Russian-American detective A. A. Valnikov is a burned-out homicide detective who gets teamed with Natalie Zimmerman, twice-divorced with a grudge against men. These unlikely partners are assigned the strange case of a stolen show dog being held for ransom. In this bittersweet tale that the Los Angeles Times called “terrifying and romantic,” the partners will find much more than they ever could … ever could have imagined. Cosmopolitan called it “fast, colorful and gripping . . . as touching as it is breathlessly entertaining.”

Good read
No one writes about the lives of cops on the street like the great Joe Wambaugh. Have been reading his books for over 45 years. Some books are great (The Onion Field), some are good (Black Marble) But they are always worth your time
Had trouble getting started but it ended up being entertaining.
Wambaugh is always a good read. he is a little twisted, but I enjoy that.
Typical Wambaugh, which is a pretty good story.
This book is a classic. Joseph W. is gritty, funny and an acquired taste. I read it a long time ago but I still enjoy it. It’s the LAPD of the old days. Nothing PC above is: mysoginistic, hard drinking.
When I started reading my reaction was: Gross! Then I remembered who wrote it and forged on. Glad I did and began to really root for the main character. Well and graphically written and draws you in….obviously or I would have stopped after yelling: GROSS!
Very difficult to understand the story line. Did not finish.
Long winded introduction of characters, stereotypical female officer, basically horrible, which was surprising to me. I expected much more from this author.
Not his best book, but still a great book.
great book
The usual graphic/gross dialogue that will give you many chuckles.
Not the best Wambaugh
Have a lot of Wambaughs work and found this one very entertaining, also enjoyed the movie version. Mr Wambaugh is one the best at police procedural’ s.
Not up to Patterson standards. Never got me. Quit after 45 pages.
Great fast-paced story.
