such a great story that I just couldn’t put it down. Thank you Jae Matisse you have a great talent for writing and now you need to get back to the keys.
The Blogger and the Hunk was such an adorable read. Its been forever since Ive read an opposites attract kind of story.
I loved Penelope. She’s a blogger, book lover, and hermit. She doesn’t necessarily like going out to socialize. She just likes being wrapped up in her own world. Jake is charming and everything that Penelope isn’t and maybe thats why it worked so well for them.
I loved the characters and the sprinkling of drama that came about through out the book. I absolutely loved the blog posts in the beginning of each chapter. This is definitely a cute weekend read!

This is the second book that I have read by this author and again it was an enjoyable read. It was a little different but equally as well written. I liked the engaging writing style that the author chose to use, the blog entries at the beginning of each chapter were fun to read. The pace and flow of the story was also good.
I don’t think I connected with the characters as much as I thought I was going too – I did like Penny though, I thought that she was down to earth and a genuine person. It took me a little to warm to Jack but I still liked him. There were some funny moments in the book between Penny and Jack which made me laugh.
Overall a well written story, characters who I liked although didn’t really connect with and a really engaging writing style. I look forward to reading more from Ms Matisse again in the future.
The Blogger and The Hunk, written by Jane Matisse, is a fun, romantic, exciting read that I was able to read in one sitting! The Blogger, Penelope, the wall flower who would rather read a book meets the hunk, Jack, a womanizer who loves the chase when she decided to go out with her friends for a night of fun. Quickly things change when one kiss turns into a night of passion. The next morning, Penelope leaves knowing that she will never see Jack again. They keep being thrown together, and Jack is truly able to see all the beauty that she carries inside and out. Sometimes self-doubt gets in the way, these two need to find the drive to chase what they both want.
This was the author’s first book, and I have to say I loved it! She gave is an easy read with characters that you can fall in love with. I can’t wait to read more from this author, I give this book 4 stars!
The Blogger and the Hunk by Jane Matisse is a standalone contemporary romance told in different POV’s of our main characters. The story is interesting and flowed easily and is well written. Whilst I enjoyed the story I was a little disheartened with the overall thoughts on what a woman should look like as expressed by our male characters. I really wanted to shake and wake them to the real world. I also felt that the sister was a bit self absorbed and had no clue what was happening around her. But what I loved was that our main character finally finally found their self worth. In the end it all came together and is a sweet romance story.
5 Star
The Blogger and the Hunk by Jane Matisse is romantic comedy that I had a hard time putting down once I started reading. This is my first book by this author but it certainly won’t be my last. Penelope is a work from home blogger and editor and she’s a bit shy. Jack is as they say “the life of the party” and as I say sexy as Hell and he knows it. These two meet at a local club and head back to his place.what they thought would be a one night stand is out once they find their both going to be in the same wedding. I could go on and on but I won’t. I do however recommend this book. I can’t wait to read more from this author.
An addictive contemporary romance, The Blogger and The Hunk has everything you could want in a sweet, sexy read. I’m a real sucker for those ‘innocent girl-player guy’ types of read so I immediately fell for this one. I was excited to get started and before I knew it I was over halfway through. Needless to say, this was the perfect Sunday afternoon read that I am excited to recommend to my friends.
Penny is a book lover so, naturally, I decided that I loved her almost straight away. She appears to have her dream life, but we all know that can have its problems. While part of me wants her life, I also really connected with her doubts about herself. Every girl has things they don’t’ like about themselves, and I totally get Penny’s self-doubt. I was willing her to realise how wonderful she is throughout the book and became her number one fan. But what did I love even more than Penny? Penny’s relationship with Jack! He is a dream. He is a little cocky, but not arrogant, and I have to admit I like this a little. But he isn’t your stereotypical player and this is what makes me like him so much. You can see he truly cares about Penny from their very first meeting and this is important and what makes this story so good.
So, I’m not normally into the whole ‘mistaken identity’ type reads, but with this book I totally got on bored. I loved how the storylines panned out and I think the author timed it perfectly; she didn’t drag things on for too long! There were moments that had me laughing out loud but there were also serious scenes where I found myself reflecting on things myself. This book really does have it all!
Overall, I loved everything about this book. I loved Penny and Jack, the supporting characters and the plot. I devoured it in one afternoon and have been left wanting more of the author’s work. I will definitely be recommending this to others and encourage you to read it, too!
The Blogger and the Hunk is part comedy, part drama and all love story. It can be read as a standalone story.
I usually prefer a darker romance kind of book, but I decided to take a jaunt down comedy lane. What I came to realize early on in the book is that I could be the main character. Penelope (Penny) is an introvert who loves books and staying at home. You almost have to move heaven and earth to get her to go out. I can so relate! Also, she’s not your typical bombshell feminine lead character, and I can REALLY relate to that! Prefers comfy clothes over the latest fashion trend. Check. Doesn’t fuss too much with hair and makeup. Check. Works for herself. Check. Issues with self-esteem. Check. Very relatable.
One-night Penelope’s friends talk her into going out with them and she runs into an unexpected new adventure. After talking with a guy that she can’t believe is even speaking to her, Penny decides to throw away her virgin card for a one-night stand. Maybe it will keep her friends and her sister from hounding her so much. Besides, she figures she’ll never see him again. But, because fate loves a good cosmic joke, Penny and her one-night stand are brought together again in the most unlikely way.
An introverted, inexperienced blogger and a womanizing man…what could go wrong?
The Blogger and the Hunk- Jane Matisse
5-stars
The Blogger and the Hunk by Jane Matisse is a must-read romance! It’s my second book by this author and I loved it from start to finish. It’s sweet, funny, relatable, steamy and dramatic, everything I look forward to in a romance read. I really connected and related to Penny, her character felt so real and I felt so invested in her story and I loved how her story all played out!
Jane has an incredible writing style, it’s full of detail and the storyline flowed so well that it easily kept me intrigued and captivated the whole way through. It was a shorter read as I couldn’t bring myself to put it down. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future and I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone looking for their next romance read!
The Blogger and The Hunk by Jane Matisse
Five Stars
Ok this book was funny but I’m not sure if it was meant to be. I felt really bad for Penny because so many people judged her by her sister. She wasn’t outgoing or overly beautiful but she was realistic about it. She was more comfortable being unnoticed and she shouldn’t be put down for it. Jack was a low key jerk. The way he described her was a little rude. Overall a great read. The author kept my attention.
This page turner did not disappoint. I picked it up and couldn’t put it down until I had finished it. The author did a wonderful job developing the main characters and plot. I became emotionally invested in the characters. This book is definitely on my “to be read again” list. Loved it.
The Blogger and the Hunk is my first book by Jane Matisse. This was a super cute story, it was the blurb that had me wanting to read this book. The writing was easy to read and had a great plot. I enjoyed how Penelope and Jack tried to stay away but something always pulled them together. But I am sad to say that I didn’t really connect with Penelope and Jack. Other than that, this was a fun romantic comedy and I’m looking forward to reading more books by this author.

Rated 5 stars!
Wow! I seriously loved this book! I started it in the evening and finished up in the morning. I struggled putting it down as you can see. All of the characters were a-maz-ing! I totally understood Penelope’s plight. She is clumsy and always been a wallflower. I can understand her body issues. They were ingrained from an impressionable age and those are hard to get rid of. Jack preferred woman (leggy, blond, bubbly and stick thin) which wasn’t her but also contributed to her issues. This was not an issue for me while reading. I loved the characters and their interactions with each other. They made me laugh and say “Oh No don’t do/say that!” Or “You didn’t!”
Penelope is a inspiring girl. Yes she has issues, who doesn’t? But she enjoys her life and herself! She might by a possible hermit but what’s beneath her….is a jaw dropping girl.
Jack is a womanizing jerk! Ok that’s my first impression and a couple other times as well. I understood later that he was confused. And after a bit I forgave him for being that jerk. I was glad we were able to see his thought process it helped me understand him better.
Their friends (all six of them) were so welcome as part of the story. Each had a specific part to play and they fulfilled it perfectly. Their antics made me laugh, smirk and just smile!
This is my second book by this author and I enjoyed this one so much more! She hit everything spot on. The story was different (to an extent) and moved along at a nice pace. The characters had some growth spurts and she did a wonderful job with them. I will be putting this on my Re-read list.
I highly recommend this if you like characters who are a little deeper and not perfect. Or if you enjoy fun times and close encounters.
